초등영어 과정중심 평가모형 개발 및 적용 (Developing Procedure-based Assessment Model of English and its Application to Elementary School Students’ Learning of Listening and Speaking)

초록

본 연구는 초등학교 5학년 영어학습자를 대상으로과정중심 영어 듣기·말하기평가모형을 개발하여 적용한후, 그 효과성을 확인하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 과정중심 평가에 관련된 연구들을 분석하여 과정중심 평가모형의 개발과 활용을 위한 시사점을 추출한 후, 이를 토대로 과정중심 듣기·말하기 평가모형과 평가모형 적용과제를 개발하였다. 과정중심 듣기·말하기 평가모형은‘해석단계’, ‘상호 이해확인 단계’, ‘창의적 언어표현단계’로 구성된다. ‘해석단계’는 듣기를 통해 주요내용을파악하고 주요표현들을 파악하는 단계이다. ‘상호 이해확인 단계’는 짝과 역할놀이를 하면서 들은 내용을 확인하는 단계이다. ‘창의적 언어표현단계’는 듣기 주제를 토대로 자유롭게 영어로 묻고 답하는 단계이다. 학습자는 이 단계를 순서대로 밟으면서 듣기와 말하기의사소통 과제를 수행하였다. 과정중심 평가모형의 효과를 확인하기 위해 학생들을 대상으로, 사전-사후 정의적 검사와 사전-사후영어 말하기 평가를 실시․비교하였다. 평가모형의 적용을 받기 전과 적용수업을 받은후의 정의적 영향을 비교한 결과, 학생들의 영어에 대한 흥미와 자신감, 자기주도성 등이 유의미하게 향상되었다. 사전-사후 영어 말하기 평가에서도 유의미하게점수가 향상되어, 과정중심평가모형이 학생들의 영어듣기·말하기 능력을 향상시키고 정의적 영역에 긍정적인 영향을 주었음을 알 수 있다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study was to develop a procedure-based assessment model to foster Korean Elementary school students’ English listening and speaking competence. For this purpose, studies on classroom-based assessment, teaching methodologies of English listening and speaking, and students’ interactional patterns in group work were reviewed. Several principles have been elicited from these studies and these principles have been applied to develop a procedure-based assessment model. This procedure-based assessment model consists of three stages (interpretive stage, interpersonal stage, and creative language production stage).
While following these three stages of the procedure-based model, students performed authentic communicative tasks assessing themselves and their partners’ performance simultaneously. In the interpretational stage, students listen to authentic monologues or dialogues finding essential information of those listening texts. In the interpersonal stage, students created a dialogue and talked in pairs based on the previous listening assessing each other’s listening comprehension. In the presentational stage, students talked in pairs or groups over the topic of the listening text. The teacher observed and evaluated the students’ performing the tasks while providing proper linguistic and affective feedback to the students. The post affective domain test showed that students’ interests in English, self-confidence, anticipation, and autonomy have been enhanced significantly compared to the pretest results. The procedure-based assessment model also affected students’ English speaking production. The scores in the post speaking test showed a significant increase in three domains of speaking competence (range & fluency, pronunciation, co-construction) compared to the pre-speaking test scores. It is believed that this research provides an adequate model of procedure-based assessment which measures elementary school students’ listening and speaking competence and improves students’ self-confidence, anticipation of learning, and autonomy.
