고등학교 교양교육의 문제점과 활성화 방안 (Problems and Vitalizing of High School Liberal Arts Education)

초록

이 연구의 목적은 고등학교 교양교육의 문제점을 역사적 맥락에서 그 원인을 찾고 나아가 교양교육 활성화를 위한 탐색적 접근을 도모하고자 하였다. 연구 방법으로는 문헌연구법 중심으로, 주로 문서화된 국가 교육과정의 내용 분석과 실제 사례 중심의 연구 고찰을 통하여 합당한 논의의 전개를 도모하였다. 지금과 같은 고등학교 교양과정 체계로는 효과적으로 교양교육을 달성하기가 어려워 보인다. 첫 번째 이유는 현행 교양과정은 교양을 기를 수 없는 구조적인 모순을 가지고 있다. 이 논리적 모순은 애당초 교양 교육과정을 만들 때 과목 중심으로 교육과정을 만들었기 때문에 발생하였다. 고등학교에서 교양과목이 왜 필요한지에 대한 성찰이나 교육목표 또는 교육내용의 제시가 없이 일단 과목이 먼저 지정되어 버렸다. 현행 교양과정을 개선하는 방법의 하나는 고등학생의 교양 형성에 필요한 내용만을 모아서 일명 ‘교양학’이라는 새로운 교과 개발이다. 장기적으로 사범대학에서 교양학과를 설치해서 고등학교 교양을 전문적으로 가르칠 교사를 양성하는 것이 좋겠지만, 우선은 기존 교사의 연수와 재배치를 통해서도 충분히 운영 가능하다고 본다.

The purpose of this study is to find the cause of the problems of high school liberal arts education historically and further promote an exploratory approach to vitalizing liberal arts education. In the 2022 revised curriculum, the need for high school liberal arts education is greater. This is because strengthening self-direction in preparation for an uncertain future is the core direction of the 2022 revised curriculum, and the importance of liberal arts education is increasing in uncertain times. However, it seems difficult to effectively achieve liberal arts education with the current high school liberal arts curriculum system. The first reason is that the current liberal arts course has a structural contradiction in which liberal arts cannot be cultivated. This logical contradiction occurred because when the liberal arts curriculum was created in the first place, the curriculum was made based on subjects. Without reflection on why liberal arts subjects are necessary in high school, or presentation of educational goals or educational content, subjects were designated first. I think this is a key problem that liberal arts education is not properly conducted in high schools today. Even now, the high school liberal arts course must operate normally. The starting point is educational personnel's conviction and social consensus on 'Do high school students really need liberal arts?' If we really think it is necessary, the current liberal arts course can be changed. The method requires the development of a new subject called 'liberal arts' by gathering only the contents really necessary for the formation of high school students' liberal arts. It is only natural that such 'culture studies' should reflect the goals of liberal arts education as a top priority and make them systematic and in-depth by expert hands. In the long run, it would be good to establish a liberal arts department at the College of Education to cultivate teachers who will professionally teach high school liberal arts, but first of all, it will be sufficiently operable through the training and relocation of existing teachers.
