  • [iBT TOEFL & IELTS] Writing Part 27-30 (TOEFL) 또는 Band 7-9 (IELTS)를 목표로 하시는 분들을 위한 자료
Topic 1: In some countries, people who are unemployed receive a sum of money each week in the form of a benefit. While some support this, other people believe that this money should not be given. Discuss both points of view and give you own point of view. Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience. Write at least 250 words. The payment of a benefit for those who are out of work is a sensitive issue with strong opinions for and against. This essay will now examine both sides of the argument and present a final conclusion.<중 략>On the other hand, there is an argument that the risk of a penalty would dissuade people from starting courses that they were not particularly motivated to complete in the first place. In conclusion, therefore, although the idea of being charged for non-completion of a course would perhaps reduce the number of uncommitted enrolments, it is not an advisable solution for genuine students. Topic 9: Computers have changed the way people study. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using computers as study aids?Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.Write at least 250 words.

Topic 1:Smoking can cause serious illnesses and should be made illegal. To what extent do you agree?Write at least 250 words. There are clear arguments for banning smoking, based largely on health, but there is perhaps a stronger case to be made for maintaining the current situation, as will now be explained. The most important factor for keeping smoking legal is that the decision to smoke is not something that should be controlled by the government, but by the individual. ?例If a person decides to smoke, they do so of their own free will and this should be respected, as it is the government’s role to advise against harmful practices, but ultimately not to make decision for its citizens.<중 략>Compared to previous generations, an increasing number of people are traveling overseas for holidays. Why is this? Is this a positive or negative trend? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience. Write at least 250 words. There are a number of factors which explain the rising tendency for people to take trips overseas for pleasure, and this has both advantages and disadvantages as will now be discussed. Innovations in technology have made overseas travel not only faster, but also more accessible for those on a limited budget, meaning that in some cases a family can holiday in a different country with less inconvenience and a better price than staying in their home country. A flight from the UK to Spain, for example

  • [언어학] 어용론(pragmatics) 및 문화적 관습 (cultural convention) 에 관한 Literature Review
Literature Review: Production of accurate translation in accordance with cultural convention and pragmaticsIn translation tasks, considering cultural convention and pragmatics is a must for all translators to produce accurate translations in order to deliver original messages from source text to text. Translation can be defined as the communication of the Hyperlink "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meaning_(linguistic)" o "Meaning (linguistic)" meaning of a Hyperlink "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Source_language" o "Source language" source-language text by means of an Hyperlink "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_and_formal_equivalence" o "Dynamic and formal equivalence" equivalent Hyperlink "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Target_language" o "Target language" target-language text. In other words, despite heterogeneity between source and target language structures, with the aim of producing accurate and exact translations, translators must strive to deliver the original meanings of souranslating: Formal Equivalence (F-E) and Dynamic Equivalence (D-E). From one perspective, the principles of F-E would be reproduction of grammatical units, consistency in word usage and meanings in terms of the source context. From another perspective, the rules of D-E would be Hyperlink "http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/conformity" o "wikt:conformity" conformance of a translation to the receptor Hyperlink "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Language" o "Language" language and Hyperlink "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Culture" o "Culture" culture as a whole translation with context of the message which contains stylistic selection and order of message.First, in the case of producing a translation, pragmatics is an essential to decipher and interpret the original meanings of source text due to the fact that translating is not a process of making literal translation on the basis of the grammatical and syntactic structures of source text but a process of producing a precise translation based on throm the encoded concept.Second, pragmatics involves lexical narrowing, which bears more specific meanings of words than the hidden meanings. With more restricted denotation, it may occur in different levels and in different orientations (Wilson & Carston, 2007, p. 5). For example, there is a sentence: “I am not drinking tonight.” In this example, even though the meaning of the verb “drink” is to take liquid into one’s mouth and swallow it, it can be considered as the act of drinking a large amount of alcohol, or as the willingness to stop drinking alcohol tonight, depending on the context (Wilson & Carston, 2007, p. 6). Therefore, without lexical narrowing in accordance with the context of source text, the process of translating source text into target text cannot be undergone.Third, translators are required to implement the cultural convention or cognitive approach to transfer the original meaning of text to target language readers. This approach does not highlight the meaning in lang demand for translation has risen sharply, and the growing need of transferring many languages to receptors’ languages has naturally arisen in accordance with their cultural backgrounds. That is, the process of translation is that of incorporating foreign cultures into receptors’ cultures. With the influx of a Western lifestyle into Russia, translations were made from heterogeneous language systems, including foreign languages and cultural conventions, into Russian language systems (Tyulenev, 2009, p. 13). Eventually, foreign cultural convention has gradually been assimilated into the Russian cultural system of values and vice versa (Tyulenev, 2009, p. 13). If translations had not been successful to deliver foreign cultural convention to Russian convention, the rapid assimilation of different cultures could not occur. In other words, translations can be defined as a mediator between different cultures and countries, depending on whether they carry cultural convention.Fifth, in spoken lt that they are critical to convey the subtle and implied message of original language to target language speaker.ReferencesCroitoru, E.
