핵심감사제 도입효과에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Effect of Key Audit Matters)

초록

[연구목적] 본 연구는 핵심감사제의 도입이 자본시장에서 기업의 정보가치와 외부감사의 투명성 향상에 기여하는지를 확인하고자 한다.
[연구방법] 이를 위하여 본 연구는 핵심감사제가 처음으로 시행된 2018년 국내에 상장된 기업을 대상으로 핵심감사사항의 보고여부에 따라 감사시간, 이익의 질, 정보비대칭에 차이가 존재하는지를 살펴본다. 추가적으로 핵심감사제의 도입효과가 기업지배구조 및 감사인의 특성에 따라 차별적으로 나타나는지를 분석한다.
[연구결과] 분석결과에 따르면 감사시간은 핵심감사사항 보고와 기업지배구조의 특성에 영향을 받지 않았다. 반면에 감사인의 규모가 클수록 핵심감사사항을 보고한 기업의 감사시간은 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 이익의 질은 핵심감사사항을 보고한 기업에서 크게 향상된 것으로 나타났다. 이와 더불어 감사인의 규모가 클수록 핵심감사사항을 보고한 기업에서 이익의 질이 크게 향상된 것을 발견하였다. 다만, 기업지배구조의 특성은 핵심감사사항을 보고한 기업의 이익의 질에 차별적인 영향을 미치지 않았다. 정보비대칭은 핵심감사사항을 보고한 기업에서 핵심감사사항을 보고하지 않은 기업보다 심화되는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 감사인의 규모가 큰 경우 핵심감사사항을 보고한 기업의 정보비대칭이 크게 감소하는 것을 확인하였다.
[연구의 시사점] 법과 제도적인 환경이 상이한 국가에서 시행되고 있는 핵심감사제를 국내에 도입하여 핵심감사제 도입효과에 대한 의구심이 존재하는 상황에서 본 연구의 결과는 국내의 핵심감사제에 대한 후속연구 및 핵심감사제의 운용·정착에 도움이 될 것으로 기대된다. 핵심감사제와 관련된 선행연구들이 주로 설문 연구로 수행되어 실증연구를 찾아보기 어려운 상황에서 본 연구는 국내에서 핵심감사제의 도입효과를 실증적으로 검증한다는 점에서 차별성을 가진다.

영어초록

[Purpose] The purpose of this study is to confirm whether the key audit Matters contributed to the corporate information value and transparency of external audits in the capital market.
[Methodology] For this study, we compared the companies that reported key audit matters with those that did not report key audit matters in 2018. In addition, it analyzes whether the effect of introducing the key audit matters system differs depending on the corporate governance structure and the characteristics of the auditor.
[Findings] According to the analysis results, the audit time was not affected by the characteristics of the key audit matters and corporate governance. On the other hand, the larger the size of the auditors, the greater the audit time of the companies reporting the key audit matters. The earnings quality showed that the companies that reported key audit matters improved significantly. In addition, it was found that the larger the size of the auditors, the greater theearnings quality of companies that reported key audit matters. However, the characteristics of corporate governance did not have a discriminatory effect on the earnings quality of companies that reported key audit matters. Information asymmetry was found to increase in companies reporting key audit matters than in companies not reporting key audit matters However, when the size of the auditor is large, it has been confirmed that the information asymmetry of the company reporting the key audit matters is greatly reduced.
[Implications] Prior studies related to key audit matters were mainly conducted as questionnaires, and this study is different from previous studies in that it empirically verifies the effectiveness of the key audit matters introduced in Korea in a situation where it is difficult to find empirical studies. The result of this study is the follow-up study on the key audit matters in the context of the question of whether the positive effects of the key audit matters will exist by introducing the key audit matters implemented in countries with different legal and institutional environments in Korea. It is expected to be helpful to operate and settle the audit system.
