쓰기장애 위험학생과 일반학생의 쓰기 하위영역별 읽기 변인과의 관련성 비교 (Writing-Reading Relationship of Elementary Students at Risk for Writing Disabilities)

초록

본 연구의 목적은 초등학교 쓰기장애 위험학생과 일반학생의 쓰기 하위영역별 읽기 변인과의 관련성에 대해 살펴보고자 하는 것이다. 이를 위해 쓰기장애 위험학생과 일반학생을 각 학년수준별로 나누어 그 차이를 검증하였다. 이를 통해 얻은 연구결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 초등학교 저학년 쓰기장애 위험학생의 경우 쓰기의 각 하위영역과 모든 읽기 관련 변인이유의미한 상관관계를 나타냈다. 또한 쓰기 유창성에는 읽기 유창성이 설명력 있는 변인으로 나타났고, 철자쓰기에는 읽기 유창성과 단어 인지가 설명력 있는 변인으로 나타났으며, 작문에는 읽기 유창성이 설명력 있는 변인으로 나타났다. 초등학교 저학년 일반학생의 경우 쓰기와 읽기가 부분적인 상관관계를 나타내고 있었다. 또한 쓰기 유창성에는 읽기 이해가, 철자쓰기에는 단어인지가 설명력 있는 변인으로 나타났다. 둘째, 초등학교 고학년 쓰기장애 위험학생의 경우 쓰기의 각 하위영역과 읽기 관련 변인이 부분적인 상관관계를 나타내고 있었다. 또한 쓰기 유창성에는 읽기 유창성이 설명력 있는 변인으로 나타났고, 철자쓰기에는 단어 인지가 설명력 있는 변인으로 나타났다. 초등학교 고학년 일반학생의 경우 작문과 읽기 이해만이 유의미한 상관관계를 나타냈다. 또한 작문에 대해 읽기 이해가 설명력 있는 변인으로나타났다.
본 연구를 통해 쓰기의 각 하위영역과 읽기와의 관련성이 입증되었으며, 이러한 관련성은 쓰기장애 위험여부와 학년수준에 따라 차이가 있음을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 결과는 추후 쓰기장애 위험학생들에게 읽기와 관련한 효과적인 교육적 중재를 제공하는데 토대가 될 것이다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study was to investigate the writing-reading relationship of elementary students at risk for writing disabilities. A total of 96 children(Grades 1~6) of elementary students in the region of P-city were participated. In this sample, 41 children were identified as students at risk for writing disabilities and 55 children were identified as typical students. For the purpose, we examined the writing skills-writing fluency, spelling and composition- and reading related variables-reading fluency, word identification and reading comprehension-. Then we analyzed associations between writing skills and reading related variables and influence of the reading on writing.
The results are as follows; First, in the lower grade elementary students at risk, there were significant correlations between all of the writing skills and reading related variables. Second, in the upper grade elementary students at risk, there were significant correlations for writing fluency and spelling. Writing fluency correlated significantly with reading fluency and spelling correlated significantly with word identification, reading fluency and reading comprehension. But there was no correlation for composition. Third, in the lower grade elementary students at risk, reading fluency accounted for a statistically significant amount of variance in writing fluency. Reading fluency and word identification accounted for a statistically significant amount of variance in spelling. And reading fluency accounted for a statistically significant amount of variance in composition. Finally, in the upper grade elementary students at risk, reading fluency accounted for a statistically significant amount of variance in writing fluency and work identification accounted for a statistically significant amount of variance in spelling.
In conclusion, the results show that there is writing-reading relationship. And there are different reading related variables for writing skills among the groups. Our finding is useful to develop instruction for the students at risk for writing disabilities. Limitations of the present study is that we examined only reading related variables. So future research is needed to include other variables.
