1. 연구의 필요성 - 낙상현황
- 낙상은 다양한 요인에 의해 높은 곳에서 넘어지거나, 떨어지는 것을 의미한다[1].
- 전 세계적으로 고령화가 진행되면서 노인의 낙상 위험성이 증가하는 추세이다. 특히 우리나라에서 노인 비율이 급격히 늘어나고 있는 현 시점에서 낙상이 노년 생활의 큰 문제점이 되고 있다.
- 우리나라의 2023년 통계에 따르면, 추락 및 낙상률은 37.8%로 나타났으며, 낙상은 손상으로 인한 사망원인 중 3위로 나타났다.
- 손상으로 입원한 환자 중 65세 이상 노인이 전체 환자의 80%를 차지하며 손상 원인은 추락(낙상)은 60.9%로 나타났다[2].

- 암 환자와 낙상 간 관계
- 암을 진단받은 노인 환자는 암을 진단받지 않은 노인 환자보다 낙상위험성이 높다[3].
- 입원한 암 환자는 고령, 기능장애, 다약제 사용, 암과 관련된 상태악화로 인한 신경학적 요인, 영양 결핍과 관련된 피로 등 다양한 낙상 위험요인을 가지고 있다[4].
- 항암 치료를 받는 환자는 체중감소, 오심, 구토, 설사 등을 경험하며 신체기능이 저하되어 낙상 위험성이 높아지게 된다[5].
- 신경독성을 유발하는 항암제를 투여받는 환자의 3분의 2이상이 항암 첫 번째 주기에서부터 말초신경병증을 경험하게 되는데[6], 이는 통증 및 감각 소실을 야기하여 잠재적으로 낙상 위험을 증가시킨다[7].
