Abstract

초록

이 글은 높은 교육열과 입시지옥 등과 관련된 현상을 이해할 하나의 대안적인 관점–교육전쟁론-을 제시할 목적으로 쓰였다. 이 대안적인 관점은 한국의 학자들이 이 교육현상을 어떠한 시각으로 바라보고 있으며 지금의 한국 현실에서 살고 있는 사람들이 이 현상을 어떻게 이해하고 있나를 조사한 결과를 토대로 만들어진 것이다. 교육전쟁론은 우리의 상황을 기존 이론과 달리 갈등이나 경쟁이 심한 정도가 아니라 교육전쟁이 진행되고 있다고 본다. 그리고 국가 정부를 어느 한 관점에 터해서 파악하기 보다는 시대의 흐름에 따라 서로 다른 실체를 들어내는 다면체적 존재로 파악한다. 교육전쟁론은 사회의 계층이 느슨한 구조를 이루고 있고 그 구조 안의 개인은 상당한 정도의 자율의지를 가지고 있다고 본다. 따라서 개인의 행동 양식으로 표출되는 교육관련 현상은 단순히 어느 계층의 의지가 실현된 것이 아니라 구조 속의 개인이 상황과 영향을 주고 받으며 만들어지는 것으로 본다.

영어초록

Like we know, when Western social and human theories are accepted as grand theories that can explain social and human phenomena of other societies, it becomes a disaster not only to the societies those theories are accepted but also to the Western societies. In this paper I suggest an alternative and regional way of seeing - battle field theory of education – the phenomena of extremely high zeal for education, exam hell, and higher education expansion. And based on that perspective, I reanalize educational problems and their origins, and prescribe alternative solutions.
The battle field theory defines the present situation of Korean education as ‘war for education. ’ The battle field theory of education is focusing on the individual while admitting the existence of a ‘ loosely coupled system and structure.' I call this view the ‘ individualistic structural view ’ The theory focuses on the individual in the structure and argues that the individual’s behavior does not necessarily reflect and represent the structure’s intention. This view assumes that the individual has partially free will that is different from the group’s will. In this point, we can call this view an 'individualistic structural view.’ Second, this view sees the group or class as a ’loosely coupled structure. ’ According to this view, the group interests are not as solid as any other views assert and sometimes the inner-group conflicts are bigger than the inter-group conflicts. This view assumes that when there are conflicts between the group or class interests and personal interests, people choose to protect their personal interests rather than their group’s. Third, this view is distinguished from other views in the point that it doesn’t accept or reject assumptions of any state theory. It might be categorized as ’a state-free view,' like the context perspective.
The battle field theory of education theory lose explanation power in Korea when it becomes a wealthy country, it has a fixed social structure, and educational credential doesn’t work as an important ticket for class movement. Most theories in the field of social and human studies are built based on a certain time, space, and people. The explanation power of a theory is usually changed when the context is changed.
