If we agree to call the world global village, there would be neighbors as well. Who would be the neighbor of Korea? There are several countries that we can call neighbors, however, I assume that Japan might be the closest one. There is no one who doesn't want to have a good relationship with their neighbors, so it is the time to think about the ways to make the future relationship between Korea and Japan more friendly and cooperative.Noticeable Historical Background between Korea and JapanThere is a saying, "Discover new things by understanding the past." So, I would like before discussing the future relationship. In the mid nineteenth century, Choson had refused the request for several problems such as the strife about dominion of Dokdo, Yaskuni Shrine visiting, distorted history textbook, and so on, and Korean people think that the origin of the strife is, of course, Japan. On the other hand, Japanese people think that Korea changed their mind because of domestic reasons. Although we, two countries held the world cup together in 2002, these kind of misunderstandings make the relationship worse and worse.We, Korea and Japan, two countries should overcome so-called capriciousness which occurs repeated hostility and compromise in order to become cooperators each other in the rapidly changing world situation.Possible Solutions for the friendly and cooperative future of Korea and Japan1. Clearing off the Past Affairs and Distorted History textbookIt is true that one of the obstacles we have now is the Past Affairs. Before we start the discussion about the better relationship, there are some issues that we have to clear up. It should begin with Japanese politiciatory, Japanese government argues that Dokdo is theirs, as I mentioned before. Moreover, they declared 'The Sea of Japan' instead of 'East Sea' in the textbooks and international maps. This upsets Korean people very seriously, however, we Korean people also think it from reasonable point of view, not with fiery emotions. There are several reasonable ways to solve this problem. There are a lot of evidences which is related with history to prove and there are international laws to arbitrate.3. Reinforcing Cooperation in Technology and EconomyThese solutions, I mean, reinforcing cooperation in economy, technology, and national security is very important for the relationship between not only Korea and Japan but also with other countries. But the problem as well as the task we have now is to correct the lack of balance in trade between Korea and Japan through activating to transfer the technology. This is possible in the present time thanks to developed information technology network, and th is getting somewhat uncertain and anxious. So I think it is not so good idea to be competitive mode each other in terms of national security, and we should cooperate to dissolve these uncertainty and anxiety. Especially, we two countries should make efforts to dissolve the insecurity due to the nuclear weapons of North Korea. Moreover, it is the time to assure the national security among the countries which have Big Power such as the US, Russia, and China.5. Education for removing AntipathyTwo things are always required to solve certain problems and make ways to establish a new system. The first one is institutional device such as strict laws, or systems which are made by government. The second one is education to make a difference for people. Of course two things are samely important, but I would like to emphasis the necessity of the education.I do not want to agree, but it is obviously true that we Korean people have antipathy against Japanese people due to the memories of colonialirts can be sharedⅱ. Students and Academic interchangeAs one of the university students, I would like to suggest more students and academic interchange. This kind of lecture, I mean ‘한일관계의 도전과 미래’, is really what I have always wanted to have. I hope that universities secure an ample budget for the student exchange between Korea and Japan. Moreover, I wish there are some scholarship for the students who study Japanese language, culture, history, and so on, or for the students who travel Japan.ⅲ. Interchange in entertainment and cultureWe all know well the influence which was made by Korean wave. We need to make the best use of the merit of the Korean wave. Korean entertainment and culture is getting more and more popular in Japan, and also there are already a lot of fans who love Japanese entertainment such as songs, movies, and animations. I think that entertainment and culture interchange can be easy and really good way to make the relationship between Korea and Japan much more friendlve.

Was it poor visibility or superstition that made Manchester United`s players abandon their grey strop for away games in the middle of a Premiership match in 1996? The players couldn`t pick each other out, manager Alex Ferguson told reporters at the time. It was nothing to do with superstition. They said it was difficult to see their team mates at a distance. But his protest failed to mention that on the five occasions the grey strop had been worn, the team had failed to win. Dr. Richard Wiseman, a psychologist at Hertfordshire University, says United`s players may have succumbed to the power of superstition without even realizing it. I might argue that the players may have unconsciously noticed that when they do certain things, one of which might well involve the wearing of red shirts, they are successful. He draws a parallel with research into stock market speculators. Like gamblers they swore that certain days were lucky for them . Eventually it was shown that the successful market speculators were unconsciously picking up on numerous indicators and were shadowing market trends but were unable to explain how they did it. Superstition plays a part whenever people are not certain what it is they do to achieve a good performance and people who have to perform to order are particularly vulnerable.
