Liberal Arts are necessary to Students

< Liberal Arts are necessary to Students >>Nowadays, people are not aware of the good effects learning liberal arts could have. The need of learning liberal arts is like an air, so people don’t be awaken to the gravity if the matter. In this article, I want to say that learning liberal arts is a basic education, and these curricula make people increase their power of thought and knowledge and they allows that people gain their experiences.First, learning liberal arts makes to extend people’s thinking faculty and knowledge. It means that when people think about something, they consider it in all its aspects. Let us suppose that someone buys a table. He or she considers many things: table’s size, cost, design, and so forth. We can learn about these things from liberal arts. Not only people use liberal arts-fed knowledge to buy and sell products, but also they have the great flexibility use of it. When people work for their company, they do not think only one field of subjects. They think many kinds of following things: a company’s profits and losses, prices, marketing and advertising, exportation and importation, and others. Like this, learning liberal arts has great flexibility of use.The last thing is that learning arts allows that people gain their experiences. Let us suppose that someone learn only one kind of curriculum. He or she would know many things about the curriculum like an expert; however, he/she does not know variety knowledge to live in our society. I have an example about that. One of my friends, he is as same as my age, was a swimming player. He had learned a swim since he was an elementary school. He received many prizes from games, and he was a young man of great promise in the swimming association. When I met him for the first time, he was already charged from his swimming team. The reason was that every time, he had had his left arm dislocated when he swam in the pool. At that time, he wandered from place to place because he didn’t know everything excepting a swim. In addition, he didn’t know how to make a relationship with people. As you see my friend’s case, learning just a sort of curriculum is sometimes very adventurous for a person. Hence, I believe it important that learning liberal arts gives a chance to people that experience many things such as food, clothing, and shelter.Taking all that into consideration, I believe that learning liberal arts makes to increase human’s knowledge and think faculty and allows that people experience many things. While we climbed the mountain, we were caught in a rainstorm and we moved our bodies to a humble cottage to take shelter from the rain. At that place, I saw a big ginkgo tree and small reeds while I fixed my eyes on the outside through a window. The ginkgo tree overcame an extreme rainstorm strongly by his big bough and deep roots. The small reeds held out against the rainstorm to rock themselves from side to side. In the same way the ginkgo and the reeds have different ways of living; America and Korea have different culture lives from each other as if the ginkgo tree and the small reeds are different in their living ways. Among these different ways of living are food culture, possessing weapons, and domestic life.One large difference is that our country and America have many points of differences about eating and drinking. Rice and Kim chi are the staple food for Korean people. In contrast, bread, hamburger, and pizza are the staple foods for American people. In addition, our country’s people use chopsticks and a spoon when they eat while American people use a folk, a knife, and a spoon. In addition to these points, the table manners between Koreans and Americans also differ. For example, Korean people eat their meal without chairs. They also don’t eat before their elders have started, and they don’t do any talking while they eat. In addition, Korean and American people have many differences about their meal like taste, table manner, and so forth. Korean and American differ greatly from their meal which is one of the necessaries to live our lives.Another difference is the possessing of weapons. The American public can carry weapons such as a gun and a knife so easily, but possessing a weapon is very hard for the Korean public. Even buying a weapon is difficult for Korean people from a weapon shop in a big city; however, our country has to obtain a weapon so privately. The reason is that selling a weapon is illegal. For this reason, our country has a much lower percentage of crimes and accidents which are caused by weapons than America.The biggest difference between Korean and American people is their family lives. In America, children and parents have comfortable relations as the friendly friends; in contrast to, Korea does not. Because, in Korea, most fathers have the highest position in a family and we have to comply with their reactions. Besides, American children are independent from their parents very early, but our parents take care of their children until they go to the university. Early independent American children are showed more mental growth than Korean Children.Up to now, we have investigated in culture between Korean and American. These two countries have large differences about a meals, possessing a weapon, and a family life. We realized that these country’s cultures have not only merits, but also demerits. So, in the age of globalization, we should create more developed culture to learn American culture and other countries advantages, and remove our disadvantages.Cheul yong. The double-edged sword of the internet

Homework for Reading & Composition ClassTo Monica and MikeChuel Yong ChoiThe internet is a sea of information, with its countless websites and its promise to continuously increase. A mere five or six years ago in Korea, the internet was limited in its use by the general public and only accessible to technology experts and scholars. However, some daily newspapers and advertising companies expanded their strategies to include the internet in their communication with the general public. They claimed that using the internet was very useful in helping people learn. This situation caused the recent “internet boom” in Korea. This boom resembled the gold rush which swept over the America in the mid-19th century. Now, people use the internet whenever and wherever they want. The internet may seem perfect; however, perfection cannot be expected in anything. Since it is so widely used, it can cause a problem which is called “the internet syndrome,” or “webaholism.” A scene from the American movie menons in our society. Securing the anonymity allows people to use not only unlimited freedom of expression, but also an intemperate violent speech. So, people can be courageous, plain speaking, and impertinent persons. How some bad people use anonymity on the internet? According to studies performed by Jacob Palme, slander, distribution of child pornography, illegal threats, racial agitation, fraud, intentional damage such as distribution of computer viruses, etc are occurred because of theby anonymity of the internet. (Palme, J. 2002). However, anonymity has not only a dark side but also a bright side. Some people take affirmative views of anonymity. Jacob’s research shows us two examples of bright side. One example is that people may openly talk about personal things which they would be perplexed to tell many people about, such as sexual and mental problems. Another example is that, people are more equal in anonymous discussions., Ffactors like status, gender, etc., will not influenta, so finding new data was very difficult. However, nowadays, those works become an easy task, and make life convenient. For example, just one person from a company can control and manage a lot of works by the internet. Also, classifying data is simple to use some programs like Word processor, Excell, Acrobet reader, and etc. Another advantage is the internet has a variety of functions in our society. For instance, information retrieval, home shopping, giving a meeting and talking place (chatting), sharing and exchanging data, home banking, entertainment, and e-mail. Now, computers and the internet play a vital role in nearly all aspects of people’s everyday life. If it goes out of the world, people will feel inconvenient. However, sharing data does not assured of the complete security of people’s private information. Sharing information gives rise to the violation of people’s private lives. Some bad persons try to hack into other persons’ computer through the internet and invade theiu use it for a long time. It causes two physical problems: one is an eye problem, the other is a back, shoulder, neck, and hands problems. The computer has electromagnetic waves: it has a harmful influence to people’s eyes. Electromagnetic waves also causes a headache when people use the computer for a long time. When we use the computer, we sit down on a chair for a lengthy period of time. It gives a dangerous damage to back, shoulder, neck, and hands because fixed position for a long time is bad for your back. RAccording to a research described inwhich is “Computer influences a man health” shows us how it is harmful for people’s health. The researchers said that people who take up a computer occupation have the vast part of health protests on muscles and joints diseases. Mostly this is neck torpor, shoulders and the waist pain or legs wounding. Among these physical problems, the most prevalent problem is carpal tunnel syndrome. In this case arm nerves are damaged by working with the reatest point of the internet is that the computer has a slew of information and knowledge as uncountable stars ion the heaven. The internet is the a data bank. It means people can save and load amount of information in the internet like a bank. Like these information and knowledge are very helpful to people’s studies. However, as before mentioned, there is a proverb which says “You may go farther and fare worse.” No matter how something is good, it would be bad for you if it was too much.Now, we have a chance to make a new attempt to use the internet which has an unlimited possibility. The revolution of the internet shows new world of mailing, banking, purchasing, and sharing. This revolution receives people with its open arms and makes people happy; however, there are so many dangerous traps as much as wide open arms. FTA란 무엇인가?2. 한미FTA의 추진배경3. 한미FTA의 추진내용4. 한미FTA가 주요산업에 미치는 영향5. 한미FTA의 ISD6. 한미FTA의 장단점7. 한미FTA 찬·반의견Ⅲ. 결론Ⅳ. 참고문헌Ⅰ. 서론최근 모든 매체를 통해서 한미FTA에 대한 찬반의 목소리들이 나타나고 있다. 특히 한미FTA가 국회에서 비준되면서 비준 무효화를 외치는 촛불집회와 야권의 반대 의견이 거세지고 있다. 이날 본회의에는 재적의원 295명 가운데 170명이 참석해 찬성 151명, 반대 7명, 기권 12명으로 한미 FTA 비준동의안을 통과되었는데 비준안 통과과정에서 야당 의원들은 국회의장석 주변을 에워싸고 국회 경위들과 몸싸움을 벌였고 민주노동당 김선동 의원은 본회의장에 최루탄을 터뜨렸다. 이로 인해 일부 의원들이 본회의장 밖으로 피신하는 소동이 일기도 했다. 이러한 사건이 일어난 것으로 인해 우리나라의 국회 수준을 바닥으로 떨어뜨렸다는 점에서 눈살을 찌푸리게 하지만 사건의 원인에 대해 나 또한 부당하지 않았나 라는 생각이 들었다. 이날 국회에서 비준이 통과될 때 야당위원들의 불참 속에서 한나라당이 강행처리한 것은 예상되는 반대와 충돌을 피하기 위해 처리한 것으로 보여지기 때문에 한미FTA하면 ‘날치기 통과’라는 꼬리표가 붙는지도 모르겠다. 미국과 이런 조약을 체결하는 것은 분명 우리에게도 이익이 있기 때문에 실행하려는 것이고 반대집회를 하는 것도 분명 이유가 있기 때문일 것이다. 이러한 상황 속에서 한미FTA 비준 통과에 대해 강력한 반대를 하는 세력들과 이런 반발에도 불구하고 강행처리 하려는 세력들의 주장들이 궁금해졌다. 따라서 한미FTA에 대한 내용들을 자세히 조사하고 농식품분야에 대한 찬성여론과 반대여론에 대해 정리하여 이를 바탕으로 내 생각을 도출해보도록 할 것이다.Ⅱ. 본론1.FTA란 무엇인가?자유무역협정 FTA(Free Trade Agreement)는 특정국가간에 배타적인 무역특혜를 서로 상호보완성이 높은 국가이다. 일본은 철강, 반도체·전자부품, 정보통신 산업 부분에서 한국과의 경쟁부분이 많고, 농업과 서비스 부분에서는 유통 및 시장구조의 폐쇄성이 존재하여 FTA를 체결하기에 부적합했다. 그리고 중국의 경우에슨 경쟁 구도 이외에 정부 보조금, 중앙정부 규제 등이 많고, 아직 자유시장경제체제로 보기에는 어려움이 있어 역시 FTA를 체결하기에 알맞지 않았다. 이에 따라 한국은 우선적으로 미국과의 FTA를 추진하는 데 합의했다.미국에 입장에서 한국은 NAFTA 이후 최대 경제규모의 FTA 협상국이었다. 미국이 보기에 한국의 농산물 및 서비스, 금융서비스 시장은 일본이나 EU에 비해 매력적이었다. 왜냐하면, 일본의 경우 유통구조의 복잡성 및 일본제품을 선호하는 소비자 의식과 자연발생적 폐쇄성 때문에 미국 기업의 일본 진출이 매우 부진한 상황이었고, EU는 농업 문제는 물론이고 미국과 유사한 무역구조를 가지고 있어서 자동차, 제약 등 제조업 및 서비스업 분야에서 FTA를 맺기엔 쟁점 사항이 많았다.이와 같이 한국과 미국은 상호보완적인 경제구조라는 통상 측면에서 서로 의견을 같이 하여 FTA 협상을 시작했는데, 이 외에도 다양한 정치·경제적 의의가 있다. 먼저, 한국의 경우 한미 FTA를 통해 동북아에서의 위상을 제고하고 세계 최대 국방력을 자랑하는 미국과의 동맹 관계를 견고화하여 안보 강화를 달성하려고 했다. 다음으로, 미국의 경우, 한국과의 FTA 체결을 통해 동북아에서의 영향력을 제고하려고 했다. 한국은 중화권역의 대륙권과 미·일 해양권이 정치·경제적으로 충돌할 수 있는 지정학적 요충지에 위치하고 있어, 미국에 입장에서는 한국과의 FTA 체결이 외교적으로 상당히 매력적이었다.3. 한미FTA의 추진내용1) 상품양국은 모든 상품의 관세를 철폐한다. 승용차는 FTA 발효 4년 후 철폐된다. 미국은 현 관세 2.5%를 한꺼번에 없애고, 한국은 발효 시 관세를 현 8%에서 4%로 내리고서 4년 후 완전히 철폐한다. 전기자동차는 미국이 관세 2.5%를 4년합의’ 제도를 도입했다. 아울러 반덤핑 조사 개시 전부터 최종 판정 단계에 이르기까지 전 과정에 걸쳐 우리 기업의 입장을 대변할 수 있는 대화채널인 무역구제위원회를 설치하기로 했다. 한미 양국은 다자 세이프가드를 발동할 때 상대국의 수출품이 끼치는 피해가 크지 않으면 발동 대상에서 상대국을 면제해 줄 수 있는 근거 규정을 마련했다.5) 서비스도박·금융·항공운송·정부조달 등 일부를 제외한 모든 서비스 분야에서 내국민대우, 최혜국대우, 시장접근 제한 조치의 도입 금지, 현지주재 의무 부과의 금지 등 네 가지 의무가 일반적으로 적용된다. 공교육, 의료, 사회서비스, 수도·전기·가스·생활환경 서비스 등 공공성이 강한 분야에서 정부의 모든 규제 권한은 포괄적으로 이 네 가지 의무가 적용되는 것이 유보된다.방송 분야 역시 방송채널사용사업자(PP)에 한해 최소한으로 개방된다. PP에 대한 직접투자는 현행대로 49%로 한정된다. 국내 법인 설립을 통한 투자는 현 50%에서100%까지 확대된다. 종합편성, 보도, 홈쇼핑 채널은 제외된다. 스크린 쿼터는 현 수준인 73일로 동결됐다. 기간통신사업에 대한 직접투자는 현행 제한(49%)이 유지되고, 간접투자는 100%까지 허용된다. 국내 핵심기간망을 보유한 KT와 SK텔레콤은 제외된다.법률 서비스는 3단계, 회계·세무 분야는 2단계로 개방이 추진된다. 양국은 ‘전문직 서비스 작업반’을 협정 발효 즉시 구성해 우선 엔지니어링, 건축설계, 수의 분야에서 전문직 자격 상호인정 논의를 추진하기로 했다.금융 분야에선 양국은 우리나라의 외국환거래법상 단기 세이프가드가 FTA 협정에 반하지 않은 조치임을 명확히 했다. 산업은행, 기업은행, 농협, 수협 등 국책금융기관은 FTA 체결 이후에도 정부의 특별대우를 그대로 받는다.6) 투자투자유치국 정부가 협정상 의무 등을 위배해 투자자에게 손실이 발생하면 투자자가 투자유치국 정부를 상대로 국내법원에 제소 또는 국제중재를 요청할 수 있는 ‘투자자-국가간 분쟁해결절차(ISD)가 도입됐다. 한미 양국은 보된다. 한-미 FTA의 농업분야는 기존의 기 체결되었던 FTA에 비해 상당한 진통과 부정적 효과가 클 것으로 예상되고 있다. 따라서 식량 안보나 농가 경제상 중요도가 있는 품목들은 양허대상에서 필히 제외해야 할 것이다. 한국은 한-미 FTA 발효를 대비하여 근본적으로 농가소득의 안정장치를 마련하여 농업의 다원적 기능과 가치를 인정하는 국민적인 합의를 도출해야 할 것이다.3) 서비스 분야한국의 서비스산업은 전반적으로 볼 때 미국이나 일본, 유럽 등 선진국에 비해 월등히 뒤떨어져 있다. 이 서비스 분야는 2005년 NTE보고서에서 지시되었던 건설, 회계 및 엔지니어링 서비스 부분에 대한 지적사항이 삭제되어 전체적인 분량 및 지적사항이 감소하였다. 분야별로는 광고, 시청각 및 방송서비스, 법률서비스, 보험, 은행서비스 부문에서 개방이 미흡하거나 개선되어야 할 규제가 있다고 언급하고 있다. 서비스 부문 중에 미국이 가장 많은 문제를 제기하고 있는 분야가 시청각 및 방송서비스 분야인데 결국 미국은 이 분야에 최대의 관심 분야라고 할 수 있다. 또한 이 보고서에 의하면 한국이 세계 12대의 광고서비스시장을 보유하고 있으나, 규제가 심각하다고 평가하고 있다. 특히 한국방송광고공사의 광고판매 독점문제는 수년에 걸쳐 지속적으로 제기되고 있으며, 2006년 NTE 보고서에 신규로 첨가된 조항은 17% 이상의 알코올을 함유하고 있는 주류의 방송광고 제한에 대한 미국업계의 불만이다. 또한 스크린쿼터 축소는 지난 수년 동안 NTE 보고서에서 지속적으로 제기되어 왔고, 이에 한국정부는 2006년 1월 쿼터를 기존 146일에서 73일로 축소하게 되었는데 이 보고서에서는 별다른 지적 없이 사실만을 언급하고 있다.한-미 FTA 체결시 우리나라 서비스 산업에 전반적인 영향은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 제조업 생산성 향상에 기여할 중간재로서 서비스산업을 선진화할 수 있는 계기가 될 것이다. 둘째, 제조업과 이외 산업의 경쟁력 향상이 가능할 것이다. 셋째, 경제 전체의 높은 생산성과 효율성 증대에 기상당 수준 시장 개방이 진행된 상품 교역에 비해 그 과장은 상대적으로 클 것으로 예상된다.넷째, 한미 FTA를 통해 한국과 미국 간의 협정을 맺으면 무관세나 낮은 관세를 적용하여 한미 두나라 간의 교류가 확대된다. 낮은 관세로 우리 상품이 미국 시장에 수출되기 때문에 일본이나 중국이 미국에 수출한 상품보다 우리의 제품이 경쟁력을 가질 수 있다. 또한 우리 경제와 사회 시스템 전반을 선진화하여 국가경쟁력을 높일 수도 있다.미국은 세계 최대의 시장, 최대 투자국이다. 상품 경쟁력이 판가름 나는 Test Market으로써 미국 수입시장 규모는 1.7조 불로서 일본, 중국과 아세안을 합친 것보다 더 많다. 한미 FTA는 일본, 중국, 대만 등 주요 경쟁국보다 먼저 세계 최대의 수입시장인 미국시장을 안정적으로 선결할 수 있는 기반을 마련하고, 우리 경제, 사회 전반의 제도와 관행의 국제화를 촉진시키며 안보리스크를 완화하여 대외신인도 향상에도 기여할 수 있다.다섯째, 우리나라는 무역의존도가 매우 높은 국가이다. (한국의 대외무역 의존도 71.5%, 한국은행) 미국도 마찬가지이기 때문에, 이런 국가 간에 FTA를 체결하게 되면 이들 국가와 FTA를 체결하지 않은 국가 간의 수출품은 여전히 자국 내에서 관세가 붙거나 할당제가 되기 때문에, FTA를 체결한 국가 간의 무역 결속력을 더욱 강하게 해준다. 예를 들어, 동일한 성능의 일본, 한국산 중형자동차가 FTA 이전에 관세포함 각각 1500달러에 미국에서 팔리던 것이 FTA이후에 한국산은 1000달러에 일본산은 여전히 1500달러에 팔리게 된다면 경쟁력이 생긴 한국산 중형자동차는 해당 시장을 석권해 버릴 것이다. 미국의 입장에서는 준형자동차시장보다는 고급자동차 시장에서 자국 자동차 회사들이 비교우위에 있었으며 FTA이전이나 이후 모두 중형자동차 시장은 수입품이 많은 점유율을 차지하고 있었기 때문에 커다란 변화가 없다. 또한 자국의 중형자동차 시장을 보호하기 위해 관세를 수입차에 대해 붙인 경우라면, FTA 이후에 비교우위가 다.
