1. Decisions and activities that move toward effective sharing of the gospel.Rome’s power ruled the world. We can say that her power contributed for spreading of gospel in early Christianity. Well-paved and well-guarded road brought distant countries and new regions near. And Rome sought to Syncretism in order to achieve great unity. It caused to draw plenty of culture from various countries to Rome through great infrastructure. At the same time, Diaspora got scattered around the world for many reasons. Strong persecutions happened under Rome accelerated their dispersion. Where they scattered, they kept their tradition and practiced, building synagogues which would became strategic spots for sharing of the gospel. One of big concern was that a number of Diaspora had forgotten how to speak their language. This is how the Septuagint came from. This translation had used very effectively for Christianity. If there is anyone who can speak Greek language, he can communicate everywhere under ny wanted to be a Christian because church was rich, supported from empire. They considered Christianity as a means of gaining. Obviously quantity of church increased but quality of church decreased. Nowadays Korean churches hold many problems caused by prosperity belief. Especially, prosperity religion deeply had been rooted in Koreans who were influenced by shamanism for long. For this reason, there are many reactions, coming out. Now keyword of Korean church is “restoration” Various programs and systems like Cell-church have been developed in country and adapted from the many part of world.The PapacyTo search the Papacy helps us to understand the history of the church of the Middle Ages. Also, until now, to search about the pope holding the powerful power within the Catholic Church can be helping us to understand the present Catholic Church. That’s why I chose this sub-topic.It was the system of the pope that contributed to bring unity and durability during the Middle Ages. The wordans and the Saxons to be converted into Christianity in using the force of arms. With this, he did much in expanding of Roman Catholic Church. Forcing a religion is not a right Christian attitude, besides, it is not a right evangelizing way that forces people in using the sword. I would like to know about it.During the thirteenth century, that period was the climax of scholasticism, it was approached by a characteristic methodology, and its name was rooted in a theology that developed in the “schools.”Anselm of Canterbury insisted the doctrine called “the ontological argument for the existence of God” (p313) in order to prove the existence of God. He applies reason for the sake of understanding of faith. He demonstrated the reason why Jesus is God and must be man. Peter Abelard developed scholasticism; Peter Lambard dealt with a main question of theology of Christianity in a systematic analysis of theology scholasticism developed in the university. The reintroduction of the teaching of Aristotle to Western Europe influenced on the development of scholasticism.Bonaventura insisted that faith was essential to reaching a high understanding. Thomas Aqutechnical vocabulary, studied the things that only theologians could understand, therefore, Christians thought that this theology could not help their devout life rather as a obstacle. The theologians of the time insisted that, God is not controlled by human reason. No matter how irrational it is, God’s will can do everything.The gap between faith and reason was increased. It meant that previous tradition theories were invalid. The unfolding of such difficult thoughts was condemned. Therefore, the movement that tried to return to original simple figure of the Gospel was emphasized. If a theological theory remains only the theory for theory, and the gap from the present daily life is big, general believers get hard to understand God.It is very important to apply the truth to daily life. “You created everything, and it is for Your pleasure that they exist and were created.” Revelation 4:11I believe I’m here for His glory, His purpose, and His delight. God created us according to his image and He was pleased with His creations. At the same time, God gifted us for His enjoyment to create like He did so. We can please God and bring pleasure to God through worship that could be everything we do. The reason music has been using a significant means of worship since Jubal did is why it had been said music is the universal means of expression. Church music, using for worship service should fulfill its functions, glorifies God and edifies Human beings. In this sense, it has to include best-possible expression toward God’s self-revelation. Besides pleasure, emotion-expresser, and emotion-impresser should be included in its functions. Every Sunday all various kind of people the old, the rich, and etc, gather together in one church worshiping God. How can carry on it without conflve each different background and sense of values. Specially, usage of certain music style is one of big issue in church around world. But one thing I want to clarify is this. Agents of conservation believe what they have been doing is right and they keep saying that you try to break genuine order of service. But I merely try to break their view of order of worship. Everything can be used for worship as long as it fulfills its functions. Why not? But I have to be careful to apply it knowing edifying human beings as we had discussed in class. If no one can worship deeply using new style except me, I must avoid it. Balanced blending different style is required. And in situation like today, also we need to be a music minister being as a professional musician, as a professional administrator, and as a professional minister. And I was really impressed by book which was a second reading assignment. Among three characteristics of the leader that would make me effective in worship, the leader’s the presence of the king must have journeyed for into King’s country and often looked upon his face.”(Franklin M. Segler and Randall Bradley)Leader’s passion for worship should be above all congregation. Otherwise, who wants to worship God even a leader does not want to worship that much? Worshiping God is most valuable and precious thing in the world.So then, what’s the definition of worship have been discussed by many of theologian? As we had covered in Jubilate, some of them seem to be a one reasonable definition. I accept these terms as a definition of worship, conversation, offering, and becoming. According to Sore Kierkegaard, all worshipers are main actor in worship. God is sole audience who is very pleased with what we are doing. And ministers are prompters who can help us. We are talking to God looking forward God’s response through worship. And our Christian life must be a life of offering to God who supplies more than we need. Worship is the special particular moment to remfice, give our sacrifice of praise and give Him all sins I committed. Communication with God and giving everything to God without applying into our real life are questionable. Becoming godly is true shape of true worshiper. Incarnation is strongly necessary to live as a child of God.Through more than 3,000 years of Christian history, music has been associated with worship. Many kinds worship aspects and historical events had shown to us, effecting good or bad influence to church music that we have. We ought to discover carefully reasons why they lost good traditions and made such bad decisions in order to avoid errors that our ancestors made.Many trials to make new and good music had been done by musicians for more than 3,000 years. Now they are still making efforts for that. Of course “creative” is the one of keyword in not only Christian music but also secular music. I convince there is no more new music. Their efforts head towards emptiness. An example I experienced is that a pianisience was waiting for play. About 3 minutes after, he went out with confident face. When I saw the name of song, I got confused. I can’t remember the name of the song but it was “3 minutes OO seconds.” I finally came to know his intention that intentional silence and sound making from audience was his play. We regard “creative” very carefully with “choice” which is also one of key word in contemporary church music. I think we should make efforts with creativity in boundary of choice. Music that is difficult to understand and to share never fulfills its functions especially in church music.This class was more than a class for me, giving chance to solve questions that I have been asking myself. I stated my own answers that I got from this class in accordance with my understanding. Some are wrong and misunderstanding but what is important to me is to have willingness to learn and to apply it into our music ministry. May there be trials and errors that make us discouraged. 1. IntroductionAccording to John Piper, the reason the leaders such as Augustine, Calvin, or Luther was able to stand against numbers of opponent is the experience of God’s grace. Augustine could stand firm against the joys of life by God’s grace and Calvin as well who continued to analyze the Bible and preached. I would like to look back his life which had brought one most beautiful being in the whole universe and his contents so much based on the Bible.2. Religious BackgroundFrom end of 15th to early 16th century, it was the time that the Renaissance and the Reformation were running through.The salvation at that certain time had been considered as a something we can get by our own efforts. As a result, things like a pilgrimage were extremely emphasized. The churches even had collected saint’s bone or hair and displayed in order to satisfy believer’s desire. Furthermore the church obligated believers to do the sacrament of confession. Otherwise one would be fall into Purgatory and the Purgatory.3. The development of the Reformation through His life.Martin Luther was born at Eisleben where populated by 4,000 in November, 10 1484. His father, Hans Luder was farmer but after he had changed his job to miner, he prospered. In this mind, he wanted his son to be succeeded sending his son to great institute. He had entered the school at Erfiuz. After he had graduated that school with outstanding grade, he started to pursue a course of the law. One day he met the horrible thunder on the way back home from his parent’s place. He decided to be a monk at that moment. He stopped his study in spite of his father objecting in July 17, 1505. And he entered the black cloister of the Augustinian hermits. Although being a monk, he was not happy. He felt deserted and his soul suffered from guilty everyday confession his sins to the father. He drove himself to despair again and again, not knowing the way he could do so. While Johannes von Staupitz was observing him, he exhorted Martin ound the light. The light was the way that he had been finding until then. The salvation can not be achieved by any of human efforts such as an indulgence or a pilgrimage but by the faith alone (sola fide). Luther’s faith started to be shaken by the church which had been instigated people to buy an indulgence. They even promoted that it is possible to save your family who are in purgatory right now. Martin Luther who never agrees with the church, commenced to condemn the doctrine of the church. As he could not see any change on that, he posted his “Ninety-five Theses” at the church in October 31, 1517. It brought the controversies and served as a starting point. As the situation did not permit, Cajetan was sent to threaten him, speaking up “Unigentitus 1343” but he confuted that the council has higher authority than the pope and since human can make a mistake, the Scripture is the final authority.Through this argument, he accelerated attacks from outside. In June 24, 1520, the pope comin April 17, 1521. He was determined even though a day was given him to reconsider about it. For that reason, Luther was excommunicated in May 26, 1521. Luther, excommunicated, went exile into the castle of Wartburg where he completed his German Bible. About the time, the movement of reformation spread out to the whole having characterized as a nation wide and social movement. This happening brought many victims over the nation. Luther got married in June 13, 1925 and died at the age of 63 in February 18, 1546.4. His writingsWhile his sensation was on the process, he wrote three writings in 1520 when it is very significant year in regard of the Reformation.a. Christian Nobility of the German NationIt narrates the baptized are all clergymen and German nobility set the German free from the Rome, insisting to give properties back. It contains 10 suggestions to be reformed related the pope and a cardinal and 30 suggestions about all problems which is facing society.b. Freedom of a ChristianIt emphasizes of Christians freedom and serving toward neighbor with the general idea which Christians are totally free and no one among Christian can be captured.
