Fall of the Origin of JeansHistory of jeans is impossible to be thought without that of Levi Strauss & Co. (Levi’s). Founded in 1853 and patented its riveted pants twenty years later, Levi’s has become a recognizable brand worldwide. As the very common type of cloth, jeans were initially made for practical use. Levi Strauss started making jeans out of the fabrics of military tents after he recognized the need of strong and durable pants for the miners because they worked in the mines all the time. Nowadays, jeans are the most globally beloved fashion item, which are sold as many as any other type of cloth during a century. Until early 1990’s, Levi’s seemed to be the invincible ruler of the market of jeans.Its fame has been faded, however, as the fashion trend was changed, which Levi’s couldn’t catch up with. New fashion item, baggy style jean, of other competitors that sus exceedingly significant year for Levi’s Korea because Mr. Park was assigned for the president of the company. The company suddenly reported net profit after he started to manage the firm. 54% of sales growth was reported in 2001, 28% in 2002, and sales revenue have been grown steadily till 2006. He also tried to differentiate products, as well as launched local advertisement campaign. Furthermore, employee turnover rate has been reduced down frder of jeans seemed to appeal to Korean consumer successfully.3-2. Localization of AdvertisementAdvertisement is remarkably important in terms of sales revenue, although no scientific evidence on relationship between the amount of money spent on advertisement and the amount of sales increase has been found. Before local advertisement was implemented, Levi’s Korea used the global advertisement of Levi’s which targeted at American and European market mostly. This global advertisement might be able to have positive influence on sales by stimulating the worship of Western culture: however it could not appeal to Korean consumer as a fashion item people truly want.Levi’s Korea took local models, mostly male celebrities such as Jung-Hwan An, Jae-Jin Jo, and Ji-Hoon Joo, for its advertisement. Seeing Korean celebrities wearing Levi’s jeans, Korean consumers regarded its jeans as a premium fashionable item. Moreover, consumers felt Levi’s jeans more familiar than before because well-known celeb easy to access to consumers compared to other type of advertisement because it is located where people stay and go through. Even for those who do not pay attention to advertisement, wrapping advertisement is exposed to them simply, and is recognized easily. Similarly, wrapping paper is appropriate for inducing curiosity from consumers not just because it is a fresh way of advertising, but because it is easily accessible.[Figure 3] wrapping advertisement at Jam-sil stationConsidering cost and benefit decision, wrapping advertisement is the most practical advertisement. Unlike television commercial, for instance, which costs a lot for hiring celebrities and broadcasting cost, the cost of wrapping advertisement is much lower and the benefit can not be negligible. Moreover, wrapping advertisement is so flexible that it can be placed anywhere, anytime, and any duration as a sponsor wants.Because of all these benefits, Levi’s Korea chose to do wrapping advertisement when introducing new pro especially women like pelvis pants. The width of jeans has also been narrowed like other Asian style, for Asian people like skinny jean style compared to Western people. ENGL227 Section 007Pure Childhood or Secular Adulthood: That Is the QuestionThe Interpretation of Araby by James Joyce1. IntroductionThroughout lives, there should be at least one critical turning point that totally changes our way of living, or that of thinking. This significant point, an intuitional realization of truth, is called an epiphany. It can be the realization of either a magnificent truth or a trivial one. Whether great or not, however, the importance of an epiphany is that it entirely switches what we used to think. In this novel, Araby by James Joyce, I want to focus on an epiphany and two different aspects of love result from that epiphany.2. Epiphany with vanityThere is a boy with vanity who is suffered by undesignated anger and anguish which are derived from an epiphany; I call it growth. He was a little boy who loved hanging out with his friends after school. Living on a dead-end street, these children are so familiar with darkness; it is a part of their lives, becausit is a means to observe the world that he is hidden from.There is a girl, called Mangan’s sister, who seriously attracted the boy unintentionally. He truly believed that his feeling for her was so divine and pure that it could be related to his love to God. In his imagination, he felt as if he had become chivalrous knight existing for that girl. This is proven by the words he used; chalice, prayers, tears. He matches the image of Magnan’s sister to the chalice that he bore, which reminds me of a sincere knight, and he murmured her name while praying, which shows that it is a platonic love. Moreover, he shed tears which have the image of pureness. The fact that he went into the back drawing-room in which the priest had died also signifies that he regarded his love as another aspect of religious love.And then, there comes a wave in his bashful, but chaotic mind; Mangan’s sister came and talked to him about Araby. After that short conversation, he had undergone a change in his way of thianctity, and now, it becomes down-to-earth. Furthermore there is another juxtaposition that child’s play which he used to do pleasantly with his friends looked like ugly monotonous play. He is now looking for the light, trying to be out of the darkness, to go beyond of the dead-end street. The boy is now eager to become an adult. He strongly feels that he should get something for her at Araby, and for that chivalrous duty, he has to go to Araby.The journey to Araby is described as hardship; he was waiting for his uncle, worrying about not being able to go to Araby. He was also nervous about the slow train. These difficulties imply the way of growing up, and the boy doesn’t want to go through them. He wants to get what he wants without intervening time, without suffering, which is not possible. After enduring the suffering time, he could finally arrive at the bazaar. Unfortunately, the truth that is waiting for him is neither the reward of pure and divine love, nor the way beyond the det is ‘dark’ as is in the dead-end street, the meaning of darkness is exceedingly different. Darkness that used to be part of him now becomes the past that reflects him in presence in a distance. While gazing at that darkness, there comes an epiphany. What he really wants to achieve after tolerating tribulation turns out to be emptiness; there is nothing left. To his tragedy, his innocent belief was cruelly destroyed by that epiphany that his feeling for Mangan’s sister is no more no less than what people in the secular world call ‘love’. He eventually figures it out from the conversation of a young lady and two young gentlemen. Moreover, he has to admit with pain that it is only he who is so obsessive about the relationship with her. After that moment, everything surrounding him became different to him. He feels angry about himself as a poor boy. He now feels sympathy for not being able to go back to naive childhood from which he wanted to escape before. He is left in vanity with angerss. The pureness of her must have let him get that image. The fact that she seems really sincere to God also influences on that image. As darkness admires light, he admires her and wants to be in light side. Finally, however, he found out that it’s no more than emptiness being in light; there was nothing special being an adult, which makes him despondent. His short journey to Araby represents a farewell to his childhood. Emptiness or not, however, he moved ahead learning from painful lessons. That is what is called life, and that is what growth is all about.3. ConclusionEvery child wants to be an adult. As soon as his/her dream comes true, however, he/she also realizes the absolute advantage of being a child; a child can be ignorant that can be seen as innocent and pure.Once a person becomes an adult, he/she knows the cruel reality of the world including the dark side of people’s emotion. The boy in Araby also realizes the vanity of romantic love that he dreamed eagerly. In that sense,9

[감상문]제8요일, 그속의 다운증후군 평가A좋아요

1. 시작하는 글영화 ‘제 8요일’은 제대로 보지는 못했지만 아마 누구나 다 알고 있을 영화 제목일 것이다. 사람들이 언급하기를 망설이는 정신질환인 다운증후군 환자를 주제로 촬영한 이 영화는 그 이유 하나만으로도 큰 이슈를 낳았지만, 무엇보다도 기존의 장애를 다루는 영화가 장애가 있는 사람들의 삶의 애환과 고통, 사회의 무관심 등을 주로 다루고 있는 반면, 이 영화는 그 분위기가 다르다는 점에서 주목을 받았다. 평소 한번 꼭 봐야겠다고만 생각하고, 차일피일 미루고 있었는데, 기회가 닿은 김에 빌려보았다.이 영화는 크게 네 단계로 구성된다. 해리와 조지의 각자의 생활, 두 사람의 만남부터 서로의 갈 길을 향한 동행의 과정, 그리고 서로의 귀착지를 찾지 못하고 다시 헤어져 일상 속으로 향하는 과정, 마지막으로 두 사람의 일상으로부터의 '위험한' 탈출, 행복, 그리고 조지의 죽음으로 귀착된다.사회적 약자라고 볼 수 있는 조지가, 사회적으로 성공한 축에 속하는 해리의 상처를 보듬어주고 그의 마음을 안정시켜 치료해가는 과정은 감동의 연속이다. 이 영화는 다운증후군환자와 그 질병에 초점을 맞추기 보다는, 그들과 평범한 사람들이 한데 어우러져 그리는 아름다운 한 폭의 그림에 집중한 것 같다.‘뇌를 알자’ 수업을 듣는 수강생으로써, 본래 문학을 전공하는 학생으로서, 두 가지 측면에서 영화를 감상해 보았다.2. 의학적 접근1) 조지를 슬프게 하는 그 이름, 다운증후군다운증후군은 부모의 난자 또는 정자의 염색체 이상에 의해 생기는 장애이다. 이 장애의 특징은 모든 면의 발달 중에서도 특히 지능적인 면의 발달이 지체되는 것이다. 다운증후군 아동은 특유의 신체적 특성을 나타내기 때문에, 비록 이러한 신체의 형태적 특징들이 사소한 것이라 하더라도, 태어나자마자 외모로 판별이 가능하다.다운증후군이란 용어는 그 특징을 처음으로 정확하게 밝힌 존 랭던 다운(John Langdon Down)의 이름을 따서 지어졌다. 그는 처음에, 19세기 중엽의 다른 과학자들과 마찬가지로, 찰스다윈의 '종 놀리는 것을 듣고 자신이 정말로 몽고사람이라고 생각하고 있다는 것에 있다. 그는 끝까지 자신에게 문제가 있다는 것을 몰랐고, 영화에서 몽골의 한 부족의 추장이 되어 말을 타고 달리는 장면은 웃음과 동시에 코끝 찡한 울음을 이끌어낸다.2) 염색체, 그 작은 거인의 힘염색체란 몸을 이루는 모든 세포의 핵 가운데서 볼 수 있는 아주 작은 물질이다. 모든 정상 세포는 46개 즉 23쌍의 염색체로 구성되어 있으며, 이 염색체를 그 형태에 따라 A-G군으로 나누고 각각의 염색체를 1부터 22까지 번호를 매겨 표시한다. 염색체는 수천 개의 유전자로서 형성되며, 이 유전자는 개체의 성장과 발육에 매우 중요하다. 말하자면, 이 유전자는 신체의 발달 기능에 사용되는 지령을 조직화하는 컴퓨터와 같은 것이다.한 생명의 시작은 정자의 23개 염색체, 난자의 23개의 염색체가 결합한 46개의 염색체로 된 하나의 수정란에서 부터이며, 이 수정란은 세포분열을 통해 그 수를 배가해 나간다. 따라서 염색체에 문재가 생기는 첫 번째 세포분열에서 생길 수 있다. 즉, 임신된 순간부터 문제는 시작된다고 볼 수 있다.3) 다운증후군에서 나타나는 염색체의 이상여러 염색체 중에서 21번째 염색체에 이상이 다운증후군에게 나타난다. 다운증후군의 95%는 21번째 염색체를 보통 정상인보다 하나 더 가지게 된다. 이 경우에 한 세포내에 46개가 아닌 47개의 염색체를 가진다.두 번째로, 다운증후군의 4% 정도는 21번째 염색체가 끊어져 그 긴 부분이 다른 염색체의 말단에 달라붙을 때, 즉 21번째 염색체가 다른 염색체와 부분적으로 자리를 바꿨을 때 발생한다. 전문용어로 전좌형 다운증후군이라고 한다.세 번째로 다운증후군의 1%는 초기에 세포분열의 잘못으로 어떤 세포는 47개의 염색체를 가지고 또 다른 세포는 정상적인 염색체를 가져서, 마치 정상과 이상 세포를 모자이크 해놓은 것 같은 세포분열 형태를 보이는 모자이크 형을 보인다. 이런 아동들은 다운증후군의 특징을 보다 덜 가지며 지능적인 발전도 다른 다운증후군987년 우리나라의 조사를 보면, 1,104명 출산 당 1명 정도로 다운증후군이 출생된다고 한다. 세계적으로 볼 때, 이정도의 수치라면 희귀한 병이라고 할 수 없음에도 불구하고, 주변에 다운증후군인 사람을 볼 기회가 거의 없는 것을 보면, 그들을 외면하는 세상과, 세상을 두려워하는 그들의 모습이 느껴져 씁쓸하다.5) Moi, je ne sais pas ou je suis ne. Je crois c'etait en Mongolie.영화가 시작할 때, 조지는 기초적인 영어를 떠듬떠듬 따라하면서,“미국에서 태어난 사람은 영어를 한다. 나는 내가 어디서 태어났는지 모른다. 아마도 몽고에서 태어났을 거라고 생각한다. (Ce qui sont ne en Amerique parlent anglais. Moi, je ne sais pas ou je suis ne. Je crois c'etait en Mongolie.)”라고 말한다. 이쯤에서 사람들은 조지가 다운증후군일지도 모른다는 생각을 할 것이다. 아이들이 자신들의 부모를 닮는 것은 당연한 일이지만, 다운증후군을 앓고 있는 사람들은 그들만의 특징이 있다.머리는 대체로 정상아보다 작고 뒷머리가 약간 납작하다. 얼굴은 대체로 편편하게 보이는데 이는 코뼈가 잘 발달되지 않아서 콧날이 낮고 코가 작고 코 길이가 짧기 때문이다. 눈은 가장자리가 약간 위로 올라갔고 눈 안쪽 가장자리는 접혀 있는 경우가 있다. 눈과 눈 사이는 조금 떨어져 있으며 눈동자 주위에는 하얀 작은 반점이 있기도 하다. 다른 사람들보다 근시나 원시도 많이 있고 백내장이나 사시도 흔히 있다. 귀는 대체로 작고 귓바퀴 윗부분이 접혀 있으며, 귀의 폭도 좁고 중이염이나 물이 흐르는 일도 흔히 있어 듣는데 약간 지장을 가져오기도 한다. 입은 보통 벌리고 있어서 혀가 약간 나오게 되며, 입안은 작고 입천장은 좁다. 목소리는 소아기 때부터 다소 저음을 나타내며, 말의 시작은 일반적으로 늦고, 발음이 불명확한 경우도 많다. 목은 대체로 짧으며, 아동시절에는 뒷목에 약간 주름 사용하기도 했다. 발가락은 보통 짧고 첫째 발가락과 둘째 발가락 사이가 많이 벌어져 있다. 피부는 보통 깨끗하나 아동기에는 얼룩져 보이기도 하고, 추운 겨울에는 피부가 건조해져서 다른 아동들보다 잘 튼다.6) 설상가상 - 건강도 좋지 않은 다운증후군 환자들다운증후군을 앓고 있는 사람들은 심장. 장. 항문. 식도. 입 등에 태어날 때부터 이상이 있는 경우가 있다. 특히 선천성 심장병은 30 -40%로 그 빈도가 배우 높게 나타나며, 때로는 폐렴으로 발전하기도 한다. 보통 급성으로 2,3세 까지에서 1%의 아동에게 백혈병이 발생하는데, 이 시기가 지나면 발생률이 낮아진다.또한, 다운증후군 환자들은 세균이나 바이러스로 인하여 일어나는 감염증(예를 들면 폐렴, 기관지염 등)에 대한 저항력 즉 면역성이 보통 아동에 비하여 약하다고 할 수 있다. 악성 빈혈도 걸리기 쉽기 때문에, 안색이 나쁘거나 코에서 피가 나거나 또는 피하출혈 등의 출혈증상이 나타나기도 하며, 원인을 알 수 없는 발열 등의 증상을 보이기도 한다.문득, 조지의 초콜릿 알레르기도 몸의 면역체계가 약해서 생긴 병은 아닐까 하는 생각이 든다. 자신이 초콜릿 알레르기임에도 불구하고, 아리의 집에 처음 갔을 때, 눈앞에 놓인 초콜릿을 먹는 그가 안타깝다.7) 짧은 수명, 그들에게는 어쩌면 다행일 수도 있는...과거에는 많은 다운증후군 아동이 태어난 지 2년 이내에 사망했지만, 최근에는 반수 이상이 이 시기를 무사히 넘기고 있다. 환자들에게 있어 심장발달의 결함은 사망의 주요원인인데, 이는 생후 1년 내에 사망원인의 2/3정도가 된다. 다운증후군은, 그 후 2세부터 약 40세까지는 정상인들과 비슷한 사망률을 보이나, 그 후로는 사망률이 상승하기 시작한다. 이는 성인 이 되면 그들을 에워싸고 있는 환경이나 그 연령층에 나타나는 질병 등등 여러 가지 문제에 영향을 쉽게 받기 때문인 듯 하다. 환자들에게 있어 사망의 잠재적인 원인으로는 호흡기 감염증이나, 폐렴, 폐질환 등이 있다. 또한 보통 사람보다 빨리 노화가 진행레르기-조지가 갖고 있는 또 다른-사소하다고 볼 수 있는- 질병이다. 그가 초콜릿이 주는 행복을 누릴 수 없다는 것은 그가 인생의 행복을 누릴 수 없다는 것을 의미하는 것처럼 보인다. 사실, 정상인의 시각으로 볼 때 조지가 행복해 보이지는 않는다. 그에게 아낌없이 사랑을 베풀던 하나뿐인 어머니는 4년 전에 하늘나라로 떠났고, 그에게 남은 가족인 누나는 자신의 인생을 위해 남동생과 함께 살기를 거부한다. 사랑했던 여자는 그 대신 그녀의 부모를 택하고, 그에게는 이제 해리밖에 남지 않았지만, 해리가 다시 자신의 가족과 화목해진 모습을 보면서, 조지는 그곳에 자신의 자리는 없다고 느낀다.그러나 이 모든 힘겨운 상황에도 불구하고, 조지는 항상 웃는다. 물론 슬프고 화가 날 때도 있지만, 금방 떨치고 다시 행복한 웃음을 짓는다. 자신을 내치고 떠난 해리가 다시 돌아올 때까지 비를 쫄딱 맞으면서 기다렸음에도 불구하고, 그가 돌아오자 자신을 버리려 했다는 것은 중요치 않은 듯, 해리가 자신을 좋아한다며 기뻐한다. 그의 상상 속에 나오는 멕시코 가수의 노래를 사랑하고, 즐긴다. 이미 죽었다는 것을 알고 있는 엄마조차 불쑥 나타나 그를 행복하게 한다.타인이 보기에는 불행해 보이는 조지는, 마지막까지 행복하게 살다가 엄마가 있는 하늘나라로 간다. 해리의 행복한 모습을 뒤로 하고, 초콜릿을 사들고 빌딩의 옥상으로 올라간 조지는 인생의 달콤함으로 인생을 끝마친다. 참 슬프면서도 달콤한 죽음이 아닐 수 없다. 추락하면서도 그는 진정으로 행복한 미소를 띠고, 그렇게 행복하게 인생을 마친다.2) imagery - 무당벌레무당벌레는 조지가 동경하는 대상이자, 또 다른 조지라고 생각한다. 그는 아마도 하늘을 자유로이 나는 무당벌레를 동경하고, 자기 자신을 무당벌레에 몰입했을 것이다. 딸아이의 생일임에도 불구하고 어쩔 수 없이 강연을 하던 해리가 무당벌레를 보고 조지를 떠올리며 자신의 진정한 행복을 향해 달려가는 것에서 보면 조지가 해리의 인생을 얼마만큼이나 바꾸어 놓았는지 또한 덤으로 알 다.

[독후감] 폭풍의 언덕 wuthering heights (영어버젼) 평가A좋아요

So, I study about Emily Bronte who is the author of the ≪Wuthering Heights≫ more precisely. The writer of the ≪Wuthering Heights≫ which I have read very impressively is the sister of Charlotte Bronte who is the author of ≪Jane Eyre≫. Their passion for the literature was great enough to publish their collection of poems using their own money. They were pretty outstanding and capable. When Emily was three years old, her mother died of cancer, and she was brought up by her aunt with her sisters. When Emily was 6 years old she went to a boarding school run by charity, the Clergy Daughters' School at Cowan Bridge, where her older sisters Maria, Elizabeth, and Charlotte were already enrolled. That school was really terrible so the students were kept hungry, cold, tired, and often ill. Soon after, two sisters of Emily Bronte died of tuberculosis, and Emily also suffered from that fetal disease later in her life. Two sisters, Charlotte and Emily were taken home, but they would never forget the terrors and the hardship of their lives at school. Especially, Charlotte made it the model for the charity school Lowood, which figures in the life of her heroine Jane Eyre. So we can make a conclusion that the background and experiences of the writers influence literature.
