Wedding Celebration at Cafeteria“I have never seen a wedding as weird as this!” said Tanya Riddle, an Illinois State University student, majoring the health education.The dining center at South Side was decorated with white ballons and ribbons, welcoming the wedding guests. Students who live in a dormitory attended the wedding to celebrate young student couples.“I remember when I married my husband. It was exactly the same as this wedding,” said Gemma Hudson, a faculty member at Illinois State University. “Look at those beautiful couples! They look so lovely and seem to love each other!” She brought her family to the wedding because she wanted to celebrate her 25th wedding anniversary with young couples.The Student Association of Illinois State University planned this special wedding for student couples who did not have enough money for their wedding. Resident Assistants of South Side dormitory prepared all decorations and food for wedding. Many students donated for this special wedding.The wedding was held in the cafeteria of South Side dormitory from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11. According to the Office of Student Association of Illinois State University, there were over 500 guests for this wedding and seven student couples performed a marriage ceremony. “We raised about $5000 for the wedding. There is no doubt that this wedding ceremony is a very special occasion to young couples.”--more--“We are so excited to attend such a special wedding. We are really happy to be here and to share this precious time with many people,” said John Kang, who is a family member of one of today’smarried couples. “It is not like a wedding, but it is kind of like a festival. We all enjoy this moment.”There were performances to celebrate the wedding. Many international students live in International House, on the eighth and ninth floors of Atkin and Colby Hall joined to show their performances. “We prepared traditional wedding ceremony of each different country. Many students were willing to show their wedding cultures, and all students at the wedding enjoyed it very much,” said Frannie Heine, the international assistant of Illinois State University.The first cafeteria wedding ceremony was not just for Illinois state University students but for all the citizens of Bloomington and Normal.###

THE RADIO IS PLAYING. A taxi driver tries to watch Norah through the rearview mirror while driving.DRIVERI guess you are going somewhere really nice.NORAH(smile) Right.DRIVERWhere are you heading over?NORAHI will let you guess.The driver smiles awkwardly. Norah looks out of a window after her lips painted bright red. After a short, Norah starts to nod, the shot of the rearview window. On the other hand, boys tend to jump from topic to topic. They usually center around a time when they would do something together.The purpose of conversation also differs between men and women. Men do not talk to each other about their troubles unless they really do want a solution. On the other hand, females use conversation to be intimate with others. That is, they try to negotiate closeness and intimacy through the conversation. Talking is an essential step in order to be closer with someone and is the bond that makes women into strong friends. Therefore, being best friends means sitting and talking. For males, conversation is the way of negotiating the status in the group and is to preserve independence.Women create feelings of closeness by conversing with friends and lovers. Women like talk, talk, talking about their lives and random things. They have more dynamic ways to express their feelings. Males’ communication is much simple. They are not usually emotional. This presents the differences between how men and women think. Unlike males, women tend to think in terms of emotions and feelings. Men tendto think in terms of logic and reason.While I was searching Youtube videos about men and women communication, I found this video that is part of the show ‘Friends.’ This segment of episode shows obvious difference of conversation between men and women. When Rachel said, “Ross kissed me,” Phoebe and Monica were so surprised, and they tried to express surprise with gestures and words such as “oh my god.” They also questioned a lot about how Rachel happened to kiss with Ross. This is a sign that women try to intimidate with friends. Women want to share secret and private things with friends when they want to be closer with them.In contrast, when guys talked about the same topic, they were really calm. They did not ask about how it happened and why they kissed. What happened is the most important thing to men. When Ross said, “and then I kissed her,” Joey and Chandler did not ask about the details. One simple question just followed up. Men usually prefer to get to the point directly while women try to deliver everything happens for them.Overall, it was interesting to look up the difference between men and women. Women and men have characteristically different conversational styles and attitudes. While talking is a great to tool to share intimacy with friends for women, men usually take a direct approach and prefer to get to the point quickly.
