이에 쟈크리는 “I cannot let you go alone”이라며 크리스가 설마 다치기라도 할 까봐 동행하겠다고 순응한다. The Mountain is a movie that is made in 1956 and it explains how the people from 50s suffered from the confusion. It mainly shows the two characteristics and they are the materialism and the humanism. These two are expressed through the two main actors. Thackeray is the man with humanism characteristic and Chris, Thackeray’s younger brother, is the moan with materialism characteristic.Humanism is the ethical philosophy that affirms the dignity and worth of all people. Thackeray is a humanistic person because in the movie, he knows what is right or wrong thing to do and respects the worth of others. For example, saving the survivor from the plane crash is one of the humanistic behaviors. Showing respect and his infinite love toward his younger brother, Chris, is also the humanistic characteristics. However, Chris tends to be more materialistic on the contrary to his brother. Materialism is a form of physicalism which holds that the only thing that can truly be said to exist is matter. This means people with materialistic personality think that only money and goods are the ones makes them happy. For example, Chris asks his brother climb the mountain and steals money and other valuables from the dead people. This shows the personality of materialism very strongly that Chris’s only concerns are money and wealth. Unfortunately, at the end, Chris falls down from the cliff of the mountain and dies. This movie tries to show how people’s materialistic/humanistic personality can bring tragic ending. In my personal thought, if materialism and humanism becomes harmonized, that will lead our way to the happiness in life! ^^

Running head: THE EFFECT OF COMPLIANCE-SEEKING BEHAVIORThe Effect of Compliance-Seeking Behavior byUsing Plead or Nonplead RequestNameYour School Name, States (Country)This study discusses about how the word “please” can effect and change human’s emotions in nowadays society. The method of the study was to call the participants of 165 male and 139 female undergraduates from private, comprehensive university. These students was surveyed by 8 callers, who were trained to memorize the dialogue script by using same rate of speech, tone of voice, and urgency of the presentation to get rid of the confounding variables. Half of the students, both male and female, were asked to buy some cookies for donation, which cost 50 cents each. The other half were asked same question, however the only difference was that the callers added a single word “please” in order to request stronger compliancy. The result of this study was surprising. Based on previous thought, it was hypothesized that the plead rn), because “speech with please might have been too polite or tacked on the end of a request that does not need persuasion might made the students feel as though the compliance seeker were twisting his/her arm” (Firmin, M. W).According to the summary above, the author of this article provided good conceptual and empirical basis of his own hypotheses, because s/he gave his/her own experiment through a survey and reported statistical result for this study. The statistical result, plead request=65.3% and nonplead request=79% of 304 students (Firmin), however, was not accurate enough because the experiment was based on a survey, which means it might bring false concepts, ideas, or results as the experiments are tested among limited amount of people. And the most reasonable reason why this article is inaccurate is that the experiment of this study could be broader, which means there are a lot more ways to give surveys to seek compliance from others. For example, not only giving survey by phants by face to face. And according to Aune and Basil’s (1994) theory on perception of intimacy, compliance increases by saying ‘please’ when the relationship between requester and receiver are acquaintances. In addition, each person has different personality, thoughts, feelings, and actions (Vallacher and Nowak and Miller). This will bring individuals to have their own kind of response/reaction to the survey. Therefore, it is inaccurate to give the conclusion that nonplead request brings higher statistics. However, although the accuracy of this study is not that precise, it is still concise, informative, and clear enough that other researchers may replicate this article. The author has conducted a well-described methodology by using an experimental method. I could understand the purpose of this article clearly as s/he has described the method and procedure of this experiment well enough by giving adequate information, examples, and statistics of sample characteristics, and by following result of this experiment was obtained by adding the independent variable, the word please, to a control condition. The formation of these two brought the result of experimental condition, which is the unexpected conclusion of plead and nonplead request. My overall evaluation of the article is that even though the survey might bring false concepts, ideas, or results, it is still based on true experiment. Furthermore, it is good psychological research, because first of all, it contains good hypotheses, which tells that “the plead request would gain greater compliance than would a nonplead request” (Firmin). Second, the author used the valid references by giving examples of related articles and using right format of reference page. Third, s/he mentioned some reliable points by offering psychological terms such as independent variable and control/experimental condition, which is applicable for other researchers to look for some psychological information. Therefore, valid conclusions were , A. (2004). Say please: The effect of theword “please” in compliance-seeking requests. Social Behavior and Personality, 32, 67-72.Forgas JP. (1998a). Asking nicely? Running head: TWO PSYCHOLOGICAL DISORDERS FROM THE MOVIE “A BEAUTIFUL MIND”: SCHIZOPHRENIA AND PARANOID PERSONALITY DISORDERTwo Psychological Disorders from the Movie “A Beautiful Mind”:Schizophrenia and Paranoid Personality DisorderYour NameYour School Name, State (Country)“A Beautiful Mind,” which is based on the novel by Sylvia Nasar, is the story about the mathematic genius called John Nash. He enters Princeton University in the 1940s to start his studies in the fields of calculus and mathematical theory. He is very much an outsider, who does not much hang out with his colleague mates but only with his kind and outgoing roommate called Charles and his little nephew. Later on, John turns out to be a teacher at M.I.T and meets one of his students called Alicia, who is very smart, lovely and performs an important role as John’s wife. They get married with blessings of their friends; however, their happiness does not last long because later on, John is diagnosed as psychological disordere, which does not even exist as well. For, she makes a hard decision to send John to the mental hospital and this brings John, who still think everything happened so far is real, to disbelieve his wife. Even though, the story seems flowing to the tragic way, the real beauty of this movie starts after these previous events, because John realizes he really is suffering form schizophrenia by recognizing that Charles little nephew never changes although time passed by. John never gets rid of his imaginary friends, but tries to ignore them and overcome his symptoms. This was possible because he had his loving family next to him. Later on, he keeps moving forward as a mathematician and receives the Nobel Prize by his work.It is not publicly mentioned in this movie; however there are some psychological disorders that are introduced through out the movie that the main character, John Nash, suffers. Among those, the two major psychological disorders that one can obviously recognize are schizoage, thought, perception, affect, and sense of self” (2000). There are two symptoms in schizophrenia. One is hallucination, which means something one sees, feels, or hears that is not really there, and the other one is called delusion that means a false belief about something that one wish were true. The content of the movie, which leads the character to be diagnosed as this symptom is that the main character, John Nash, thinks that his imaginary friends and places really exists. For example, when he was taking a walk with his imaginary friend, Charles, someone suddenly attacked him and took him somewhere he has never been (actually, it is a mental hospital). When he recovered his consciousness, he meets a strange guy, who is suppose to be a mental specialist but John thinks he’s a police. Talking with this strange guy for a few seconds, John finds out Charles sitting at the opposite side of him and thinks he (Charles) is the one who betrayed him and take him to the police. Later on, hthey cannot trust other people. There are several symptoms of paranoid personality disorder. They suspects without sufficient basis, that others are exploiting, harming, or deceiving him or her and/or they are reluctant to confide in others because of unwarranted fear that the information will be used maliciously against him or her (American Psychiatric Association). The example scene of the movie that relates to this disorder is, as it is mentioned above, John becomes reluctant to believe others because he thinks his friend and even his wife betrayed him. Although later he figures out that he is mentally ill, he did suspect people when he did not know he was a schizophrenic. This movie portrayed the disorder realistically, because it is based on true story and real person. Even though the movie might be a little bit exaggerated, these kinds of symptom may occur when one person is really into a specific subject and loves too much about it that s/he cannot even help him/herself.REFERENCEis class are relevant to my life. Among those, I will describe two of them. One of the idea/theory is about the infancy and childhood. This is relevant to me because, when I grow old and become the age of having a child, the contents that I learned in the class about infants and children will provide me a lot of information. For example, when my kid is at the age of 2, I would understand whether they act selfish or not (egocentrism); because all kids have the stages they go through. Therefore, by using my knowledge of this idea, I would not make any mistakes on my child such as scolding them being selfish. The other idea/theory is about psychological disorder part. I think of this as relevant because by knowing all the symptoms of disorders, I may be prepared for the worst when I fall into some kinds of mood disorder. For example, when I fall into a mental depression, I might find myself falling into it and figure out whether go see a doctor does not help me get better from depression. GE 1
