    Advanced Composition and Conversation Assignment< Second-draft >In Korea, it is illegal for teenagers to smoke the cigarettes. Only a person of legal age can buy the cigarettes and smoke. However, these days many students smoke cigarettes illegally. The number of the smoking students is steadily increasing. While, less then 5 years ago, most of the smoking students were boys, some recent research shows that the as many girls as boys now smoke cigarettes. The situation is getting worse. The Ministry of Health and Welfare said, “Many Korean teenagers start smoking earlier than before with the average starting age falling from 15 in 1998 to 12.5 in 2006. The first-time smokers had got younger and their number grew bigger. One out of every five 18-year olds is smoking. The smoking rate had grown especially big among female students. In fact, it now doubled that of adult females.”(The Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare).There are several reasons why the teenagers start smoking. Most of tason that they get much stress by the Korean SAT. Especially most of the senior students do smoke for stress.To stop the teenagers’ smoking, several efforts are needed. Now, the more and more students try their hands at the cigarettes. However, they are too young to know about the bad effects of smoking and the people around them seem to do not care about it. There are many ways to prevent the teenager smokers from smoking. At first, the teenagers should know about the bad effects of smoking. The smokers can get severe illness such as lung cancer or throat cancer. A lung cancer is one of the most common cancers in Korea, and it is mostly caused by smoking. If a person gets a lung cancer, he can meet a slow and painful death in months or years. According to one professor of Health Education and Behavioral Science, “For lung cancer, the increased risks are much greater. So a man who continues to smoke until he dies is has 2300% increased risk of dying of lung cancer: I.e. he is 23 times they also have to survive and not be killed by one of the other common illnesses caused by smoking.” (Jonathan Foulds).Also, there is detailed explanation about how to smokers get lung cancer. Jonathan Foulds, Professor of Health Education and Behavioral Science, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), says, “Smoking causes lung cancer because the smoke itself contains known carcinogenic chemicals such as NNK. As these chemicals are deposited into the lungs year on year they cause DNA damage, oxidative stress and inflammation, which promote the initiation and growth of tumors.”(Jonathan Foulds).Next, some research shows that “Compared to nonsmokers, men who smoke are about 23 times more likely to develop lung cancer and women who smoke are about 13 times more likely. Smoking causes about 90% of lung cancer deaths in men and almost 80% in women.”(About.com: Smoking Cessation).Plus, throat cancer is another common disease which is caused by smoking. First, it is nece informing about the bad effects of smoking, it’s necessary to let them know how to quit smoking. Because of nicotine, smokers have difficulty quitting smoking, so it is effective to reduce nicotine. For reducing the addiction, there are several nicotine replacement therapies. The first one is a nicotine patch which releases a steady stream of nicotine into smokers’ bloodstream through their skin. A benefit of the patch is that it provides a constant stream of nicotine to the system so that nicotine levels in their system stay consistent throughout the day. The second is a nicotine gum which allows nicotine to be delivered to the bloodstream by being absorbed by the tissues in smokers’ mouth. Whenever the smokers feel to smoke, they can chew the nicotine gum because it does effectively reduce their desire to smoke. Also, it is effective to use cigarette substitutes; such as toothpicks, lollipops, chewing gum, sunflower seeds. Because the smokers’ bodies have become accustomed to the phto the teachers. In this case, the teachers should persuade them and keep managing their behavior. Another good way is to campaign for prohibition of smoking. For example, the school can do a lecture about quitting smoking. In the lecture, showing the visual materials such as the pictures of people who get severe illness; a lung cancer patient’s lung, a neck removed the throat, and the video clip involving interviews of dying smokers. If the school does campaign for smoking once a week or twice a month, the students will realize the danger of smoking and try to quit smoking.Fourth, every adult should help the students not to approach to a cigarette. For instance, supermarket should check ID whenever they sell the cigarettes. Also, if someone watched the smoking teenagers, he should call the policemen or utter a strong warning.If the smokers quitted smoking, they could get a lot of benefits. First they could be healthy. To put it concretely, their energy level become higher than before,.

    주거와 문화< 현대 주거문화 속 우리나라의 전통성 살리기 >현대 우리나라의 주거문화는 대부분이 서양식 또는 현대식으로 이루어져있다. 도심 속 혹은 수많은 거주지 사이에서 우리나라 고유의 주거형태인 ‘한옥’을 찾아보기는 쉽지 않다. 한옥에 다양한 장점들이 존재하고 있음에도 불구하고, 그것이 현대 주거문화에 효율적으로 적용되어지고 있지 않는 것이 현실이다. 그래서 지금부터 한옥의 특성, 장점에 대해 알아보고 그것의 현대화 방안에 대해 알아보고자 한다.현대 주거문화에 긍정적으로 적용될 수 있는 한옥의 특징에 대해 살펴보면, 첫 번째로 변화무쌍한 산과 강, 사계절이 뚜렷하면서 해가 좋은 빛, 겨울에는 서북풍이 불고 여름에는 남동풍이 부는 바람 등의 자연환경적 요소들과 획일적인 것을 싫어하고 그때그때 각 집마다 사정에 맞춰 개성을 충분히 살리는 것을 좋아하는 상대적인 국민성의 문화적 요소를 통한 한옥의 다양성이다. 우리의 전통 한옥을 살펴보면, 채 하나하나 마다 각각의 개성과 특성이 나타나 있으며, 어느 집이건 완전히 똑같은 유형의 집은 찾아볼 수 없다. 이러한 한옥의 개성과 다양성을 현대화 한다면, 현재 획일화의 문제를 가지고 있는 우리나라의 주거 문화에 큰 해결책이 될 수 있을 것이다. 둘째로 한옥은 바람과 햇빛을 받아들여 이용하는 데 매우 뛰어난 가옥구조를 가지고 있다. 즉, 겨울에는 바람을 피하고 여름에는 햇빛을 피하는 과학성을 보여준다. 바람은 여름에 유리하고 햇빛은 겨울에 유리하니 한옥이 친환경 주택임을 나타내는 이유 중 하나이기도 하다. 또한, 한옥의 사회적?주거문화적 가치는 한 채의 옛 건물이 아니라, 주변 환경들(문화,자연,사회)과의 적극적인 상호작용이고, 생태마을의 조성에 있다고 한다. 따라서 주변의 자연을 최대한으로 활용하며 조화를 추구하는 한옥의 가옥구조는 현재 정부가 추진하고 있는 저탄소 녹색성장과 가장 맞아 떨어지는 건축 구법이라고 할 수 있다. 앞으로 한옥의 구조에 대한 계속적인 연구를 통해 현재 주거문화에서 한옥의 에너지 절약과 친환경 지향적인 요소를 최대한 활용 할 수 있게끔 해야 한다. 셋째, 한옥의 통을 살린 배치구도는 곧 한옥의 공간적 특징으로 발전하는데, 물 흐르듯 막힘이 없는 구조가 그것이다. 이러한 ‘열린 한옥’은 거주자들 사이의 의사소통의 장을 마련 해 줄 수 있고 공동체 의식 또한 확대시켜 줄 수 있는 좋은 기회를 제공해준다.
