All of us have read thrilling stories in which the hero had only a limited and specified time to live.우리 모두는 누구나 아마 읽었을 겁니다. 아주 멋진 영웅이 아주 한정된 시간만이 남은 시간을 사는 이야기를 말이지요. Sometimes it was as long as a year; sometimes as short as twenty-four hours. 그 기간은 어떤 때는 1년이기도 하고 또 어떤 때는 24시간처럼 짧기도 했습니다. But always we were interested in discovering just how the doomed man chose to spend his last days or his last hours. 그런데 항상 우리가 가장 흥미로워 했던 건 그 운명의 주인공이 그 마지막 나날이나 시간을 어떻게 보냈느냐 하는 것이었지요. I speak, of course, of free men who have a choice, not condemned criminals whose sphere of activities is strictly delimited.물론 제가 이야기하는 것은 선택권을 가진 자유로운 사람의 이야기이지 사형수처럼 활동의 영역이 제한된 사람의 이야기는 아닙니다.Such stories set us thinking, wondering what we should do under similar circumstances. 이런 이야기를 보고 들으면 만약에 우리가 그 주인공이라면 그래서 그런 상황에 놓이게 되면 어찌 해야 할까를 생각하게 됩니다.What events, what experiences, what associations, should we crowd into those last hours as mortal beings? Now I’m living in Seoul, which is a large city. Therefore I have experienced the good and bad sides of both places. I think there are advantages to living in a large city, but there are also good things to be said for life in a small town. Personally I prefer to live in a small town in which the environment is much cleaner, and it’s easier to get closer with neighbors. Besides, I can enjoy life in comfort there. There are three reasons – transportation, natural, pollution.First of all, small towns have not well-established transportation systems with buses and subways. But this matter is not a big problem in the small town. Because usually the road have not many cars and also the distance not too far which is from town end to the other town end. Additionally, rural areas never have traffic jam. Furthermore there usually is not a lot of traffic on the street. Thus, according to these situations stress never build up. Rather, I feel more comfortable and keep my composure.page2Secondly, small towns offer better natural environment than large cities. In rural areas don’t have too many cars. Therefore I can get more fresh air. After I moved to Seoul, I wanted to do exercise. So I went to for a jog to the park near by my house. When I finish exercise, I felt a bit too uncomfortable. Also after I blew my nose, I saw the black nose because of the dirty air. I do exercise to stay my healthy. But at that time I thought that if I want to keep my healthy, I shouldn’t do exercise outside. When I lived in a small town, I never think that.Finally, there are less pollution and more contact with nature. In a small town, there are less factories but in the big city, there are many factories. Factories make pollution and many factories cause pollution than less factories. So small town are less pollution. Plants like the place where are less pollution like people. So lots of plants are in the small town and people who live in a small town can have more contact with nature.There are advantages to living in a small town, but there are also good things to be said for life in a large city. I prefer to live in a large city because of the convenience of public transportation , and a variety of opportunities for education and employment. Also Living in a big city has a positive effect because people canpage3develop their social skills as meet various people and can use a lot of facilities easily. There are many kinds of job in urban than a small town.In conclusion, people have different preferences about living circumstances. I don’t want to live in a crowded city. The difference between my life and my grandmother`s life Do you think society always progressing or changing? In some parts might be yes, but another might be no. Sometimes when you talk to people who are not that much older than you yet feel far distance to them while close and feel comfortable with people even they are much older than you. Likewise old things and new things coexist in society and people share those values. I interviewed my grandmother about In her twenties and realized how we are similar and also different. We are same in how we learned materials, and in perspective on entering college, but the difference is I could get private education by my parents’ support while my father couldn’t. Since Korean war has progressed significantly, in spite of the depression in1998, the number of middle class people also has increased. So they could support enough money to educate more their children. And I’m the one who is being supported. My parents were able to get a tutor since I am poor at math.

'위대한'이란 뜻보다는 개봉되기 전 '베일에 싸인 인물'이라는 느낌을 주려고 이런 제목을 붙인 것이다. 해설을 들으니 이제서야 수긍이 간다. 개츠비는 그런 캐릭터를 지닌 인물이었다. 제이 개츠비가 가장 중요한 인물이지만 책의 내용을 이끌어가는 화자(話者)는 닉 캐러웨이라는 남자다. 그는 30세의 증권회사 직원으로 차분하고 남의 말을 잘 들어주는 성격을 지녔다. 그는 뉴욕시 외곽 롱아일랜드 섬의 웨스트에그(West Egg)로 이사를 오게 된다. 개츠비의 바로 옆집 이웃으로 베일에 싸인 그의 과거를 하나 둘 벗겨 내는 역할을 하고 있다. 표면에 드러난 모습만을 보지 않고 상대방을 비판적인 선입견으로 바라보지 않을 때 우리는 남을 경멸하거나 미워할 수 없게 된다. 닉이 개츠비를 좋게 여기지 않으면서도 홀로 끝까지 남아 곁을 지켜준 건 어쩌면 그런 시각에서였는지도 모른다. 그리하여 위대한개츠비에 중요한 두 축을 담당하는 두 인물 개츠비와 닉의 변화 양상에 대해 알아보고자 한다.Ⅱ. 본론1. 닉과 개츠비 인물분석인물분석을 살펴보자면, 닉 (Nick Carraway)는 서술화자로서, 도덕적 심판자로 자임하며 자신의 존재를 독자들에게 부각시키지만 직접적인 개입은 가급적 배제한다.3인칭 관점의 소설 형식으로 주인공 "개츠비" 를 닉을 통해 3자의 입장에서 보고, 얘기를 진행하여 읽는 이로 하여금 관찰자로 이야기에 몰입케 하여 작고, 단순한 소설구도를 감정이입의 극대화를 가져오게 하는 효과를 얻고 있다.톰 부캐넌은 경제적 가치수단이 도덕적 윤리보다 우위에 있으며 위선적이고 또 오만하다. 폭력과 방종으로 사람들에게 다가가 그들을 파멸시킨다. 윌슨과 머튼은 하급계층이며 상류계층으로부터 가해지는 폭력 앞에 무기력하게 주저앉거나 타락한다. 윌슨 정비소인 재의 계곡은 동부에서 빛나는 초록불빛과는 반대되는 의미를 뜻한다. 개츠비는 감성적이며 이상에 치우친 인물이며, 그의 꿈은 본질적으로 미국의 꿈의 형성과정이며 미국의 이상주의가 드러내고 있는 치상과 실상에 대한 패러디이다. 그의 꿈과 이상은 역사적으로 평등한 자유 그리고 물질적 풍요의 신세계 건설을 목표로 삼았던 조상들의 꿈이었다. 댄 코디란 인물은 광산 붐을 타고 백만장자가 된 육체적으로 강인했으나 정신적으로 타락하고 방탕한 개척자이다. 울프심은 월드시리즈를 조작했었으며 비밀거래, 불법 주류밀매 등으로 돈을 모으는 도박사이다. 데이지는 개츠비가 이루어야 할 꿈의 실체이며 성배와 같은 추구의 대상이다. 이미 타락한 인물이다.2. 심리변화 과정 양상2-1.닉이 작품의 화자이며 객관적 위치에 있는 닉에 관해 우선적으로 언급하도록 한다. 여기서 굉장히 도덕적이고 꽤 괜찮은 인물로 그려지는 닉. 하지만 난 닉이 그렇게 도덕적인인물로 보이지는 않는다. 그는 그 당시 사회 속에 섞이지 않은 철저한 이방인이었을 뿐이다. 여기서의 요점은 못한게 아니라 '안'했다는 사실이다 그렇지만 소외된 이방인은 아니었다. 본인의 입으로도 말했듯 그의 학력과 가문은 당시 사회 잣대로 꽤나 괜찮은 평가를 받을 수 있는 이방인이기 때문이다. 결론부터 말하자면 이런 그의 특성을 타인의 삶에 깊게 관여하지 않은 채 살아가겠다는 철저한 개인주의적 성향으로 볼 수 있다. 초기 그의 대인관계에 대한 태도를 보면 설사 성가신 사람이라도 적당한 관계를 유지하며 관망하는 태도로 주변인들을 관찰한다. 이를 조금 다르게 보자면, 그는 누군가의 인생에 너무 깊이 관여했을때의 성가신-책임이, 상황이 피곤했던 것이다. 또 도덕적으로 문란한 상황에 묵과하면서도 항상 여지를 만들어두어 그속에 섞이지 않았다. 나름 엘리트코스를 밟아온,도덕적 소신을 가진 그는 그 무리속에 사람들과 같아짐을 경계하며 겉돌았다."I was within and withouts, stimulataneously enchanted and repelled by the inexhaustible variety of life"여기서 그가 repelled 됐다는 말을 통해 화려한 사람들과 함께 하고는 있지만 닉은 본능적으로 그들을 거부하고 있음을 알수있다. 이 구절만큼 닉의 이방인적인 면모를 표현해주는 것도 없다. 탐과 머틀의 관계에 대하서도 묵과한 그는 화려하고 혼란스런- 더러움도 가득한 파티장에서 타인의 삶에 관여하지 않겠단 자신의 개인주의적 성향을 여실히 드러내주었다. 그러니까 이 말이지, '너넨 너네대로살아 너네인생이니까- 내가 상관 할 바는 아니지, 물론 난 안그러지만' 이게 잘못됐다는 건 아니다, 사실 내 인생관과도 비슷하니까- 근데 나랑 비슷해서 그럴까. 난 왜 이 인물이 도덕적인지 모르겠다는 거다 그리고 뒤로 갈수록 핀란드 가정부, 유대인 울프심,길거리를 지나가는 부자흑인등에 관한 언급을 통해 그 역시 인종우월주의가 뿌리깊이 박혀있음을 알 수있다. 그는 최소한 인간으로서 하지 말아야 될 짓을 안 했을뿐이라고 생각한다 착한짓, 나쁜짓 이런 구분이 아니라 그냥 하면 안 되는짓. 덧붙이자면 그는 똑똑하다. 영악하다는 표현을 할까했지만 이기적이라곤 생각안하니까 그는 피곤하지않게, 인생을 살아가는 법을 가장 잘아는 인물이다2-2. 개츠비개츠비에게는 항상 끊임없이 노력하는 자세와 자신이 사랑하는 여성과의 만남을 위해서 열심히 일을 해서 돈을 버는 모습이 나타난다. 개츠비와 같이 경제적으로 윤택한 생활을 지속하지 못하는 사람들은 자신의 개개인의 노력을 통해서 현실의 어려움을 극복하는 모습을 보여준다. 부모님으로부터 유산을 물려받아 태어나면서부터 혜택을 받은 자들과 같은 생활 수준에 도달하기 위한 수단이 사회적으로 제공되어지는 것이다. 개츠비가 구체적으로 돈을 벌거나 경제적 활동을 구체적으로 명시하고 있지 않지만 금융이나 자본계통의 사업을 통해서 정당하게 돈을 번 것으로 추측해 볼 수 도 있다. 사랑이 맹목적이어선 안 된다고 생각한다.데이지에 대한 순정에 대응되는 개츠비의 상승의지는 단순한 출세 지향적 태도와는 조금 다르다. 개츠비가 데이지에게 끌리는 이유는 그녀가 부자라서가 아니라 고상하기 때문이다. 그녀는 부유하고 매력적이고 아름다운 집에서 살며, 무엇보다도, 그것이 그녀에겐 너무나 '자연스럽'다. 개츠비는 계급 혹은 신분이라고도 할 수 있는 그 간극에 압도당하고, 이윽고 그것을 쟁취하고자 마음 먹는다. 그리고 마침내 부를 얻는 데에 성공한다. 그러나 그에게 돌아오는 것은 의혹과 불안뿐이다. 디즈니랜드가 된 개츠비의 집에서 사람들은 그가 살인자나 밀주업자일 거라며 숙덕대고, 개츠비 스스로도 확고한 자신감을 얻지 못해 늘 불안하다.
