  • 정치에 관한 존 F. 케네디가 쓴 책 논문
Profiles in CourageBy John F. KennedyEnglish Book ReportSynopsisAs John F. Kennedy said in the first sentence, Profiles in Courage is all about the courage, “Grace under pressure” in the government. John F. Kennedy basically gave the readers an overview of the trials, pressures and other important things that politicians confront every time. Most of the citizens don’t know all the things happening in the government or maybe, they are not interested in politics since people believe that what Congressmen and Senators say are mostly lies. Through this book, John F. Kennedy informs that the Senators and the Congressmen are not entirely corrupted. It is because of the pressures they get from their responsibility for country. John F. Kennedy gives specific examples because he also had faced this reality in the government. There are three factors that made the politicians hesitate to do what is right. The first pressure is that Senators, politicians, also want to be liked by the people. John omise was the cement that held the Union together” said Henry Clay. Surely this will enable United States to grow bigger and bigger. Second pressure is that they want to be re-elected. Definitely, nobody would want to be fired when they endeavored to get a superior job. This also applies to the politicians. They don’t have the courage to be just and moral because they are afraid that they might not be elected again. This would not only affect himself but also the party, friends who supported him and mostly, his family. Last but not the least, politicians are concerned about the people around them. Senators have to be certain with their resolutions. It not, people could degrade them that they don’t have any skills. The courage is to neglect all the pressures and achieve the truth. Senators need to take the risk of being condemned and not reelected by numerous people. John Kennedy defines the courage as someone who is free to express what is right from wrong. A courageous politician arguthat I may never be governed in my public conduct by any consideration other than that of my duty.” When he had conflicts with Timothy Pickering, he as a Puritan gentleman went to Washington for solution. Moreover, John Quincy Adams said that “The magistrate is the servant not of his own desires, not even of the people, but of his God.” He did what was right in the eyes of his God. Since he knew that no one except God would know what’s best for everyone. John Quincy Adams did not please his citizens when it wasn’t right. Through this phrase, he declares that every magistrate has to follow God’s command. They should not be shaken by fame and wealth. Until the end, he remained a faithful servant. “John Quincy maintained the unflinching and inflexible bearing which became his Puritan ancestry.”Edmund Gibson Ross, 1826~1907, was born in Ohio and became a Senator in Kansas. During his time, the executive and legislative were fighting against each other. Unfortunately, their arrows went to t Lamar has the power to persuade citizens with his brilliant speech. He was liked and supported by many people. They would give a big around of applause of his speech. “He was a public man. No petty issues, no political trivia, not even private affairs, were permitted to clutter up his intellect. He was not only a statesman but also a scholar and one of the few original thinkers of his day. He was also one of the calmest, most reasonable and most amiable men in the United States, and quite unusual in social charm.” Through his luminous speeches, he was promoted into a Congressman then Senator. However, people began to denounce him when there was the Hayes-Tilden Presidential contest of 1876. Democrat Tilden was elected yet Hayes’ lieutenants couldn’t accept the fact that they plotted with the help of some of the magazine companies. This Government Issue led to Lucius Quintus Lamar that he is the traitor who would betray his party. He was considered a coward since people thought he coule quickly seen; it needs time and patience if the choice was right or wrong. Moreover, through the context, it is revealed that the three people had a religion mostly Christians. It was not really specified with Edmund Ross and Lucius Lamar but they all knew that God would help and save them from those fraudulent people. Since John Quincy Adams had a religion Puritanism, he would always ask God’s help, “His somber sense of responsibility toward his Creator he carried into every phase of his daily life…I implore that Spirit from whom every good and perfect gift descends to enable me to render essential service to my country…” Edmund Gibson Ross said this after the votes: “… though none but God can ever know the struggle it has cost me” and “I, not they, have sworn to do impartial justice. I, not they, am responsible to God and man for my action and its consequences.” Lucius Quintus Cincinnatus Lamar also said this during his eloquence: “…and upon which I have spent whatever ability God ng.

  • literary analysis on discrimination
Literary AnalysisI. IntroductionHistory includes many examples where members of one group of people deem other groups inferior to them. Such beliefs were used time and again to rationalize slavery and persecution of people viewed as inferior. A good example can be found during the ancient times (1000 BC- 1 AD), where ancient Romans viewed Germanic tribes as barbarians who were barely human (Kabasa 60).Through time, this has developed into something we now call racism. Racism, also known as racial segregation, is the separation of groups of people by custom or by law and prejudices. It is the belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities, and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race (Kabasa 285).While scientists have not found any scientific basis for this superiority complex yet, it is a known fact that people view other groups with stereotypes. Stereotypes are oversimplified, generalized, preconceived, and unfair beliefs were divided over the spread of slavery. In 1818, there were 11 slave states which the slavery was allowed and 11 free states which did not allow slavery. (Kabasa 136f-136g)Slavery became a major issue in the United Sates and during the time when Abraham Lincoln was elected as the President of United Sates of American in 1860. By fighting against the idea of slavery, Lincoln wished to empower the effort in North and weaken it in the South during the Civil War. In March 1862, Lincoln gave an idea for the gradual freedom of slaves which was to actually include payment for the slave owners. In April of the year, Lincoln finally signed the legislation which ended the slavery in the District of Columbia; it also provided funds for any freed slaves who wanted to move out to other free states that do not allow severe discrimination. (Kobabsa136g-136h)Finally, in September 1862, Abraham Lincoln gave a preliminary order to free the slaves permanently. It was issued on January 1, 1863 as the Emly lived with her father T.Ray. Lily longed for healing and acceptance because her mother, Deborah, is dead. Lily accidentally shot her with a gun when she was very young, and this traumatized her so much that she could not forgive herself. T.Ray was very abusive of Lily and that he looked down on Lily as a foolish girl. However, Lily was loved and cared for by her black nanny, Rosaleen. One day, Lily saved Rosaleen from hospital after Rosaleen got arrested for spreading her spit on the shoes of the white men they encounter in the street. Rosaleen and Lily escaped from the hospital through Lily’s sly tricks and head to Tiburon where Lily believed was the one of the places her mother went to when she was alive. They meet a beekeeper who was a close friend of Lily’s mother, August Boatwright and stay in her house. August allowed them to stay for as long as they want as long as Rosaleen helped May Boatwright, the abnormal, highly emotional and sensitive sibling of August, in the kitchen taossible, is actually possible.“It was foolish to think some things were beyond happening, even being attracted to Negroes. I’d honestly thought such a thing couldn’t happen, the way watercould not run uphill or salt could not taste sweet. A law of nature. Maybe it was a simple matter of being attracted to what I couldn’t have. Or maybe desire kicked in when it pleased without noticing the rules we lived and died by. You gotta imagine what’s never been, Zach said.” (Monk Kidd 125-126)During the setting of the novel, this kind of relationship was taboo because of racism. Nowadays, interracial relationships are becoming more and more accepted. In 1960, only 0.4 percent of all marriages in the United States are between interracial couples. In 1992, this number has increased to 2.2 percent. 21.2 percent of all these marriages are between blacks and whites. While this may seem like a small number, this actually means that there are 246 interracial couples (black and white) who married in 199-Jabbar (football player), Michael Jordan (basketball player), Muhammad Ali (boxing champion) and Tiger Woods (golfer, a winner of Master Tournament). Through arts, blacks have been recognized: Maya Angelou (poet), Alice Walker (novelist, Winner of Pulitzer and Nobel Prize). Blacks such as Eddie Murphy (actor), Michael Jackson (singer) and Oprah Winfrey (talk show hosts) are such examples of people who have become celebrities and have used their influence to promote change in black society. With these people, the notion that blacks are inferior has been eradicated because they now share the same education, rights and privileges, and opportunities with whites and other races. (Kabasa 136p-136q)In comparison to where “The Secret Life Of Bees”, Zach and Rosaleen were used to highlight occupation and job prejudice and injustice. Rosaleen was the symbolism for stereotypes on black people, while Zach was a personification of the blacks’ desire for change and equal opportunity. Today, these a2

  • `Aravy and flight` 책 논문
Comparison and Contrast essay on Araby and Flight.Generally both Araby and Flight talk about how a person tries and wants to be matured enough. In the story of Flight, the main character, Pepe travels as if he is already a man. That’s why his mother, Torres, and his siblings, Rosy and Emilio, had a ritual service for him as he prepares to leave and be a man. The narrator emphasized how Pepe wanted to be a man. Whatever bad things happened to him, he was tired and weary but he was firm as a man. To quote some, “Pepe rode on through the pass. His little eyes were nearly closed with weariness, but his face was stern, relentless and manly.” and “His face was blank, but is was a man’s face.” In the first place, his mother Torres never allowed his son Pepe to go a journey but she allowed him at last because Pepe insisted that he is now a man. Also in the story of Araby, the boy wanted to be matured as a man but in a slight different way compared to Pepe’s. While Pepe wanted to be a man as a strong, firm and masculine, the boy in Araby wanted himself as a man who can care and grand wishes of women. When Mangan’s sister was interested in Araby, the boy wanted to give her something she likes in Bazaar where he doesn’t like to go to. “We walked through the flaring streets, jostled by drunken men and bargaining women, amid the curses of laborers, the shrill litanies of shop-boys, who stood on guard by the barrels of pigs’ cheeks, the nasal chanting of street-singers, who sand a come-all-you about P’Donovan Rossa, or a ballad about the troubles in our native land.”Both main characters in the stories are not wealthy. The boy in Araby is not rich enough that he couldn’t buy something good and luxurious for Mangan’s sister. He only had two pennies left. Because he is poor, the environment surrounding him is also not that prosperous. His dreaming woman is also poor like him as she has a rusty bicycle pump and lives in unclean environment. In Flight, Pepe’s family has just what they need. They do not have a lot of money to buy whatever they want. They only have what they need right now. They do not buy food from merchants but get them from nature. Moreover, they were not able to succeed being matured. It is pitiful but the boy and Pepe failed in their missions. Because they persisted that they could make it, things went worse. In the story of Flight, if Pepe did not take the journey and realized that he is not fully ready to face difficulties, he could have survived and enjoyed his life with his loving family. Because he was so stubborn, he had to face so uncountable tortures in his end. The boy in Araby wanted to be acknowledged by the girl that somewhat he lost his confidence. “Gazing up into the darkness, I saw myself as a creature driven and derided by vanity, and my eyes burned with anguish and anger.”In the story of Flight by John Steinbeck the narrator used the third person limited omniscient point of view while in Araby written by James Joyce use the first person point of view. The boy in Araby dreams too much of the future all it be it cannot be happened. He keeps on dreaming and falling into his own world. He continues imagining about the girl in his mind while in Flight, Pepe has to face the cruel reality that is happening to him. He cannot have a minute to dream because he has to adapt himself to the world so that he can survive. The content of the story in Flight was kind of predictable because as the story goes on, dreadful events happened more and more. The narrator in this story used a lot of the word “black” which mostly symbolizes death. Majority of the things that he encountered was colored black. Even the hat and the coat from father were colored black. The narrator gives a glimpse in the first place that the journey he is taking is not really pleasant. Finally in the end, he dies miserably. On the other hand, in the story from Araby, it is predicted that the boy is going to be together with Mangan’s sister however the boy was hurt in the bazaar. It was the opposite of the prediction. Furthermore, the ending of Araby is not really clear. Was he able to buy something even a small thing for the girl? Or did he just went straight home and forget about the dreamy girl? While in Flight, the narrator concluded clearly. The author somehow dragged the story of Pepe dying and losing his power but in the end, the author stated that Pepe is gone now forever, dead.Commonly, both stories talked about being matured. Pepe and the boy have their own views of man like other people have. The view of man may be different to each of them but they all know that a man is matured, knows what is right from wrong, decides his way firmly and correctly. Pepe and the boy -ried their best to be a man but generally, both of them failed.

  • Kite Runner 책 논문 평가A좋아요
Comparative EssayThe Kite RunnerByKhaled HosseiniThis novel, the Kite Runner, is stunning as it shows Amir’s life from a child to an adult. The novel contains the desperation of Afghans including the innocent children. Also in the movie of the Kite Runner, it shows how hopeless are the people in Afghanistan. Both novel and movie show the preciousness and importance of friendship and family. At first, both novel and movie started with Amir as an adult wherein he answered the phone from Rahim Khan. He asked Amir to come to Pakistan to see him. The movie described the friendship of Amir and Hassan like the novel. Amir would read books for Hassan especially “Rostam and Sohrab” and tell his own stories to Hassan. They would go to the movie theater together to watch “The Magnificent Seven” and say the lines from it at the same time: “I admire you notion of fair odds, mister.” Moreover, Amir and Hassan both did their best in their kite tournament. Amir followed Hassan’s advice and in the end, he novel, the relationship of Amir and his father Baba was not really close. They were somehow ignoring each other while in the movie, Amir and Baba had close relationship as ideal father and a son. In the novel, when there was the kite tournament, the Amir’s purpose of attending it was to prove that he is talented and somehow better than Baba in kite fighting because he thought that his father Baba did not like him very much like Hassan. Therefore, he always questioned himself if Baba is really his father who would care and love him. The lines of Amir during the tournament shows how Amir felt in the novel: “I kept stealing glances at Baba sitting with Rahim Khan on the roof, wondered what he was thinking. Was he cheering for me? Or did a part of him enjoy watching me fail?...My eyes kept wandering over to Baba, bundled up in his wool sweater. Was he surprised I had lasted as long as I had?” Yet, the movie could not express the feelings of Amir. Therefore those who watched the movie coe. Baba being sick, took most of the scenes in America. In the novel, Amir and Baba could not live abundantly like they were in Kabul. They had to work to earn even a penny to survive in America. They appreciated living in Kabul. They realized how blessed they were to have servants and the best cars when they were working in a gas station. “I glanced at him across the table, his nails chipped and black with engine oil, his knuckles scraped, the smells of the gas station-dust, sweat, and gasoline- on his clothes…Baba missed the sugarcane fields of Jalalabad and the gardens of Paghman. He missed people milling in and out of his house, missed walking down the bustling aisles of Shor Bazaar…”When Amir married Soraya, they weren’t always happy like the movie. They could not have a child of their own. They did not know the problem so they had check-ups; Soraya and Amir even considered adaptation. “But a year passed and nothing happened… Soraya grew more frustrated, more impatient, more irritg cards over and over again with small talks. That is when Amir found out that Thomas and Betty Caldwell did not exist. Rahim Khan said that Amir just had to save Sohrab from the orphanage and bring him to Thomas and Betty Caldwell who care for orphans. Through the letter, Rahim Khan revealed the truth and Baba’s previous feelings of Amir and Hassan. “…Amir jan, I know how hard your father was on you when you were growing up. I saw you suffered and yearned for his affections, and my heart bled for you. But your father was a man torn between two halves, Amir jan: you and Hassan. He loved you both, but he could not love Hassan the way he longed to, openly, and as a father…” that is the time when Amir carefully decides to bring Sohrab with him. After he got well, he went to the American Embassy to get visa for Sohrab however, Raymond Andrews, the person in charge, couldn’t do anything because there weren’t any death certificates of Sohrab’s parents and the birth certificate of Sohrab. Therazingly, Sohrab recovered and they went together to America.Yet, these important events of the novel were deleted in the movie. Amir and Sohrab just went to America without any problem. Because of this, the movie was not able to show the strong desire and hope for both Soraya and Amir to bring Sohrab to the United States of America. The steps in saving Sohrab were removed in the movie and also the difficulties of Sohrab losing his parents, being raped and trying to commit suicide. Due to this, the characters were not really developed. In spite of many deleted scenes in the movie, both the novel and the movie had important events of the Kite Runner. It was great how the movie organized so many scenes to compile everything within just two hours. To convey the true meaning of the novel, the movie did not change any dialog from the novel but made use of it in the movie. To name few, there were “For you, a thousand times over.” said by Hassan and Amir “There is only one sin. And that is thefe.

  • a child called it
A Child Called ‘It’By Dave PelzerSynopsisA Child Called ‘It’ by Dave Pelzer is all about a child who has been abused physically and mentally by his biological mother. The boy in the story is actually the author of the book. The main character David had to go through so many unbearable tortures in a very early age. At first, his family had good times. Especially his mother, Catherine Roerva, was very submissive to her husband and children and she would always be kind and caring to David. Whenever they went to picnics, she would prepare a feast of fried chicken, salads, sandwiches and a lot of deserts; the mother would plan every detail during the vacation for the family to enjoy. The most memorable day to David was when their family went to Guerneville. “From above, I felt someone hug my shoulders. I thought it was my father. I turned and became flushed with pride to find Mon holding me tightly. I could feel her heart beat. I never felt as safe and as warm as that moment in time” However starved me for about ten consecutive days… Mother was completely thorough in making sure I was unable to steal any food. She rummaged through the garbage can every day before I emptied it. She locked the freezer in the garage with her key. Water was my only means of survival.” Secondly, David went through numerous anguish games made by his mother. “She put a bucket, filled with a mixture of ammonia and Clorox with me and closed the door…she wanted to try it. With the room sealed, the air began to quickly change. As I breathed in the fumes, I collapsed and began spitting up.” Third, she even forced him to eat the feces of Kevin on a diaper. “She slammed my face into the diaper and rubbed it from side to side.” Fourth, she compelled him to strip off his clothes and stand by the kitchen stove. “Mother reached over and turned on the gas burners to the kitchen stove…grapping my arm, Mother held it in the orange-blue flame. My skin seemed to explode from the heat. I could smell the scorchemine. I never responded, but I wondered to myself what they would think if they knew the real truth…Mother and I were the only ones in the house, and I could tell by the look on her face that she was after blood. After smashing my face against the bedroom mirror, she snatched my arm and dragged me to the car.” The mother was being careful before others because she was anxious about what others might think of her as. She didn’t want other to view her family problematically; therefore, she was pretending for others that she had no problem at all with her family. She didn’t wish to show the real side of her family; in fact, she hid it because she knew that it is shameful and wrong. For sure, abusing David was not justifiable explanation to these reasons. Just because she had problem with family, she couldn’t torture David at her own discretion. The pitiful thing was that father, Stephen Joseph, couldn’t do anything about David even though the father knew the situation very well. At first, on, the school authorities took an important part to save this boy. They were the ones who called the police. The teacher in school thought that David was the problematic child and that’s why he kept on stealing food and was scolded by his mother. However, as time passed by, they realized that David was going under child abuse. His clothes were torn and worn; he had bruises all over his body and he stank every time without food. If it were not teachers, David could still have been controlled by his biological mother. With their help, David was free at last. “You have nothing to worry about, honest. Your mother is never going to hurt you again.” First time when he heard that he was free and mother was never going to hurt him again, he did not believe instead it scared him more that his mother would come and snatch him away forever. Since he was a young boy, he did not believe any others because he thought his mother was more powerful compared to any others. David was afraid so he chose ew nothing can be done for him. “With no dreams, I found that words like hope and faith were only letters, randomly put together into something meaningless – words only for fairy tales.” Moreover, David did not believe that God exists. “I came to believe that for me, there was no God… no just God would leave me like this.” If he truly believed God as his Savior, his view of people and things could have changed. He wouldn’t throw his hope away; instead, he would grow more in faith that would enable him to love others in spite of his terrible situation. He wouldn’t complain about what was happening to him rather, he would look forward to having a better life with God. In spite of all ordeals, he would never give up on himself but look for better outcome after all this trial. It would have been a great delight if David knew that God is the greatest over all including his mother and He would give the best thing for David. When I read this novel, the first thing that came to my mind was that.
