Put Pressure on Drunk DriverDo you know how many people die annually from drunk driving related accidents? The statistics are probably far beyond your imagination. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), drunk driving deaths (11,7773) accounted for thirty two percent of the total amount of United Sates car accident deaths (37,261) in 2008. That means that one third of automobile related deaths are caused by drunk driving! The problem with this is that these are all accidents that could have been avoided. I think that the government should enforce inspection of driving under the influence of alcohol more strictly. This could be achieved through random roadblocks with quick blow tests.Andrew Kim, a student at Michigan State University was arrested around campus twice for drunk driving. I interviewed him to find out why he made the mistake of drunk driving twice. He said, “I’m very confident in my driving skills. I think that drinking alcohol has nothing t those mistakes, the police would have never caught me.” Such as this driver, many other drivers also feel that alcohol does not affect their driving. Unfortunately, this is not the case. According to the alcohol impairment chart from the National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information, people can drive safely with only a zero percent blood alcohol concentration (BAC). Even though the legal limit for drunk driving is a BAC level of 0.08 (about from two to four drinks), the symptoms of drunk driving reach an individual far before that limit. “A Review of the Literature on the Effects of Low Doses of Alcohol on Driving-Related skills” showed that people who drink within the legal BAC level also exhibit cases of impaired driving. The study reported that a 0.01-0.019 BAC level may cause impairments such as drowsiness, psychomotor skills, cognitive tasks, and tracking. A 0.02-0.029 BAC level may cause impairments related to choice reaction times, visual functions, and vigilance. The the influence of alcohol are also like Andrew Kim. If they don’t get caught while driving drunk the first couple times, it becomes a habit. They feel that their drinking capacities are far superior to others, so they can pass the permissible level of alcohol in the blood and still stay relatively alert in comparison with other people. All the interviewed people expressed very strong oppositions to the idea of drunk driving roadblocks. They said that the blow test had nothing to do with their driving skills. Most were under the impression the ability to walk in a straight line proved that it was okay for them to drive. Unfortunately, statistics from “A Review of the Literature on the Effects of Low Doses of Alcohol on Driving-Related skills” show that walking straight and driving straight doesn’t warrant a “safe” drive.A random inspection of drinking can be a remedy to decreasing drunk driving. During late nights, especially on weekends, it is more likely for people to go to a party ans when they drove intoxicated and were not caught. If people were subject to random inspections, they would be much more cautious about drunk driving.Furthermore, the United States is a very large country. The size of the United States requires a large law enforcement force. People against random roadblocks may take the stand that cracking down on drunk driving may cause a shortage of police officers to do other duties. In order to enforce roadblocks, police officers would be needed which might cause a shortage of police officers to do other tasks. This is not true, because very few officers are needed to set up roadblocks. In other countries such as South Korea where roadblocks are common, just one or two officers are present during the procedure.Although stricter enforcement of drunk driving may cause discomfort for many people, there are lots of reasons that demonstrate convincingly that people have to stop drunk driving. Even if the BAC of drivers is lower than the legal limit, it d enforce stricter laws about driving behind the wheel while intoxicated. It would arouse people’s attention to not drink and drive. On a last note, I asked !@# Kim if he would continue drunk driving if police started setting up random roadblocks to test all drivers passing through. He answered that he was not sure, but it would definitely make him think twice before driving under the influence of alcohol.Works CitedPersonal interview. 12 September. 2010.Moskowitz, Herbert. Should the Government Provide Health Care? This argument is an issue in my country now. Korea has had a government medical insurance system. It is guarantee a health care for all citizens, and it is a liability as well as a right of citizens. The new government is trying to change the medical insurance system like United States as the privatization of health care, and most citizens equally is not necessary to changed, health care of the government will provide to just part of the public. There are reasons for health care depend on government polices rather than private enterprises. Nowadays, in spite of developing medical technology there are some people who have not entitlements to medical care. The reason is that the people cannot afford to pay for therapy. Is it a good welfare for society? It is definitely a problem not only for individual but also for society and the nation.
The KissI think that masterpiece is a great work that touches people’s sentiments for over centuries. It must be a masterpiece that makes people to feel comfortable and be deeply moved by it, even if the art piece does not have great painting techniques or represent the art of the age. Masterpiece creates a sensation even for the layperson of painting such as me. In that sense, there are not specific criteria for possessing a masterpiece. It just should be proven by lots people through few centuries. I think, that is why some artists be recognized as a great painter hundreds of years after they died. The art works would be forgotten in people’s minds that just follow the trend of art of the age or focus on flaunting the techniques. The verifications are not clear, but I still think that there is something people to be moved. It is likes that we slightly assume the artists’ characters and the backgrounds of the arts through looking it in silence. The art works express various emotions ere possess it. There is the reason that the art fits the criteria for masterpiece in my view. Anyone who watches the painting for a moment would feel love. If the person watches “The Kiss” little more time with care, he or she would realize that Klimt loved the woman in his painting. The art lead some people into a whirlpool of emotion. In my case, fist emotion was love, and then I felt that the painting was sensual, erotic, and sometimes I thought that they looked sad. The painting may arouse some sentiments not only me but also others. I think, that is why the painting spreads in the world with lots copies. There is a guy who held his lover’s head tightly in his hands on the middle of the canvas. He tilts his head to her cheek for kiss. The woman holds one of her hand over the guy’s hand and grabs him around the neck with the other hand. She bashfully hunches her shoulder, even if she holds his neck. Her eyes are closed gently, and her cheeks and lips are slightly pink. While her facesmall flowers which are blue, light blue and white. He wears a gold coloured gown, and there are lots black, white and gray rectangles in the gown. The woman wears a gold coloured and circles pattern dress, and the small bunches of blue, pink and orange circles are in the gold pattern. The guy bundle her up in a gold coloured veil which is circle pattern from his shoulder to her leg windingly. They kneel down on the edge of the flowers and the edge looks like escarpment. The flowering plants are violet, blue and yellow. Her tows perch on the edge of the precipice. The background is just dark brown, light brown and some dots of gold. There is not figure at the background, and it is made of gold leaf. The art piece was made when the Klimt was in his highpoint; known as ‘Golden Period’ of his life. The rectangles in male’s gown represent masculinity, and the circles in female’s dress represent femininity on this painting. The veil which is hold them is phallic symbol in its shape, and it ameans finding his identity through understanding and respecting a female. The reconciliation represents ultimately as a kiss. Klimt tried to say the everlasting love through reconciliation between man and woman. However, it looks like just a dream that cannot exist in reality. The painting obvious expresses the love through reconciliation, but the sensation is not warm or rosy. The man in the painting towards his head against from the world, and he has a pale complexion. The women is also closed her eyes like closing the door through the world. The veil shines like a fleeting halo with their kiss. The figures in the painting are assumed Gustav Klimt and Emilie Floge, and it looks like described their relationship. Klimt did not get married his lifetime and had sexual intercourse with lots models. He loved Emilie Floge in platonic love, even though he enjoyed dissipated sex life with others. I think the painting shows that they want each other; however, it is unattainable love in realitt made me to have tastes in art. I love some passionate artists who are Vincent van Gogh, Frida Kahlo, Ludwig van Beethoven and Gustav Klimt. I have thought that the cruel lives of artists are the medicines to be awakening sprits for them. Some great works of are caused by undergoing ordeals, and I could know the senses from the moody, colors or just feeling. The reason why I choose “The Kiss” drawn by Klimt among the great arts was that I though the art work touches people’s sensations in many ways. The sense of emotion can differ depending on each individual’s viewpoint. I felt an eroticism the when I was a curious student in the middle school. The painting was located upon the stairs between second and third floors. I thought that the painting was too sexual to watch with friends. I felt a love when I watched the painting in high school. I just envy the women who was embraced in his arms, and I curious the sense of kiss to cheek. I felt a deeply sad in this painting since I experien
