Joon**Dr.**WRI-1100-G2/17/2014Car AccidentWhen people ask my parents about me, my parents say that I’m a person who is extremely strong willed. To help explain what they mean by strong willed, they sometimes tell a story about what happened to me in middle school in Korea. In the 8th grade, I was walking in the cross walks when suddenly a car came right beside me and hit my left side. My body bounced on the ground a few times. The next thing I remembered was the driver taking me to the hospital. I woke up in the car and the driver kept asking about my mom’s phone number. I tried to answer, but it was really hard. Finally, I arrived at the hospital and a few minutes later my mom came to the hospital crying. The only thing I could say was “Mom, I’m really sorry.” I don’t know why I said this to my mom, but I just kept saying, “Mom, I’m really sorry.” Then, I started to cry and say in my mind “why did this bad accident happen to me.” I blamed God because at that time, I thought that I had couldn’t even eat any meals because of my Hyperlink "about:blank" concussion. After I ate a meal, I would always throw up all of the food that I ate.My hospital stay was really hard for me because every morning I had to check the state of my eyes’ by going through a bunch of tests. Also, I could not stand, and had to always sit-down or lay down because my leg bone and pelvis bone were broken. It was really hard to stand and even harder to walk; It was even difficult to sit. A few weeks later, I started to stand and walk slowly. However, I couldn’t run and my left eye was still damaged so I couldn’t see out of it, everything I saw with my left eye looked black. Slowly, my body got better, but mentally I was not stable and had a sense of unease. After a week, I finally came home from the hospital. The Doctor told us that it would be fine to go back to my usual life, but I still had to be careful with my leg. It was not really hard to walk, but I couldn’t run or play sports. I was reallying will be okay. At that time I was really worried about my left eye because my eye was not getting better and seemed to be getting worse. So, I decided to stop watching television and stop playing computer games for a week. It was really hard because it was really boring at first. To stop watching television and stop playing computer games was a challenging mission because those are two of my favorite things to do during my free hours. Therefore, I decided to find another hobby that I could do during my free time. The hobby I chose was to read a book. However, I was not really interested in the book so I had to choose a different book. I chose a comic book. It was much healthier for my eyes and more comfortable than watching television and playing a computer games. My parents tell the story of my accident to show people how strong I am. It is often difficult to listen to my mom and dad retell this story because it brings back many bad memories and I often feel sad. However, it helps mwouldn’t. My mom and dad really helped me to learn to believe in myself, that I would get better, and not to give up and to keep trying to improve. This was really challenging for me, but everyday I tried to believe that I would get better. The accident changed my life. Before the accident my life was really boring and I had no will to study in school. I lived in the dormitory with other people during class hours and I always slept and talked with other students. Sometimes I was absent all day and I stayed at the dorm. As a result, I almost failed all of my subjects because as I mention before, I didn’t study and I didn’t even do my homework. At that time, my parents always said “Please study son.” To me it was tedious to study, so on the weekend, I always stayed at home and played computer games or watched television. I played all day long without doing homework. After the accident my thoughts changed. It became more positive than before. For example, I was really thankful for my healthmplishment is the impetus for my hard work and effort. Also, I’m very thankful to my mom and dad for believing in me.My accident made me realize that life does not always go as expected and that I have to be ready for challenges and surprises in life. So when my friends and family have problems I try to help them overcome them. Although only a few of my friends know about my accident, I try to help them with their problems by teaching them to believe in them selves and that things will get better. I tell them what my parents used to say to me. I say, “Things are going to get better. This is only temporary and tomorrow is a new day. You are strong and you can overcome this.” Sometimes I tell them how I overcame a problem similar to theirs. For example, when a friend told me about his problem with an online course I told him about the problems I had with my online course. Some of my problems were the same and some were different. I told him how I learned to believe that I could learn onlPAGE

  • Review of the Sharknado
Review of SharknadoSharknado is classified by its director, Anthony c. Ferrante, as a horror B-movie. The action packed movie stars Ian Ziering as the movie’s main character Fin Shepard who plays a heroic family man caught in an area and time of destruction. His scenes are action packed. This movie portrays Fin as an ocean side bar owner in Los Angeles, California whose bar was hit by a shark infested tsunami. He is shown as a responsible father and ex-husband that fights off sharks to protect his family. Willing to do anything to keep his family safe, he meets sharks face on as well as tornados.Sharknado’s special effects are below average even though a common gateway interface was used to attempt a real life presentation of flying sharks. Although some of the shark images in other scenes seem believable, for the most part, the results are poor when it comes to the sharks movements and overall presence. Most realistic are the tornado images that make you feel like you could be carried away by the storm at any moment. The music component adds to the viewer’s feeling of impending doom as the tornado approaches. Using the music elements of crescendo and faster tempo, the director creates an illusion of fear for his audience. The music is successfully combined with the special effects to build up suspense and have a powerful impact; however, these scenes are few.I didn’t like the movie. I have seen many horror movies in Korea, so I was expecting a scary movie, but it was not really like a horror movie. The movie was so disappointing because it was not hair-raising and the sharks’ graphic images created by the computer technology were not realistic. Furthermore, the helicopter scene where a bomb was thrown into the tornado was totally unbelievable and how could anyone believe that women would be eaten by a shark flying in the air. Also, how could anyone believe that the same shark would try to eat the leading male Fin.
