Absolutism- One of the two major ideologies practiced in Europe during the 16th and 17th century on, that strived for sovereignty. On the one hand, we have absolutism, where all power is under personal control. On the other hand, constitutional monarchies: laws are enacted by representative institutions that are legitimatized by the legislative body. Starting with Louis XIV (1643-1715) who, on the basis of the “divine right of kings”, ruled the people with the right from God.
Empiricism- Beginning in the 17th century and fully emerging in the 18th century, the scientific revolution brought about new ways of understanding the world. One of the scientific methods used were empiricism (or the general theory of inductive reasoning) which is a bottom up approach. That is, you begin with observations to formulate theories.
