1 Concept of stylometry
Stylometry, as a sub-discipline of computational linguistics, analyzes problems of style by using statistical and computer-aided methods. Computers have proved invaluable in dictionary compilation or lexicograph and grammar in the analysis of large samples of data; and information technology is widely applied in such areas as automatic speech synthesis and machine translation (Wales, 1989).
One popular study in computational stylistics is known as Stylometry, which is the investigation of features such as word length and sentence length in different texts to determine authorship.
Generally speaking, stylometry is the application of the study of linguistic style, usually to written language. In 1978, Morton defined stylometry as the science which describes and measures the personal elements in literary or extempore utterances, so that it can be said that one particular person is responsible for the composition rather than any others.
