현대 사회는 대중매체와 인터넷의 발달로 필요한 정보를 쉽게 접할 수 있게 되었다. 이는 원하는 정보를 편리하게 제공해주는 장점이 있지만 잘못된 정보 역시 검증되지 않은 채로 그대로 제공되는 경우도 증가하였다. 따라서 의료진은 정확한 정보를 가지고 충분한 상담을 통해 불필요한 불안을 경감시켜 줄 필요가 있으며 잘못된 의학상식을 바로잡아야 할 의무를 갖게 되었다. 본 글에서는 임신 중 산모들이 주로 하는 질문들에 대하여 보고된 문헌과 객관적 근거를 바탕으로 살펴보고자 한다.

흔히 접하는 질문들

요통
약 50-80%의 임산부가 임신 중 요통을 경험한다고 한다 (Mohseni-Bandpei et al., 2009; Mogren and Pohjanen, 2005). 요통은 보통 임신 5개월째부터 시작하지만 빠른 경우 약 16주부터 발생하는 경우도 있다. 임신이 진행되면 자궁의 무게가 증가하고 임산부의 자세가 요추의 앞굽음 (lordosis)을 더욱 증가시키고 복직근이 신장되면서 요통이 더욱 심해지는 것으로 분석된다 (Sabino and Grauer, 2008). 하지만 비교적 임신 초기인 제1삼분기에도 요통과 골반통을 호소하는 임산부들이 있는데 이 시기의 통증은 신체의 물리적 변화보다는 호르몬의 영향을 받는 것으로 추측된다.
