The East Sea and Dokdo Islets have been included in the territories of the Republic of Korea for more than a couple of thousand years, representing the spirit of Korean people. However, in addition to the constant attempt of Japan for acquiring sovereignty over the Dokdo Islets, the U.S. government recently indicated the Sea of Japan regard -ing the maritime affairs taken care of by the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO), causing a serious level of social conflicts. However, such an issue related to the sovereignty and maritime territory has been constantly dealt by the governments of Ko -rea and Japan for almost a century.
Both countries have provided different analyses and interpretations in terms of the data related to the old maps and recommendations given by the UN and the IHO. Re -garding diplomatic policies, it seems that Japan is in a better position, while Korea s -hows a greater level of legitimacy based on the historical facts and evidences. Even if the international society provides a variety of opinions, it is inevitable to consider t -he decisions made by such strong powers as the US and the UK to use the Sea of Japan as an official title.
Therefore, various social classes, including civil groups, government institutions and military organizations, need to consider the overall structure and system of effective maritime policies by reinforcing the practical dominance related to the use of the East Sea whenever it is necessary. It is important to consider the way of applying an elab -orate and combined measure as soon as possible.
