중학교 사회교과서를 통한 청소년 통일교육 관련 내용 분석 (Analysing Youth Education Regarding Unification through Junior High School Social Studies Textbooks)

본 연구의 목적은 2009개정 교육과정에 의해 개발된 중학교 사회교과서를 ‘통일’ 관련 내용 중심으로 특징을 분석하여 청소년 통일교육의 개선점을 제시하는 것이다. 이를 위해 교육부 검정 중학교 사회교과서에 대해 통일교육지침서(학교용)를 분석기준으로 내용분석을 하였다. 분석결과 첫째, 통일관련 내용이 매우 적은 분량으로 구성되었다. 둘째, ‘우리나라’, ‘한국’은 대부분 남한을 의미하지만, 북한을 의미하는 경우도 있다. 셋째, 통일 과정은 국제정세와 밀접하게 관련되어 있다는 설명이 거의 없다. 넷째, 지리영역에서 북한과 남한 지도가 별도로 제시되는 경우가 많다. 또한 북한 개방지역, 백두산, 비무장 지대, 동아시아에서 한반도 위치에 대한 서술이 대부분이다. 다섯째, 통일교육지침 중 북한이해, 통일환경 이해, 통일 정책에 관한 내용이 거의 없다. 여섯째, 통일문제이해는 분단폐해, 통일필요성, 통일편익에, 통일을 위한 과제는 교류협력에 초점을 두고 서술되어 있다. 통일을 위해서는 첫째, 북한의 정치, 경제, 외교, 사회, 문화, 지리 등에 대해 전반적으로 파악할 수 있는 서술이 필요하다. 둘째, 통일을 위한 국제정세 변화 및 협력 확보 방안 등에 대해 탐색할 수 있는 내용이 제시되어야 한다. 셋째, 통일된 미래사회에 대해 보다 다양하고 구체적인 제시가 필요하며, 통일 후 남북한 주민갈등 상황 등 극복해야 하는 과제에 대한 서술도 필요하다. 넷째, 청소년들의 눈높이에 맞는 통일을 위한 과제에 대해서도 생각하고 실천할 수 있는 서술이 필요하다.

영어초록

A purpose of this study is to analyze characteristics of the content in the social studies textbooks for junior high school students regarding North Korea and unification, and the other purpose is to propose some improvement factors in the unification education. The textbooks were developed during the 2009 Curriculum Revision and then approved from the Ministry of Education. This study used the standard of content analysis following Unification Education Guidelines (for schools). Result shows that first, the content within these textbooks regarding unification was very small. Second, in the most of the content, "our country" was defined to be for South Korea and sometimes it was defined for North Korea as well. Third, there was little explanation on the reason why unification processes are well related with international affairs. Fourth, it tended to provide the map of South Korea separately from the map of North Korea in a geography section. In addition, geographical explanations were overly focused only on open areas of North Korea, Baekdu Mountain, De-militarized Zone (DMZ), and the location of South Korea in East Asia. Fifth, the Unification Guidelines implied little about concerns on North Korea, conditions of unification, and unification policies. Sixth, unification was described only as related to the ruins of divided peninsular, justifications of unification, and advantages of unification. In addition, tasks for unification were described mainly in terms of cooperations for interchanging. The improvement factors should be considered as in the following. First, there need to be more general descriptions on North Korea's politics, economics, diplomacy, society, culture, geography and etc. Second, it should be described more about changes of international affairs and ways to increase cooperation for unification. Third, more detailed and diversified descriptions of what could be our future society after unification should be published, and information regarding conflicts and other matters between South and North Koreans should be treated necessarily to overcome as well. Fourth, descriptions that are eye leveled with teenagers should be added whereas they can actually think and practice on tasks.
