미군 교범으로 살펴본 2차 세계대전 군 체육 역사의 재조명 (The Historical Review of World War II Military Physical Training through the US Military Manual)

초록

본 연구는 2 차 세계대전의 미군 체육 변천과정 통한 미군 체육의 방향을 다음과 같이 확인하였다. 첫째, 미군은 과학적 접근방식에 근거한 군 체육환경을 구축하였다. 미군은 실험 접근을 통해 전쟁에 직접적 영향을 줄 수 있는 체력 평가 및 프로그램을 개발하였고 후대 군 체육발전의 모범을 보였다. 둘째, 미군은 1차 세계대전에 적용된 군 체육을 능동적으로 수용 발전시켰다. 즉, 미군은 1차 세계대전의 군 체력단련의 기본을 수용하면서 부대환경과 지휘관 특성을 반영한 맞춤식 체력단련을 개발하였다. 셋째, 2차 세계대전의 체육은 군 과업과 직결된 경향을 보였다. 미군의 군 체력 연구는 민간과 협동하여 시대적 상황변화 및 군 환경에 적합한 모델을 제시해 왔다.
2 차 세계대전 미군 체육을 수용한 한국군 체육 발전은 다음과 같은 정책이 필요하다. 첫째, 작전 중심의 군 교육훈련과 인사 중심의 군 체육의 이분화적 현상을 통합 관리하는 방식이 요구된다. 따라서 미군 교육과 군 체육의 유기적 관계성 사례를 확인하여 통합을 위한 정책 개혁이 진행되어야 한다. 둘째, 기존 한국군 체육의 한계를 극복할 수 있는 현실적 대안이 필요하다. 현재 한국군 상황은 국방예산 절감 추세로 군 체육 인력 및 조직 확대는 어려울 수 있다. 결국, 국방부 차원의 훈령으로 제도화하여 군 체육 연구를 위한 민군 협동세미나 및 공동연구 과제 실시 여건을 확보할 필요가 있다.

영어초록

This study confirms the direction of US military physical education through the US military sports change process of World War II as follows. First, the US military built a military sports environment based on a scientific approach. The US military developed a physical fitness assessment and program that could directly affect the war through an experimental approach and set an example for future development. Second, the US military actively accepted and developed military sports applied to World War I. In other words, the US military has developed a customized physical training that reflects the characteristics of the unit environment and commander, while accepting the basics of military fitness training in World War I. Third, the military sports of World War II tended to be directly linked to military tasks; the military physical fitness research of the US military has collaborated with the private sector to present models suitable for the changing situation of the times and the military environment. The development of Korean sports that accommodated US military sports in World War II requires the following policies. First, it is necessary to integrate the operational-oriented military education and training and the dualistic phenomenon of personnel-oriented military sports. Therefore, policy reforms should be carried out to identify cases of organic relations between US military education and military sports. Second, it is necessary to overcome the limitations of existing Korean sports. Currently, the Korean military is not able to expand its military sports infrastructure due to the reduction of the defense budget. In the end, it is necessary to secure the conditions for conducting civil-military cooperation research for military sports research by institutionalization at the Ministry of National Defense level.
