초록

이 논문은 1987년 이후 한국 마르크스주의 역사학이 사회주의 진영 몰락, 한국사회의 민주화, IMF 금융위기 등을 거치면서 어떻게 대처해왔고 그 과정에서 제기된 주요 쟁점과 과제들이 무엇인가를 다루고 있다.
마르크스주의 역사학은 1980년대 후반 현실 사회주의 진영의 붕괴 이후 많은 비판을 받아왔다. 마르크스주의 역사학에 대한 주요한 비판으로 생산력, 생산관계, 토대, 상부구조 사이의 상호관계를 너무 단순하게 파악하고, 총체적인 거시사를 강조하면서 미시사에 대해 소홀히 하고, 계급과 계층에 대한 이해가 경제적인 측면으로 치우치고, 역사에 대한 분석이 주로 민족국가 안에서 이루어지면서 세계와 민족국가 사이의 상호작용을 제대로 반영하지 못한 것 등을 들 수 있다.
그동안 이러한 한계들을 극복하기 위한 노력들이 국내외에서 많이 진행되어 왔다. 먼저 해외에서 진행된 극복노력들이 지속적으로 국내에 소개되어 왔다. 생산력, 생산관계, 토대, 상부구조 사이의 상호관계와 계급관계와 관련하여 E. 발리바, L. 알튀세, E. P. 톰슨, A. 기든스, A 캘리니코스 등의 이론이 소개됐다. 거시사와 미시사의 상호 조화, 그리고 다양한 인문/사회과학 연구방법론의 수용과 관련하여 E. 홉스봄과 J. 쿠진스키 등의 입장이 소개됐고, 민족국가와 세계사이의 상호작용에 대하여 I. 월러스틴의 세계체제론이, 그리고 마르크스주의 역사학의 유럽중심주의에 대해서는 에드워드 사이드, 인도의 서발턴 연구그룹 그리고 A. G. 프랑크의 『리오리엔트』 등이 소개됐다.
이 글은 이와 더불어 마르크스 역사학이나 마르크스주의 역사학을 우리 입장에서 소화해서 수용 발전시키자는 노력들을 소개하고 있다.

영어초록

This paper examines main trends, issues and tasks that have been raised in the course that the Korean Marxist history has coped with the fall of socialist bloc, the democratization of Korean Society and the IMF financial crisis. The Marxist history in Korea has been criticized greatly after the fall of socialist bloc: it oversimplified the inter-relation between the force of production, the relation of production, the basis and the superstructure, overemphasized the macro history and disregarded the micro history, analyzed classes and stratifications mainly in the aspect of economy, interpreted the history in perspective of the national state and Euro-centrism and did not accept actively various research methods of humanities and social science that had developed since the end of world war II.
The efforts to overcome these limitations of the Marxist history in Korea have been variously introduced into Korea. In relation to the force of production, the relation of production, the basis and the superstructure, E. Balibar, L. Althusser, E. P. Thomson, Anthony Giddens and Alex Callinicos were introduced. In relation to the combination of the micro history and the macro history and the acceptance of various research methods in the humanities and social science, E. Hobsbawm and J. Kuczynski were introduced. And in the course of overcoming the Eurocentrism, E. Said, the Subaltern Groups of India, A. G. Frank’s Reorient and Decolonial Group of the US and Latin America have been introduced.
The efforts to receive and develop the Marxist history in perspective of Korea have been also made. Debates on the historical law of Karl Marx in 1988-89 were the important trial to reconsider and receive the Marxist history in perspective of Korea. The critics of the post-modern history to the Marxist history make the Marxist historians reconsider some points that the post-modern history raised, but the post-modern history itself could not be recognized as a new alternative history. Recently new efforts to criticize the Euro-centrism of the Marxist history and seek the new alternative image of world history have been proceeding.
