저성취아의 성격유형에 관한 이론적 고찰 (A Logical Investigation of Underachievers' Personality Types)

초록

본 연구는 학습부진아를 포함하면서 자기의 능력보다 학습수행을 하지 못하는 저성취아의 저성취 원인 과 일반적 특성 및 성격유형을 고찰하였다. 특별히 저성취아 집단 내 서로 다른 유형을 변별해 주는 특징들에 대하여 고찰하였다. 우리나라에서 저성취아들을 위한 노력과 연구 프로그램은 대부분 지적 측면에 관한 것인데, 이는 저성취아의 낮은 학습수행을 지적 능력의 부족으로 보았기 때문이라고 할 수 있다. 그러나 본 연구는 저성취아들이 지적으로 저성취를 하는 것과 함께 정서적 문제에서도 찾을 수 있을 것으로 본다. 그들의 정서적 문제를 진단하여 해결하는 방안을 찾으려는 것이다. 저성취아 집단은 다양하고 서로 대치되는 성격을 갖고 있다. 저성취아들은 성취보다는 다른 동기들에 선점되어있고 이 때문에 저성취를 하며 동기들이 다름으로 해서 다양한 성격 경향성이 나타난다. 또 성격의 다름은 다른 치료적 접근을 말해주기 때문에 저성취아에 대한 진단으로서의 성격 유형의 변별은 저성취의 원인과 치료의 정보를 직접 제시해 주기에 일차적으로 중요하다. 본 연구는 Mandel과 Marcus의 저성취 유형이론을 중심으로 이론을 탐색하여 초등학교에서 나타날 수 있는 저성취아의 유형과 그 특징들을 고찰하였다.

The purpose of this investigation was to investigate the causes of underachievement, general characteristics about underachievers, and differential personality types among underachievers who do not perform academically much worse than their potentiality including poorly doing children. Especially, this investigation focused on the characteristics to differentiate underachievers into some typical groups.
The efforts and programs for underachievers have been mainly about intellectual aspects. That's because researchers and educators believe that undeachievement is from lack of intellectual abilities. But, this study prospects underachievers underachieve rather emotionally than intellectually. Underachievers group is rather diverse and contrary to one another in personality while overachievers and achievers group are similar and consistent. Individual personality is structure composed of motivations. Underachievers are occupied with different motivations other than school performance, so that they might underachieve. They have different types of personality according to different motivations. Different personalities needs different treatments. So to find out what kind of types they have is primarily important as a diagnosis for helping them, which suggests causes of underachievement and information about the treatment.
This investigation focused on Mandel and Marcus' theory of underachievers' types as a pivot and incorporate other researchers' studies. And investigation focused on some types which happen in primary schools and investigate the characteristics allowing parents and teachers to understand causes of underachievement and guiding ways to treat with their underachievement.
