Our country faces a society that is quickly aging incomparable to other world. What is worse, elder people in our country are more dependent to the younger generation in everyday lives compared to those in Western countries, due to greater physical vulnerability of the Korean senior citizens. Consequently, the extended lifetime of the elders requires that the existing residential environment change greatly. This study carried out a social examination of propriety for the construction of the residence for the senior citizens in the reconstruction and redevelopment areas of the local people. Questionnaire results of the survey of the local resident are below.
First, 73.2% of those questioned had intention to move into the residence for the seniors, or the "Silvertown," later on. Second, 78.3% responded that they will only consider living in the "Silvertown" if the government forces them to choose between the compulsory rental house or the "Silvertown" in the redevelopment and reconstruction areas. Third, the "Silvertown" in the redevelopment and reconstruction housing complex appeared to raise the resettlement rate of the original residents. Especially, the resettlement of the tenants showed high rates.
