방송사업자들의 유튜브 채널 운영 방식과 성과 분석 연구 (A Study on the Operation and Performance Analysis of YouTube Channels for Korean Broadcasters)

초록

본 연구는 국내 9개 방송사업자들의 유튜브 채널 346개에 대해 유튜브 운영 방식과 그에 따른 채널 성과를 분석하였다. 이에 본 연구는 유튜브가 방송 콘텐츠의 ‘새로운 유통 창구’이자 본방 시청을 유도하 는 ‘홍보 수단’으로 작용하고 있음을 고려하여, 유튜브 운영 방식을 ‘콘텐츠 유통’과 ‘채널 홍보’ 차원에서 검토하였고, 두 변인들의 세부 요인은 영상 종류, 업로드 형태, 정보 수준, 링크 수, 추천 채널 수, 커뮤니티로 설정하였다. 유튜브 채널 성과 변인은 ‘구독자 수’와 ‘조회 수’로 하였으며, 분석 채널들을 장르 속성에 따라 ‘오락성’과 ‘정보성’의 두 그룹으로 분류하여 채널 성과에 미치는 독립 변인들의 영향력 차이를 다중 그룹 효과 비교 분석을 통해 확인하였다. 분석 결과, 방송사업자들의 유튜브 채널은 방송클립, VOD ＋ 라이브 스트리밍, 커뮤니티, 링크 수가 많을수록 구독자 수와 조회 수가 높아졌다. 특히 웹오리지널은 방송 클립보다 채널 성과에 부(－)적 영향을 미쳤고, VOD 위주의 콘텐츠 유통 채널들은 라이브 스트리밍을 함께 제공하는 채널보다 성과가 낮았다. 이러한 유효 변인들은 구독자 수보다 ‘조회수’에 더 큰 영향을 미치고 있었으며, 장르 속성별로 비교했을 때 ‘링크 수’가 구독자 수에 미치는 영향 은 정보 그룹 채널보다 ‘엔터 그룹’ 채널에서 컸다. 반면, 조회 수에서는 독립 변인들의 장르별 영향력 차이가 없었다. 본 연구는 유튜브 연구 주제를 미디어 차원으로 확장시켰고, 유튜브 운영 방식과 성과간의 인과성 확인을 시도했다는 점에서 의의를 지닌다.

영어초록

This study analyzed the YouTube operation methods and channel performance for 346 YouTube channels of 9 domestic broadcasters. Accordingly, this study reviewed the YouTube operation method in terms of ‘content distribution' and ’channel promotion' considering that YouTube acts as a 'new distribution window' for broadcasting content and a ‘promotional means' to induce live viewing. The detailed factors of the two varia-bles were set as video type, upload type, information level, number of links, number of recommended channels, and community. The YouTube channel performance variables were 'number of subscribers' and 'number of views', and the analyzed channels were classified into two groups as 'entertainment' and 'informative', according to genre properties. Then, the differences in the influence of independent variables on channel performance were examined, which was confirmed through comparative group effect analysis. As a result of the analysis, the higher the number of broadcast clips, VOD+ live streaming, community, and links of broadcasters' the Youtube channels of broadcasters have more subscribers and views as the number of broadcast lips, VOD+live streaming, community, and links increases. In particular, web original had a negative(-) effect on channel performance than broadcast clips, and VOD-oriented content distribution channels performed lower than channels that provided live streaming together. These effective variables had a greater influence on the number of views than the number of subscribers, and compared by genre attribute, the influence of the number of links on the number of subscribers was greater in the ‘entertainment group’ channels than in the information group channels. On the other hand, there was no difference in the influ- ence of independent variables by genre in the number of views. This study is significant in that it expanded the subject of YouTube research to the media level and attempted to confirm the causality between YouTube operation methods and performance.
