가정 보육을 선택한 영아기 자녀 어머니의 경험 이야기: 선택 동기와 어려움, 보람을 중심으로 (Experience story of mother of infant child who chose in-home childcare : Focusing on selection motives, difficulties, and rewards)

초록

본 연구는 무상보육 정책으로 인해 영아기 자녀를 어린이집에 보낼 수 있었음에도 만 2세까지 가정 보육을 실시한 어머니들의 경험 이야기를 통해 영아기 자녀 양육에 대한 담론을 재정립하고 영아기 자녀 양육을 위한 다각적인 지원 방안을 모색해보고자 한다. 이를 위해 출생에서 만 2세까지 가정 보육을 실시한 어머니 4명을 대상으로 심층 면담을 통해 자료를 수집 · 분석하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 외부적인 상황으로 인해 가정 보육을 시작하였으나 그 과정에서 깨어난 모성을 자각하고, 집단 보육의 한계를 인지하면서 그 대안으로 가정 보육을 선택하게 된 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 가정 보육 과정에서 주변으로부터 이해받지 못하는 어려움과 교류할 수 있는 동료나 장(場)의 부재를 경험하고, 체력·심리적 소진의 순간에 찾아오는 딜레마를 경험하고 있었다. 셋째, 그럼에도 ‘엄마’라는 새로운 직업으로 인식하며 어머니와 자녀의 기질이 존중되는 삶의 방식을 찾아 많은 시간을 통해 든든해진 부모-자녀 관계를 느끼고, 엄마로서의 자부심을 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 가정 보육 활성화를 위해 자녀 양육의 다양성을 인정하는 사회적 인식의 변화와 가정 보육 시 필요한 교육정보와 교구의 지원을 요구하고 있었다. 또한 자녀와 안전하게 이용할 수 있는 지역 공공시설 확충과 주양육자의 의견을 믿고 지지해주는 육아공동체 문화의 조성을 기대하고 있었다. 이러한 결과는 무상보육으로 어린이집에 대한 의존율이 높았던 우리 사회의 자녀 양육지원 체제의 한계를 논의하고 영아기 자녀 양육을 위한 다각적인 지원 방안을 모색하는데 필요한 기초 자료를 제공하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

This study re-established the discourse on child rearing in infancy through the experiences of mothers who practiced in-home childcare until they were 2 years old, even though they were able to send their infant children to daycare due to the free child care policy, and a multi-faceted support plan for raising children in infancy. We would like to explore For this purpose, data were collected and analyzed through in-depth interviews with 4 mothers who provided in-home childcare from birth to 2 years of a]ge. The study results are as follows. First, it was found that in-home childcare was started due to external circumstances, but in the process, she became aware of the awakening of motherhood and, recognizing the limitations of group childcare, chose in-home childcare as an alternative. Second, in the process of in-home childcare, they were experiencing difficulties that were not understood by those around them, the absence of colleagues or leaders to interact with, and the dilemma that came at the moment of physical and psychological exhaustion. Third, it was found that, despite this, they recognized the new profession of 'mother' and found a way of life that respects the temperament of mother and child, felt a strong parent-child relationship through a lot of time, and had pride as a mother. Fourth, in order to vitalize in-home childcare, there were demands for a change in social perception that recognizes the diversity of child rearing, and educational information and support from school districts necessary for in-home childcare. They also expected the expansion of local public facilities where they could safely use their children and the creation of a child-rearing community culture that trusted and supported the opinions of the primary caregivers. These results are meaningful in that they provided basic data for discussing the limitations of our society's child rearing support system, which had a high dependence on daycare for free childcare, and for seeking various support plans for raising children in infancy.
