초록

Tourism demand is a critical index to measure the economic effect of the tourism industry. There are multiple internal and external environmental factors that influence the economic volatility of tourism demand and the effect of each factor differs depending on the destination. This study aims to examine the tourism economics of South Korea in relation to macroeconomic and various tourism demand related variables (Tourism Receipts, Exchange Rates, Index of Services(Tourism Services), CPI) from Jan. 2000 to Dec. 2018, controlling for dummies variables; this timespan such as SARS, MERS, and THAAD. The results of VAR and VECM showed that tourism receipts were a positive effect of the Index of Services(Tourism Services) and CPI. But tourism receipts were not susceptible to changes in exchange rate, international airfare and hotel CPI. This suggests that South Korea is an attractive market for the tourism industry as the influence of economic variables are limited. The overall results suggest that managing index of Services is crucial for higher tourism receipts.
