미술교육 관점에서 디자인 씽킹에 대한 비판적 고찰 (A Critical Consideration on Design Thinking from the Perspective of Art Education)

초록

사회의 다각적 변화와 맞물려 미술이 아닌 타 분야에서 디자인 씽킹(design thinking)을 동력으로 하는 혁신적인 사고에 대한 관심이 고조되고 있다. 본 연구는 디자인 분야의 디자인 씽킹과 타 분야에서 바라본 디자인 씽킹과의 차이점이 무엇이며, 미술교육에서는 이를 어떻게 바라볼 것인가에 대한 고민에서 출발하였다. 이에 본 연구는 디자인 씽킹의 역사 및 개념, 동향 등을 살펴보고, 미술교육 관점에서 디자인 씽킹을 분석하는 데 중점을 두었다. 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 타 분야의 디자인 씽킹에서 주요하게 논의되는 혁신적 사고 및 공감은 디자인 분야의 디자인 씽킹이 지닌 고유 특질로서, 새로운 것이 아님을 확인하였다. 또한 디자인 씽킹이라는 직접적인 용어 사용을 하지 않았을 뿐 미술교육 분야에서도 이의 개념 및 방법은 꾸준히 강조되어 온 것을 교과서 분석을 통해 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 타 분야의 디자인 씽킹에서 강조하는 ‘인간 중심’은 경제적인 목적 위주로 사용되고 있기 때문에 앞으로는 어느 분야에서건 디자인 씽킹을 적용할 때에는 인간 이해 및 인간 중심의 본질에 중점을 두어야 한다는 것이다. 셋째, 디자인 씽킹 절차에서 중요한 것은 자기 자신의 삶에서 문제를 발견하는 사고 과정이어야 하며, 결과보다는 과정 중심으로 접근해야 한다는 것이다. 이와 같은 고찰을 바탕으로 디자인 분야의 고유한 디자인 씽킹을 ‘1세대 디자인 씽킹’, 기업 등 타 분야에서 활용하는 디자인 씽킹을 ‘2세대 디자인 씽킹’으로 구분하였으며, 미술의 본질적 가치를 바탕으로 우리 삶 속에서 문제를 발견하고 모든 인간을 위해 혁신을 추구하며 실천하는 과정 중심의 사고과정을 ‘3세대 디자인 씽킹’으로 명명하고, 앞으로 어느 분야에서건 디자인 씽킹을 적용함에 있어 3세대 디자인 씽킹을 지향해 나갈 것을 제안하였다.

영어초록

There is a growing interest in innovative thinking that is driven by design thinking in other fields, not art, in line with the multifaceted changes in society. The purpose of this study is to clarify the difference between design thinking in design field and design thinking in other fields and starting from the question of how to view it in art education. Therefore, this study analyzed the history, concept and trend of design thinking, and focused on critical analysis of design thinking in terms of art education. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, innovative thinking and empathy, which are mainly discussed in the design thinking of other fields, are characteristic of design thinking in the field of design and are not new. In addition, the concept of design thinking is not a direct term but it is a central concept that has been consistently emphasized in the field of art education. Second, 'human centered' emphasized in design thinking is focused on using for economic purposes, so it is necessary to revive the human understanding and human-centered nature which should be considered important in design thinking. Third, the important thing in the design thinking process is that it must be a thought process that finds problems in oneself and in one's own life, and should approach the process rather than the result. Based on these considerations, we classified design thinking in the design field as 'first generation design thinking' and 'second generation design thinking' as design thinking that utilizes in other fields such as companies. Based on the essential value of art, we have named the process-oriented thinking process of discovering problems in our lives, pursuing innovation for all human beings, and practicing it as 'third generation design thinking' and proposed to aim for third generation design thinking in applying design thinking.
