대학 글쓰기와 읽기 수업에서 활용한 MIE의 의의와 교육적 효과에 관한 고찰 - 네이버의 <지식인의 서재> 동영상 사례를 중심으로 (Contemplation on the Implication and Educational Effect of MIE Utilized in Writing and Reading Class of the University – through Video Clips of “Intellectual’s Library” by NAVER)

초록

본 논문은 교양교육 현장연구로 대학생들의 읽기와 쓰기 능력 향상을 위해MIE(Media In Education)의 하나로써 활용하였던, 인터넷 네이버(NAVER) “지식인의 서재” 동영상의 교육적 효과를 탐구한 연구이다. 학생들이 스스로 사고와표현교육에 대한 학습동기를 갖고 지속적으로 자신의 능력을 개발하도록, 대중적으로 많이 알려진 명사들의 동영상 텍스트를 보고 독서와 쓰기와 관련하여 서로의 생각을 나누도록 유도하였다. 이를 통해 “지식인의 서재”가 글쓰기와 읽기 수업의 교수학습 자료로써 유용성이 있음을 학생들의 강의평가와 수업반응을 통해확인할 수 있었다. 이에 본 연구는 글쓰기와 읽기 교육에서 “지식인의 서재” 동영상 자료를 어떻게 수업설계와 진행과정에서 적용해 갔는지를 수업에서 다룬 고전텍스트의 주제와 읽기, 쓰기로 구분하여 연결고리를 살펴보았다.
신입생을 대상으로 한 읽기와 쓰기 수업의 경우 대부분 주입식으로 정답 찾기교육에 익숙해져 있기에 자신의 생각을 표현한다는 점을 부담스럽게 여기고, 더구나 ‘교양필수’ 교과로 운영되는 상황에서 학생들의 자발성이 떨어진다는 점을알 수 있다. 이런 점을 고려할 때 수업과정에 학생들의 관심과 참여를 끌어들이고 심리적 부담을 덜어주는 방안으로 동영상 매체를 활용하는 MIE는 의미 있는시도가 될 수 있다. 매주 인터넷 강의실에 관련 자료를 링크를 걸어두어 학생이수업에 들어오기 전에 질문과 관련하여 먼저 생각해 보도록 유도하고, 수업에서는 필요한 해당 동영상의 일부를 선택적으로 보면서 각 조별로 자유롭게 토론하도록 하였다.
단지 명사들의 동영상만 보는 것에서 그치는 것이 아니라 수업 주제 및 글쓰기와 읽기와 관련하여 서로의 생각을 나누는 과정에서 의사소통교육의 효과를 높이는 매개체로 “지식인의 서재”가 기능하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 글쓰기와 읽기 수업의 효과를 높이기 위해서는 교수자가 일방적인 설명이나 가르침을 주는것이 아니라, 학생들 사이에 많은 대화가 오고가고 상호간에 활발한 토론이 이루어지도록 자유로운 분위기를 형성해 주는 것이 중요하다는 점에서 동영상 매체를활용한 교육의 의의가 있었다. 동시에 학생들이 지속적으로 책을 읽고 생각을 나누며 글로 쓰는 일의 의미를 발견하고 스스로 그런 활동을 하겠다는 결심과 실천으로 연결되는 방향으로의 촉매제가 되고 있다는 점에서 “지식인의 서재”를 활용한 교육적 효과를 실증적으로 입증하였다.

영어초록

This research paper is a study about educational effect of video clips of “Intellectual’s Library” by internet NAVER; as one of MIE(Media In Education)s, it was used to enhance reading and writing capabilities of university students by a field study of liberal arts education. As a professor, I induced students to exchange their thoughts by seeing video clips of famous celebrities’ reading experiences and writings in order to have students by themselves get learning motives about the education of thinking and expression and develop their capabilities continuously. With this effort, I could confirm “Intellectual’s Library” is significant as learning materials of writing and reading class, through the reactions during the course and lecture evaluations later. Thus, this research paper examines about how to apply the video clips of “Intellectual’s Library” to the design and process of the writing and reading class by separating topics,readings, and writings of classic texts handled during the course.
In case of reading and writing class for freshmen, they feel pressured for expressing their thinking to the writing, because they had experienced mere educations of finding right answers until finishing their high school course, and if the class of reading and writing is operated by basic liberal arts education requirements, I found their voluntariness to the class is relatively lowered.
Considering these facts, using internet video clips during the design process of the class is a meaningful attempt to draw students’ interests and lower their psychological burden. Related materials were linked to internet classroom every week inducing students to access and think it before the class, and during the class, each group had free discussions seeing some necessary parts of video clips selectively.
Not just seeing celebrities’ video clips but exchanging mutual thinking about class topics, writing, and readings, I could find it acts as an effective media enhancing the effects of communication education. In order to increase the effectiveness of writing and reading class, rather than professor’s unilateral instructions or explanations, the professor should organize the atmosphere where students can have free and lively conversations and discussions: from this point of view, the class utilizing visual media(video clips) was meaningful. And further, from the point of catalyst that motivate students to constantly read books, exchange their thinking, find the meaningfulness of writing, and decide and execute these kinds of activities by themselves, this paper empirically confirms the educational effects of utilizing “Intellectual’s Library”.
