조선시대 도자기 그림에 대한 新解釋 -海中神山ㆍ三神山 그림- (A New Interpretation of the Paintings on the Joseon Porcelain : the Pictures of the God Mountain in the Sea(海中神山) and the Three-God Mounatin(三神山))

초록

동북아시아에서 神山은 불로장생하는 신선이 용ㆍ봉황 등 상서로운동물들과 더불어 살아가는 곳, 별천지ㆍ낙원ㆍ이상향, 혼탁하고 각박한현실을 벗어나 도달하고 싶은 곳으로 여겼다. 바다 멀리에도 신산이 있다고 여겼으며 이를 본고에서 편의상 ‘海中神山’이라고 命名하였다. 우리나라의 대표적인 해중신산은 세 개의 섬으로 구성되었다고 여긴 ‘三神 山’이다. 옛 先人들은 이 해중신산ㆍ삼신산을 찾아보려 하였으며 노래나문학 그리고 닮은 모습(造形 작업) 등으로 표현하였다.
해중신산(삼신산 포함) 圖像은 본 연구에 소개한 조선시대 후기인 18 세기에 만든 도자기의 그림에서처럼 다양하다. 그 중심은 섬(산)이고, 物 象으로 동물(새ㆍ사슴ㆍ거북이ㆍ어류(물고기ㆍ게ㆍ새우 등), 식물(연꽃ㆍ소나무ㆍ대나무ㆍ不老草), 태양(대개 산의 위쪽), 바다의 표현인 물결, 구름, 배(운송 수단), 집(누각 포함), 인물(신선) 등이 있다.
그 典型的인 모습은 부여 외리 출토 산수문전(도3)～(도5)ㆍ부여 능산리 출토 백제금동대향로(도1)와 符節처럼 연결되는 (도12)이다. 즉 바다물결 위에 경사가 급한 바위 절벽이 둘러있는 산과 그 산을 배경으로 동물(날짐승ㆍ길짐승)ㆍ식물(소나무ㆍ불로초 등) 등의 물상을 표현하였다.
이외에도 산을 원경으로 배치하고 그곳으로 갈 배를 부르거나 도착한모습, 산을 근경으로 배치하고 물상을 더 자세하게 나타낸 경우, 산은 생략한 채 뭍 또는 물 속의 물상 중심으로 나타낸 경우도 있다. 물상은 여러 종류인 경우가 많지만 때로는 몇 종류로 그친 경우도 있다.
우리나라 해중신산(삼신산 포함) 도상은 조선시대 도자기 이외의 역사문화유산에도 다양하다. 이 도상의 원류는 우리나라 신석기ㆍ청동기시대로 소급된다. 그리고 삼국시대에 이르면 공주 무령왕릉 출토 은제 탁잔(도2)(도2-1)ㆍ부여 외리 출토 산수문전(도3)～(도5)ㆍ부여 능산리 출토 백제금동대향로(도1) 등에서 보듯 매우 精緻한 단계에 있었다. 이 도도한 흐름은 (도12)에서 보듯 조선시대 후기인 19세기까지도 큰 변동 없이 전개되었다.
조선시대 도자기 그림 가운데 해중신산 圖像이 있다는 본 연구의 결론은 우리나라 도자사ㆍ회화사 연구에서 첫 주장이다. 이 논문을 계기로고려ㆍ조선시대 도자기의 그림을 고유의 믿음ㆍ사상ㆍ종교의 전통과 토대에서 탄생한 역사문화유산으로 바라보았으면 한다. 뚜렷한 근거도 없이 산수화(경기도 광주 司饔院 分院 일대의 漢江과 주변 풍경, 중국의소상팔경을 그린 그림)ㆍ정물화로 보거나 또는 불교ㆍ중국 중심으로 해석하고 또는 그 영향을 받은 것으로 판단하는 기존 학계의 잘못도 시정되었으면 한다.

영어초록

The icons of the God mountain in the sea including the Three-God mountain are as diverse as pictures of the porcelain in the 18th century of late Joseon which was introduced in this study. The center of it is the island (the mountain), and there are also things of nature[物象] like animals [bird, deer, turtle, fishes(fish, crab, shrimp)], plants (lotus flower, pine tree, bamboo), water waves, clouds, ships (vehicles), houses (including pavilions), figures (immortals) and so on.
The typical appearance (Fig.12) is very connected to the Landscape Design of Earthenware Patterned Tiles from Oe-ri, Buyeo (Fig.3)~(Fig.5) and the Gilt-bronze Incense Burner of Baekje from Neungsan-ri, Buyeo(Fig.1). In other words, the mountains are surrounded by the rocky cliffs with a sharp slope on the sea wave, and in the background of the mountains, animals (birds, wild animals), plants (pine trees, etc.) are represented.
In addition, when mountains are placed in a far distance, the scenes of calling a boat for leaving or docking it there are drawn and when mountains in a near view,the things of nature are shown in more detail. And in some cases, the mountains are omitted and only objects from land or water are centered. There are many kinds of objects, but sometimes several kinds expressed.
The icons of the God mountain in the seas including the Three-God mountain in Korea are also varied in history and cultural heritage as well as the ceramics of the Joseon Dynasty.
The origin of this image is back to the Neolithic and Bronze Age era. By the Three Kingdoms period, the Silver Cup from the Tomb of King Muryeong, Gongju (Fig.2)(Fig.2-1),the Landscape Design of Earthenware Patterned Tiles from Oe-ri, Buyeo (Fig. 3)~(Fig.5) and the Gilt-bronze Incense Burner of Baekje from Neungsan-ri, Buyeo(Fig.1) show very exquisite manners. As shown in the image (Fig.12), this fluent flow continued without any change until the nineteenth century, the latter part of the Joseon Dynasty.
The conclusion of this study that there are similar icons of the God mountain in the sea on the paintings of the Joseon porcelains is the first announcement. This result will lead to another angle to view the paintings of the Goryeo and Joseon porcelains as a historical and cultural heritage born from the tradition and foundation of the original belief, thought, and religion of Korea. I also expect that the misconceptions will be corrected in the existing academical researches, which are based on simple landscape paintings(the paintings of the Han River and surrounding scenery around the Gwangju temple in Gyeonggi province, Korea or the paintings of Eight Views of Xiaoxiang ,The conclusion of this study that there are similar icons of the God mountain in the sea on the paintings of the Joseon porcelains is the first announcement. This result will lead to another angle to view the paintings of the Goryeo and Joseon porcelains as a historical and cultural heritage born from the tradition and foundation of the original belief, thought, and religion of Korea. I also expect that the misconceptions will be corrected in the existing academical researches, which are based on simple landscape paintings(the paintings of the Han River and surrounding scenery around the Gwangju temple in Gyeonggi province, Korea or the paintings of Eight Views of Xiaoxiang , the southern part of China) or still life without any clear ground, and which have been interpreted focusing on Buddhism or Chinese influence.
