초록

이 논문은 모한 라께쉬의 대표적인 분단소설 「잔해(殘骸)의 주인」을 세밀하게 통찰하고 분석함으로써, 작가의 분단의식을 더욱 심층적으로 탐구하는 것이다. 그리하여 분단상황으로 벌어지는 비극적인 현실에 대한 비판적인 문제의식을 제기하고, 궁극적으로 분단 현실을 수용함으로써 분단의 상처를 치유하기 위한 화합의 의지를 형상화하고 있는 모한 라께쉬의 분단소설의 특징을 살펴본다.
이 연구의 이해를 돕기 위해 소설의 배경이 되는 분단의 참상, 모한 라께쉬의 문학세계 그리고 소설의 내용을 간략히 알아보았다. 그리고 본론 부분에서 분단의 비극으로 빚어진 부끄러운탈향과 귀향, 기억 속 추억의 고향과 갈등의 양상, 분열된 사회의 실상과 정서적 공유 등의 내용을 통해 상생을 위한 이해와 화합의 의지를 주제로 하는 작가의 분단의식을 살펴보았다. 그러므로 이 분단소설의 특징은 당시의 분단 현실을 수용하여, 지금도 진행 중인 적대적 대립과갈등을 포용의 힘으로 극복하고 화해의 길을 촉구하는 것이다.
분단소설은 분단의 비극을 겪은 평범하고 소외된 사람들의 고난, 고통, 불행을 반영하고 재현함으로써 그들의 삶을 탐색하려고 한다. 주인공 가니 노인의 귀향을 모티프로 하는 이 분단소설 역시 모한 라께쉬의 분단 현실에 대한 인식을 살펴볼 수 있다. 그의 분단의식은 분단으로인한 상처, 갈등, 원한, 복수가 지속되지 않도록 상흔을 승화하여 화해와 상생의 시대를 모색하는 것이다. 특히 가해자와 피해자의 입장으로 갈등과 대립이 이어져 온 분단 현실에 드리워진상흔을 치유하기 위해서는 상대의 아픔에 공감함으로써 인간의 보편적 가치를 추구하고 훼손된가치를 복원해야 할 필요가 있다는 사실을 가니 노인과 락카의 갈등 극복 과정에서 보여준다.
또한 이념에 대한 집착보다는 화합의 자세로 인간 다운 삶을 중시해야 할 필요성을 락카의 행동과 태도 변화를 통해 제시하고 있다.

영어초록

This paper explores the Mohan Rakesh’s consciousness of division in more depth by closely examining and analyzing his representative division novel, 「Malbe kā Mālik」.
Thus, we look at the characteristics of Mohan Rakesh's division novel, which raise a critical awareness of the tragic reality arising from the division situation and ultimately embody the will to reconcile to heal the wounds of division by accepting the reality of division.
To help understand this study, the background of the novel, the horrors of division, the literary world of Mohan Rakesh, and the contents of the novel were briefly examined. And in the main body of the article, The division consciousness of the writer who takes the theme of understanding and reconciliation for coexistence through content such as the shameful departure and return caused by the tragedy of division, the hometown of memories and aspects of conflict, and the reality and emotional sharing of a divided society. Therefore, the characteristic of this division novel is to accept the reality of division at the time, overcome the hostile confrontation and conflict that is still ongoing with the power of inclusiveness, and urge the path of reconciliation.
The division novels try to explore the lives of ordinary and alienated people who suffered the tragedy of division by reflecting and reproducing their suffering, pain, and misfortune.
This division novel, which has the main character, old man Gani's homecoming as a motif, can also examine Mohan Rakesh’s perception of the reality of division. His consciousness of division is to seek an era of reconciliation and coexistence by sublimating scars so that wounds, conflicts, resentment, and revenge caused by division do not last. In particular, in order to heal the scars from the reality of division where conflict and confrontation have continued from the perspective of the perpetrator and the victim, it is necessary to pursue universal human values and restore damaged values by empathizing with the pain of the other person. It is shown in the process of overcoming the conflict between the old man Gani and Rakkha. In addition, the need to value human life with an attitude of harmony rather than obsession with ideology is suggested through the changes in Rakkha’s behavior and attitude.
