해외소비자의 대체식품에 대한 소비자 인지도 조사 (A Survey on Overseas Consumers’ Awareness of Plant-based Meat)

초록

본 연구는 대체식품에 대한 인식과 수용성 여부에 중점을 두고 상대적으로 대체식품 시장 조성의 역사가 길며 시장이 확대되어 있는 북미와 유럽 소비자를 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하여 대체식품 수입의 현황과 발전방안에 대해 고찰하고자 한다. 이는 식물성 고기 등 대체식품을 수입‧유통하는 국내 수입업체에게 대체식품 시장이 발달한 해외소비자 인지도에 대한 기초 정보를 제공한다는 의미가 있다. 본 연구의 조사결과에 따르면, 식물성 고기 시장이 성공적으로 조성된 해외 소비자들은 대체로 에너지 절약 및 환경 보호, 건강 증진, 동물복지 문제에 대한 관심도가 높으며 식물성 고기 섭취 시 만족도가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 국내 소비자 역시 건강 증진에 대한 지불의사가 비교적 높고, 환경보호 및 동물 복지에 대한 관심도 증가세에 있기 때문에 식물성 고기의 수입 시장은 점차 성장할 것이다. 기존 축산분야의 온실가스 배출량과 식물성 고기를 통한 환경 보호 및 자원 절약에 대해 국민적 관심을 이끌어내고 인식을 제고할 수 있도록 정부와 지자체 차원에서 계몽적인 홍보 전략이 필요하다.

영어초록

This study focused on the perception and acceptance of alternative food, and conducted a survey on consumers in North America and Europe, where the market for alternative food has been relatively long and the market has been expanded. Through this, the current status and development plan of alternative food imports will be considered. This means that domestic importers that import and distribute alternative foods such as plant-based meats are provided with basic information on the awareness of overseas consumers in which the alternative food market has developed. Overseas consumers who responded to the survey showed that their self-esteem in ethical consumption, including the perception that they contribute to environmental protection and energy saving, and the perception that they contribute to animal welfare improvement, influences alternative food consumption behavior and future plans. Meanwhile, the domestic plant-based meat market is expected to expand in the mid- to long-term as domestic consumers are also willing to pay premium for health improvement, and interest in environmental protection and animal welfare is also on the rise. According to the survey, the most frequently mentioned area to be improved in order to increase consumption of plant-based meat was 'expansion of the place of purchase'. Therefore, when Korean companies enter the alternative meat market, they need to increase accessibility of consumers by considering the support of the distribution sector. Also, in order for alternative foods to successfully settle in the domestic food market in the long term, government-level promotion is necessary, and education on ethical consumption from infants and adolescents on greenhouse gas emissions and saving resources through alternative foods is needed.
