본 연구는 구조대응 이론을 근거로 유아가 관계 유사성에 근거하여 공간위치를 유추할 수 있는지를 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 공간과제 특성(사물 종류, 유추 조건)에 따라 4가지의 공간위치 유추 과제를 구성하였다. 연구대상은 만 3, 4, 5세 유아 125명이었고, 연구에 참여한 유아는 바탕공간(그림지도)에 있는 사물을 표적공간(모형방)의 같은 자리에서 찾도록 하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 유아의 공간위치 유추는 연령이 증가함에 따라 수행 점수도 높고, 과제 조건에 따른 수행 점수간 편차도 작아지는 경향을 나타냈다. 둘째, 유아의 공간위치 유추는 연령에 따라 유의미한 차이가 있었다. 3세 유아는 공간위치 유추에 어려움을 보인 반면 4, 5세 유아는 모든 과제에서 안정적으로 공간위치 유추에 성공하였다. 셋째, 유아의 공간위치 유추는 공간과제 특성인 사물 종류와 유추 조건에 따라 유의미한 차이가 있었다. 유추 조건이 상이조건보다는 유사조건인 경우에 공간위치를 잘 유추하였으며, 사물 종류가 단종인 경우보다는 다종인 경우에 공간위치를 잘 유추하였다. 본 연구에서는 바탕 공간에 배열된 사물 종류와 두 공간간의 유추 조건에 따라 유아의 공간위치 유추에 차이가 있으며, 공간위치 유추 발달에 있어 3세와 4세가 중요한 시기임을 밝혔다.

영어초록

The present study examines spatial location analogies based on the structure-mapping theory in order to reveal whether young children aged three, four and five are able to analogize based on relational similarities. The subjects for the study were 125 young children 3, 4, and 5 years of age and the subjects' task was to read the provided the base space(picture map), pick up the object from the location indicated on the target space(the scale room). The results were as follows. First, children's ability to analogize spatial locations significantly differed depending on object’s attributes and analogy conditions. Young children aged three, four, and five understood the relation between two spaces better when the object’s attributes arranged within the space was diversified rather than singular. This difference displayed differing aspects depending on the analogy conditions of the corresponding two spaces, with differences emerging in accordance with the object attribute when the analogy conditions of the two spaces were similar, whereas no differences, in accordance with the object attribute, appeared, when analogy conditions differed. Second, the children differed to analogize spatial locations differed significantly depending on their age. Three-year-old children were able to analogize the location relation between objects arranged in the space. However, the analogical ability of three-year-old children was at an elementary level, being affected by object’s attributes and analogy conditions. On the other hand, four- and five-year-old children were able to analogize spatial locations regardless of the task type. The study shows that spatial location analogies of children differ depending on analogy conditions between two spaces and object’s attributes arranged within the space. The study also shows that ages three and four are important for the development of spatial location analogies.
