중학생의 ‘미래 핵심역량’ 영향 요인 분석 (Factors Influencing the Key Competencies of Middle School Students in South Korea)

초록

본 연구의 목적은 OECD의 ‘미래 핵심역량 ’프로젝트인 DeSeCo의 모형을 차용하여 개발된 미래핵심역량 진단검사지를 통해 수집된『학교교육 실태 및 수준 분석 연구』의 2013년(4주기) 중학교 3학년 데이터(213개교, 13,246명)를 분석하여 우리나라 중학생의 ‘미래 핵심역량’ 관련 가정, 학생, 학교특성 요인을 탐색하는데 있다. 본 미래핵심역량 진단검사지를 통해 수집된 데이터는‘창의역량,’‘자기주도역량,’ ‘사회역량’으로 구성되며, 분석을 위하여 학생-학교의 2수준 다층모형 분석을 실시하였다. 첫째, 가정 특성 요인을 살펴본 결과, 부모-자녀 관계는 모든 하위 영역과 유의미한 관련을 보였고 문화향유정도는 창의 및 자기주도역량과 관련을 보였다. 둘째, 학생 특성 요인을 살펴본 결과, 자아존중감, 진로성숙도, 학습전략, 학습끈기, 수업태도가‘미래 핵심역량’의 모든 하위 영역과 정적인 관련을 보였다. 마지막으로, 학교 특성 요인과 ‘미래 핵심역량’ 간 관계는 다음과 같다. 수업분위기는 ‘미래 핵심역량’의 모든 하위 영역과 정적 관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 서울지역 학생의 창의역량 및 사회역량이 다른 지역의 학생들 보다 높고, 학교 내 기초학력미달학생의 비율이 낮을수록 창의역량 및 자기주도역량이, 교사의 성취압력이 높을수록 사회역량이 높을 가능성이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이상 연구 결과를 토대로, 우리나라 중학생들의 미래 핵심역량 제고를 위하여, 교사-학생 간, 교우 간 관계 개선 및 학교 수업분위기 개선, 학생들의 자아존중감 및 진로성숙도 향상과 부모-자녀 간 관계 증진, 독서 및 체육활동 경험 기회 확대 등을 위한 노력과 지원이 필요함을 제언하였다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to explore the individual, family, and school factors related to middle school students’ ‘key competencies.’ A theoretical framework is adopted from the OECD’s Definition and Selection of Key Competencies(DeSeCo) Project. The DeSeCo Project suggests three major components of the key competencies and those concepts are renamed as social competencies, creative competencies, and self-autonomy to be operationalized and surveyed within the framework of the Korean Longitudinal Study of Primary and Secondary Schools (KLSPSS). Student-school two level Hierarchical Linear Model(HLM) was conducted using data from the fourth round of middle school survey of the KLSPSS. In total, 213 middle schools and 13,246 9th graders were selected across the country. First, the findings suggest that parent-children relationship has positive relationships with all of the three sub-categories of key competencies and cultural experiences with creative and self-autonomy competencies. Second, among the students’ factors, students’ self-esteem, career maturity levels, strategy and perseverance in learning, and classroom attitude have positive relationships with all of the key competencies. Third, class atmosphere has positive relationships with every sub-category of key competencies. In addition, students in Seoul show higher creative and social competencies than those in other regions, and students in schools with less underachievers and stronger accomplishment-oriented pressure show higher social competencies. The analyses suggest that education policies that improve students relationship with their parents, teachers, and themselves(self-esteem), students’ attitude in classroom, classroom atmosphere, and students’career maturity levels and that increase students’ readings and physical education can improve students’ key competencies.
