중국 역사교과서의 ‘중국식 현대화’ 관련 서술 동향과 함의: 2022년 인쇄본 2023년 인쇄본 현행 중국 역사교과서 서술 사례 비교를 중심으로 (Trends and Implications of Descriptions of "Chinese-Style Modernization" in Chinese History Textbooks: A Comparison of Descriptions in the 2022 and 2023 Editions of Chinese History Textbooks)

초록

중국과 미국의 패권 경쟁을 둘러싸고 한반도를 둘러싼 동북아 정세가 급변하면서 미중관계와 한반도의 미래의 향방에 대한 관심이 고조된 가운데 중국 역사교과서가 국정화된 이래 어떻게 서술되고 있는 지에 대한 이해는 동아시아 뿐 아니라국제사회의 미래를 전망하기 위해 주목해야 할 대상이 될 것이다.
지난 2022년 10월 중국 공산당 제20차 전국대표대회에서 시진핑 주석이 3연임을 확정하며 '중국식 현대화'의 전면 추진을 강조한 이후, '중국식 현대화'는 중요한 핵심 키워드로 자리매김하고 있다. 신중국 성립 75주년을 맞이하는 올해 신년축사에서도 시진핑 주석은 ‘중국식 현대화’를 강조하였고, 최근 개최한 중국 공산당 제20기 중앙위원회 제3차 전체회의에서도 ‘중국식 현대화’를 추진하기 위한당 중앙의 전략적 계획을 수립했다고 밝혔다이에 본고는 중국 교육부가 2017년에 국정 전환 이후 역사교과서 속의 ‘중국식현대화’ 관련 개념이 어떻게 서술되고 있는지에 대한 동향을 검토하였다. 특히2022년 인쇄본과 2023년 인쇄본 현행 중국 중학교와 고등학교 역사교과서 서술사례 비교를 중심으로 중국 역사교과서 속의 ‘중국식 현대화’ 관련 서술의 변화와한중관계에 대한 함의를 살펴보았다. 그 결과 공통적으로 중국 공산당의 역할과중국 공산당의 장기집권을 강조하는 서술이 부각되고 있으며 중국의 국제영향력의 지속적인 확대를 강조하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.
아울러 지난 2024년 2월 중국 대학의 국정 교과서로 알려진 중화민족공동체개론이 출간되었는데 여기서도 중국 중학교 및 고등학교 역사교과서와 동일하게‘중국식 현대화’를 강조하였는데, 서구 질서의 충격과 도전에 대응하는 과정에서‘중국식 현대화’의 길을 모색해왔다고 평가하였다. 더 나아가 중화민족의 초보적형성을 다루는 부분에는 동북공정식 역사인식이 포함되었다최근 중국 정부가 현재 중국의 역사 교육에서 중고등학교와 대학 사이의 지식체계와 교수 체계가 심각한 단절과 착오를 가지고 있다고 언론을 통해 지적하면서국정화의 범위를 대학까지 확대하고 있는 시점에서 향후 양국 미래세대의역사인식의 간극을 좁히고 한중관계의 발전 방향을 모색하는데 참조가 되길 기대한다.

영어초록

As the geopolitical landscape in Northeast Asia, particularly around the Korean Peninsula, rapidly shifts due to the hegemonic rivalry between the United States and China, interest in the future direction of US-China relations and the Korean Peninsula has intensified. In this context, understanding how Chinese history textbooks have been written since their nationalization is crucial not only for anticipating the future of East Asia but also for forecasting broader global trends.
Since the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in October 2022, where President Xi Jinping secured a third term and emphasized the full-scale implementation of “Chinese-style modernization,” this concept has become a key focus. In his 2024 New Year’s speech, marking the 75th anniversary of the founding of New China, President Xi once again stressed the importance of “Chinese-style modernization.” Furthermore, during the recent Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, he announced that the CPC has formulated a strategic plan to advance this initiative.
Building on this context, this paper examines how concepts related to “Chinese-style modernization” have been presented in Chinese history textbooks since the Ministry of Education nationalized them in 2017. Specifically, the paper compares the 2022 and 2023 editions of current middle and high school history textbooks in China, analyzing changes in the descriptions of “Chinese-style modernization” and their implications for Korea-China relations. The findings reveal that these textbooks consistently highlight the role and long-term governance of the CPC and emphasize the continued expansion of China’s international influence.
In addition, in February 2024, Outline of the Community of the Chinese Nation, known as the national textbook for Chinese universities, was published.
This textbook also emphasizes "Chinese-style modernization," similar to the descriptions found in China’s middle and high school history textbooks. It evaluates that China has pursued the path of "Chinese-style modernization" in response to the shocks and challenges posed by the Western order.
Moreover, the section discussing the early formation of the Chinese nation incorporates the historical perspective of the Northeast Project.
The Chinese government has recently highlighted in the media the serious disconnects and misunderstandings between the knowledge and teaching systems of secondary schools and universities in China's current history education, and is expanding the scope of nationalization to include universities. In this context, it is hoped that this study will serve as a reference for narrowing the gap in historical perceptions between future generations of Korea and China, and for exploring the future direction of Korea-China relations.
