조현병 환우 가족의 미술치료 적용을 위한 현상학적 탐구 (Phenomenological Inquiry into the Lives of Parents of Children with Schizophrenia for the Art Therapy Intervention)

초록

본 연구의 목적은 미술치료를 활용하여 조현병을 앓는 자식과 함께 살아가는 부모의 삶의 본질적 의미를 현상학적 방법으로 접근하고자 하였으며, 나아가 조현병 자식을 둔 부모에게 필요한 미술치료 적용 방안이 무엇인지를 탐색 하고자 하였다. 연구 참여자는 총 3명으로 조현병 자식과 함께 거주하며 주보호자 역할을 담당하는 부모로 선정하 였다. 자료 수집은 미술치료를 접목한 심층 면담 방법으로 현상 자체에 초점을 두고 현상을 있는 그대로 볼 수 있도록 하였다. 자료 수집 기간은 총 4개월 정도 소요되었으며, 일주일에 1회 90분씩, 4∼5회의 심층 면담이 이루어졌다. 본 연구에서는 조현병 자식을 둔 부모들이 공통적으로 단절되고 억압된 감정 상태와 회피 특성을 보여, 일반적인 인터뷰보다는 미술 치료를 접목한 심층 면담을 통해 좀 더 풍성한 자료들을 획득할 수 있었다. 연구 결과에서 조현병 가족의 삶의 의미 9가지를 발견하였고, 이를 토대로 조현병 가족에게 첫째, 예측 불허의 증상에 대한 불안을 다루어야 하며, 둘째, 소통의 단절에서 오는 정서적 피폐함, 셋째, 조현병의 인식 차이로 병의 수용 시점이 다른 점을 적절히 다루어주어야 한다는 3가지 치료적 개입 요소를 도출하였다. 앞서 언급된 조현병 환우 가족의 특성을 고려할 때, 비언어적인 접근이 상담에 대한 거부감을 줄일 수 있고, 미술 작업으로 억압된 부정적 감정을 표출함으로써 심리적 안정감을 획득할 수 있어 미술치료가 유용하다는 점을 확인하였다. 본 연구의 의의는 조현병을 앓는 자식을 둔 부모의 삶의 본질적 의미를 파악하여, 조현병 가족에 대한 이해를 높이는 것에 있다. 이를 토대로 조현병 자식을 둔 가족에게 적절한 미술치료 적용을 하는데 있어 초기 자료로 활용할 수 있다.

영어초록

This study aims to access the lived experiences of parents living with their children with schizophrenia in order to better understand the meanings of parents’ lives using phenomenological method, and to explore what kind of art therapy interventions would be helpful to the parents. For this study, the researchers selected three participants living with their children with schizophrenia as a primary caregiver. The approach of this study is based on phenomenological study focusing on a phenomenon as it is by using in-depth interviews in relation to an art therapy. The data collection period was about four months, and in-depth interviews were conducted once a week for 90 minutes, total of 4 or 5 times to each person. In this study, the parents showed characteristics of a sense of alienation, suppressed feelings, and avoidance in common. Therefore, researchers were able to gather plentiful data using in-depth interview method in relation to art therapy rather than general interview method. As a result, the researchers found 9 meanings of the parents’ lives dealing with schizophrenia, and drew three suggestions for art therapy intervention from the meanings. First, it was suggested that researchers should deal with the parents’ anxiety of unpredictable symptoms. Second, researchers should understand their exhaustion from communication breakdown. Third, researchers also should recognize the parents’ acceptance point of the illness from the difference in perception about schizophrenia. Considering the characteristics of the parents as mentioned above, nonverbal approach in art therapy can reduce resistance to counselling and allow expressing negative emotions during the sessions leading to psychological stability. The significance of this study is to grasp the meaning of lives of parents with their children with schizophrenia and to increase understandings about the parents. In addition, it is to discover an art therapeutic intervention method in relation to the needs of parents dealing with schizophrenia, thereby utilizing it as a basic data in providing an appropriate art therapy service.
