한국 다문화 TV 프로그램에서의 이주민․외국인 재현장르별 차이와 시기별 변화 (Immigrants and Foreigners in Korean Multicultural TV Programs- Differences by Genre and Changes over Time)

초록

본 연구는 국내 텔레비전의 다문화 프로그램을 종합적으로 양적 분석하여 그동안 개별 프로그램 분석에 머물렀던 다문화 프로그램 연구의 범위를 확장하고자 했다. 이를 위해 2003년부터 2016년까지의 다문화 프로그램을 내용분석 해 이주민 및 외국인의 인종과 이주 유형별 재현율, 장르에 따른 집단별 재현 정도의 차이, 그리고 시기별 변화를 분석했다. 실제 인구 대비 프로그램 내 재현 비율인 재현율 분석 결과 백인의 재현율이 유색인보다 높았고, 이주 유형별로는 전문인력 이주노동자와 외국인 유학생의 재현율이 매우 높은 반면 단순기능인력 이주노동자는 매우 낮았다. 장르별 재현 빈도 차이의 경우, 교양 프로그램에서 유색인의 재현 빈도가 백인보다 높은 데 비해 오락 프로그램에서는 인종 간 차이가 없었다. 이주 유형별로는 교양 프로그램에는 결혼이민자와 다문화가족 자녀가, 오락 프로그램에는 전문인력 이주노동자와 외국인 유학생이 상대적으로 많이 재현됐다. 마지막으로 방송 시기에서는 최근으로 올수록 전문인력 이주노동자와 외국인 유학생 재현이 줄고 결혼이민자와 다문화가족 자녀의 재현이 증가하여 이주 유형별 재현 빈도의 변화가 있었으나, 백인이 유색인보다 많이 재현되는 인종별 재현에는 변화가 없었다.

영어초록

Korean multicultural television programs have been usually studied in terms of individual program analysis. This study aims to expand the scope of multicultural program research by analyzing the programs quantitatively and comprehensively. For this purpose, a content analysis of Korean multicultural TV programs from 2003 to 2016 was conducted to investigate the representation ratio of immigrants and foreigners by race and immigration type, the differences in the degree of representation depending on the genres, and the changes over time. The results show that the representation ratio of white people was higher than that of non-white people. Among the immigration types, migrant workers with a professional work background and international students scored high representation ratio and migrant workers with a low-skilled background had very low representation ratio. Regarding genre, non-white people were represented more than white people in educational programs but there was no difference in entertainment programs. By immigration type, married immigrants and children of multicultural families were more highly represented in educational programs, and migrant workers with a professional work background and international students were more highly represented in entertainment programs. Lastly, there were some changes in the frequency of representation by immigration type over time, such as the decrease in the representation of migrant workers with a professional work background and international students and the increase in the representation of married immigrants and children of multicultural families. However, there was no change in the frequency of representation by race and white people continued to be represented more than non-white people. Implications and suggestions were discussed based on the results.
