무의식의 형상화로서의 예술 (Art as a Formulation of the Unconscious)

초록

신화에 나타난 이미지들을 인간 내면의 심리적 에너지의 형상으로 규정한 융의 개념은 에른스트의 사적신화 개념으로 변환되는데, 이것의 핵심은 미술 작품에 나타난 다양한 형상이 단순한 한 예술가의 경험이나 선호 여부에 따라 형상화 되는 것이 아니라 무의식에 내재된 원형의 힘에 의해 신화적 개념을 내포하게 된다는 점이다. 본고는 이러한 신화적 속성을 표현하는 무의식의 매개체로서의 예술가 개념을 융의 원형론에 기초하여 에른스트의 사적신화화 과정의 고찰을 통해 규명하고자 한다.
에른스트의 작품에 반영된 신화적 이미지들은 그의 개인적 경험이나 상상의 결과가 아닌 시공을 초월한 인간 정신의 원천으로 모든 인간에게 부여된 선험적 조건이며, 인류의 근원적 행동유형의 현시이다. 그의 작품에 나타난 숲과 바다를 방황하는 새는 신화 속으로 편입된 자신의 타아이고, 또한 초개인적이며 동시대 사람들의 시대정신의 반영이며, 무의식의 심층에 존재하는 원초적 상인 것이다.
에른스트의 작품에 함축된 신화성에는 예술가가 무의식에 내재된 창조적 충동에 의해 통제 받는 매개체라는 의미를 내포하고 있으며, 원형에 기초한 이 충동의 형상적 실현이 무의식의 매개체인 예술가에 의해 작품에서 상징으로 나타나게 되는 것이다.
이처럼 원형의 자율적인 힘에 의해 형상화 되는 미술 작품이라는 개념은 예술이 한 개인의 의식적 행위라기보다는 예술가 내면의 심층에서 존재하는 원형의 막대한 영향에 의한 결과이고, 이것을 본고에서 융의 이론을 기반으로 에른스트의 작품에 내재된 신화성의 고찰을 통해 예술 작품이 단순한 예술가의 개인적인 조형 활동이 아닌 인류의 근원과 연결된 원형의 형상화로 정의할 것이다.

영어초록

Jung's concept that defines images in myths as the configurations of psychological energy inside human beings is converted to Ernst's concept of private myth whose essential point is that various images in works of art are not simply shaped by the experiences or preference of an artist but come to involve mythic concepts by the forces of the archetype inherent in the unconscious. This article would be an attempt to delineate the conception of being an artist considered as a medium of the unconscious in externalizing mythical properties on the basis of Jung's archetype and with an investigation of the process of private mythicization.
Mythical Images reflected on the works of Ernst's art are a priori condition given to all humans not as a result of his personal experience or imagination but an origin of human spirit that transcends time and space, and the revelation of the original type of actions of the human beings. In one of Ernst's works, a bird flying solitarily over the woods and the sea is the other of the self incorporated into the collective myth as supra-individual, a reflection of the spirit of the contemporary times, and a underlying image that exists in the depth of the unconscious.
The mythic properties overtoned in Ernst's works imply that an artist is a medium controlled by the creative instinct inherent in the unconscious, and that, based on the archetype, a figurative realization of this instinct appears as symbols through the works of the artist, the medium of the unconscious.
Likewise, the conception of an art of work as formulated by the autonomy of the archetype indicates that art is not an individual's conscious behavior but rather a result of the gigantic influence of the unconscious existing in the depth of the unconscious. In this article, I would define a work of art not as one of individually moulding activities of an artist but rather a formulation of the archetype closely related to the origin of humankind through an investigation into mythical properties inherent in the works of art of Ernst on the basis of Jung's archetypal theories.
