학령기 지적장애 아동의 모음 음향학적 변수와 말 명료도 및 말 용인도 간의 상관관계 (The Correlations Between Vowel Acoustic Variables and Speech Intelligibility and Acceptability in School-Aged Children With Intellectual Disabilities)

초록

목적: 본 연구에서는 학령기 지적장애 아동의 단모음을 음향음성학적 방법으로 포먼트를 산출하여 포먼트 주파수 F1, F2값으로 집단 간 모음공간 면적과 모음공간 변수를 비교하였다. 학령기 지적장애 아동 집단의 모음공간 변수와 청지각적 평가에 의한 말 명료도 및 말 용인도와의 상관관계를 분석하여 음향학적 특성이 전반적인 말 명료도와 말 용인도에 미치는 영향에 대해 알아보고자 하였다.
방법: 초등학교 1~4학년 경도 지적장애 아동 15명과 생활연령 동일 일반 아동 15명을 대상으로 모음 발성 과제를 이용하여 포먼트 주파수를 분석하고 모음공간 변수를 비교하였다. 또한 지적장애 아동의 모음공간 변수와 말 명료도 및 말 용인도 간 상관관계를 살펴보았다.
결과: 그 결과 첫째, 지적장애 아동 집단과 일반 아동 집단이 산출한 한국어 5개 단모음 포먼트 주파수 F1, F2값을 비교한 결과, F1 /ㅏ/, F2 /ㅏ/, F1 /ㅜ/, F2 /ㅜ/, F1 /ㅔ/ 평균값에서 집단 간 유의한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 지적장애 아동의 모음공간 면적은 일반 아동에 비해 유의미하게 작은 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 모음공간 변수와 말 명료도 및 말 용인도와의 상관관계를 살펴보기 위하여 적률상관관계 분석을 실시한 결과 모든 모음공간 변수와 말 명료도와 말 용인도 간 유의미한 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 말 명료도와 말 용인도에서 가장 상관관계가 높은 변수는 모음 오각도로 나타났으며, 모음공간 변수들을 통해 말 명료도와 말 용인도가 예측하다는 것을 확인하였다.
결론: 본 연구에서는 지적장애 아동의 모음 오류양상을 객관적으로 분석하여 일반 아동과 구별되는 지적장애 아동의 모음 산출 특성을 살펴볼 수 있었으며, 말 명료도 및 말 용인도와 연관성이 높은 음향학적 기초 자료로 활용하고자 한다.

영어초록

Purpose: This study calculates the formants of single vowels in school-aged children with intellectual disabilities in an acoustic way and compares them with normal children with vowel space areas and variables according to formant frequency F1 and F2 values. It also analyzes the correlations between vowel acoustic variables and speech intelligibility and acceptability based on auditory-perceptual evaluations in school-aged children with intellectual disabilities and the effects of the acoustic characteristics of vowels on their overall speech intelligibility and acceptability.
Methods: Fifteen children with mild intellectual disabilities who corresponded with 1~4 grade levels in elementary school and 15 normal children with the same chronological age in vowel production tests to analyze their formant frequency and compare vowel acoustic variables. The study also examined the correlations between vowel acoustic variables and speech intelligibility and acceptability of children with intellectual disabilities.
Results: First, the study compared the formant frequency F1 and F2 values of five monophthongs in Korean produced by the group of children with intellectual disabilities and those of normal children. There was a significant difference in F1 /a/, F2 /a/, F1 /u/, F2 /u/, and F1 /e/. Secondly, children with intellectual disabilities had a significantly smaller vowel space than normal children. Finally, correlation analysis was conducted to examine the correlation between vowel acoustic variables and speech intelligibility and acceptability. The results showed significant correlations between all of the vowel acoustic variables and speech intelligibility and acceptability.
Conclusions: The findings of the study may serve as basic data to make treatment plans and assess the effects of treatment based on vowel articulation interventions for speech sound disorders in children with intellectual disabilities.
