홀리스틱 교육과 현상학적 연구 방법론 (Holistic Education and Phenomenological Research Methodology)

초록

이 논문은 현상학적 연구방법론의 홀리스틱 교육 분야에 대한 적용 가능성을 탐색하기 위한 목적으로 기술되었다. 홀리스틱 교육은 지덕체성을 추구하는 일종의 통합적·대안적 교육론으로서의 특징을 지닌다. 홀리스틱 교육은 방법론적 차원에서 학습자의 의미 있는 경험을 통해 질적 성장을 의도하고 있다. 홀리스틱 교육에서 교사는 학습자의 질적 성장을 유도해야 하고, 또한 이러한 학습자의 가능성을 알아차림(awareness)할 수 있는 능력이 필요하다. 이러한 점에서 홀리스틱 교사는 현상학에서 말하는 ‘상호 주관적 이해(intersubjective understanding)’의 능력이 필요하다. 간주관적 이해는 교사의 내적 투여를 통해서, 학습자의 존재성을 파악하고자 하는 방식이다. 간주관적 이해는 학습자의 전인격적 존재성을 알고자 하는 방식이다. 이해와 존재는 긴밀한 관련성을 내재한다. 홀리스틱 교육에서 강조하는 질적 성장 혹은 초월의 과정으로서 변용(transformation)은 현상학에서 말하는 간주관적 이해에 기반을 두고 있다. 이러한 점에서 이해와 존재의 초월(이해-존재-초월)은 긴밀한 연계개념으로서 홀리스틱 분야의 주요한 교육적 주제인 동시에 현상학의 탐구대상이라고 볼 수 있다. 이러한 관점에서 이 논문에서는 홀리스틱 교육과 현상학적 연구방법론을 연계하여 내적 관련성을 논의하고, 현상학적 연구방법론이 홀리스틱 교육 분야에 기여할 수 있는 가능성을 모색하고자 한다.

영어초록

The purpose of this paper is to study about the application of the phenomenological approach to the fields of holistic education. The phenomenological approach is different from any other researches in the fields of education. The phenomenological approach has a type of qualitative research methods which will describe a subject's experience. The phenomenological approach which pursues to understand a subject’s inner world reflect on the perspectives of holistic education in many cases. The perspective of holistic education based on the holism that are willing to grasp intermingled connection as a whole. From this view the holistic educators aim to educate whole person fully educating not only his minds and body but his spirituality. In the holistic education teacher educate learner to be a whole person who became a harmonized growth and so teacher as a holistic researchers need to the ability to understand to the learner's inner world and to help drawing out his potentiality. The phenomenological approach has three kinds of research dimension. The first dimension is to understand to the others’s experience and the second is to study the essence of the Being, and the third is to investigate to transcendence, in other words transformation, connectedness etc. In this paper the reason why the main issues of the holistic education might be researched by the phenomenological approach, understanding others experience, studying the essence of the Being, investigating transcendence can be explained by the phenomenological approach. In last chapter I searched to applicate phenomenological views in the context of teaching and learning in holistic education. The intention of this search is to use phenomenological view as a practical method which can be well connected theory and practice. From this search I’d like to suggest that the phenomenological approach give new applicable method in the practice(for exam. in the context of teaching-learning situation) as well as the research field.
