The Influence of Satisfaction with Field Experience on Career Preparation Behavior of College Students Majoring in Tourism Management: in Terms of Moderating Effect of Self-efficacy

The study aims to verify effect of controlling self-efficacy as well as impact of satisfaction of tourism-majored college students with field practice on their act of developing career.
To this end, the study involved a total of 248 fresh and junior students enrolled in five colleges located in Gyeonggi Province and completing field practice, all of whom answered self-reporting questionnaire. The collected data were under analysis involving SPSS 18.0 statistical program. Questions regarding population statistical sampling general characteristics of field practice were under frequency and technical analysis. We performed factor analysis and reliability analysis. To verify hypothesis relationship between satisfaction with field experience and measure factors such as act of developing career and identify effect of controlling self-efficacy. The result is described as follows: first, it turned out that for satisfaction with field experience, such factor as field experience has the sole impact on career preparation behavior. Second, it turned out that self-efficacy has controlling effect on content of field practice, efficacy of field practice, satisfaction with field practice environment and act of developing career. Based on this result, we present suggestions. To generate efficient field experience for higher satisfaction, it is most important to give students accurate awareness of field practice programs and let them know that such experience is the opportunity to acquire new knowledge. To let the students be aware of the importance of such course before they take field experience in selecting occupation and taking career path, it is also important to introduce career counseling and get them to investigate businesses. In addition, it is necessary to develop programs designed to increase self-efficacy.
The study holds significance in that it is one of few studies to substantiate relationship between satisfaction of tourism-majored college students with field experience and their act of developing career as well as current status of field practice.
