다문화 가정 중등 학습자 대상의 한국어 교재 개발 방향 (A Study on Developing Korean Language Textbooks for Secondary Learners of Multi-Cultural Families)

초록

이 연구는 최근 다문화 가정 자녀들의 중등 학교 진학 비율이 높아지는 상황에서 다문화 가정의 자녀에 대한 정책적 관심과 지원을 중등 학습자로 확장해야 한다는 관점을 바탕으로 한다. 다문화 가정의 중등 자녀들의 의사소통 문제는 한국어와 한국문화에 대한 이해 부족과 밀접하게 관련을 맺으며 학습 지체는 물론 학교 부적응이나 학교 중도 탈락 문제로 악화된다. 따라서 학업 성취 능력과 학교 생활 및 한국 사회 적응을 돕기 위해서라도 다문화 가정의 중등 학습자들을 위한 한국어 교육 정책과 지원이 다각적으로 구안되어야 한다. 이를테면 중등 학습자에게 적합한 한국어 교육의 목표와 원리를 모색하여 한국어 교육과정을 개발(개정)하고, 그에 따른 교재와 교수학습 방법 및 평가 방안을 구안하는 등 중등 교육 수준의 한국어 교육 체제를 지속적으로 보완할 필요가 있다. 특히 중등 학습자를 위한 한국어 교재는 다문화 가정 어머니나 초등 자녀를 위한 교재와는 달리 기초 한국어 능력과 함께 다른 교과 학습을 위한 도구적 언어 능력을 보다 강화하는 한편 다양한 문화적 가치를 경험할 수 있는 내용으로 편성해야 한다. 다문화 문식성 신장이라는 교육의 목표와 내용, 방법, 평가가 체계적으로 구조화된 교재의 개발은 다문화 학습자들의 한국어 소통 능력 향상과 원활한 학업 성취 및 학교 적응을 통해 탈학교 현상을 줄일 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 한국 사회의 주체적인 구성원으로서 살아가는 데 도움을 줄 것이다.

영어초록

The main focus of research thesis starts from the viewpoint that as a growing number of children of multi-cultural families attend secondary schools in recent years, the targets of policy concerns and supports for these children must be expanded to secondary education learners. Problems that secondary learners and children of multi-cultural families have due to a poor communication skill have something close to do with a lack of power to understand Korean culture. The things bring about worse consequences to lead those students to become slow learners; to make them have difficulties in becoming adapted to their school life; in the end, to force them to drop out of schools.
Therefore, it makes sense to provide comprehensive policies and supports of Korean language education for secondary learners and children of multi-cultural families, and to help those students become adapted to their school life and Korean society. Specifically, it is needed to steadily improve Korean language education systems at a secondary education level by finding out objectives and principles of Korean language education suitable for secondary learners, and developing(revising) Korean language curriculum, and seeking ways to provide pertained textbooks, teaching methods and evaluations. In particular, Korean language textbooks for secondary learners must be published with the focus on strengthening competence of basic Korean language and instrumental languages necessary for any other educational lessons, and accessing multi-cultural values. If textbooks are developed that have systemic structures of objectives, contents, methods and evaluations of education aiming to enhance literacy competence of learners born and raised in multi-cultural families, most leaners of multi-cultural families would be improved in their ability to communicate in Korean, and fulfill better school performance, and become well-adapted to their school life. It is expected that these developments would contribute not only to minimizing the frequency that those students of multi-cultural families drop out of their schools, but to making them become each independent social member.
