청소년 적응 중재를 위한 뇌기반 상담의 탐색적 고찰 (An exploratory study on brain-based counseling for adolescents’ adjustment intervention)

초록

뇌의 신경학적 기전에 대한 축적된 연구성과 덕분에 인간의 인지, 정서 및 행동 발달에 대한 새로운 관점과 설명 모형이 정립되었으며, 인간 행동에 관련된 다양한 문제에 대해 보다 과학적이고 증거기반적인 접근이 가능해졌다. 심리상담과 정신건강 분야에서도 인간 발달에 대한 기존 심리학적 개념을 신경과학적 용어로 설명하고 적응 및 부적응 문제에 대한 뇌기반적 중재 전략들이 소개되고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 청소년 상담을 위한 신경과학적 접근을 탐색적으로 살펴보고자 한다. 국내외 뇌기반 접근의 최근 동향은 정신건강 분야의 뇌기반 연구를 위한 정책적ㆍ제도적 지원, 상담 분야에서의 세부영역별 학술적 논의 전개, 상담자양성과정에서의 신경과학적 지식과 기술 습득에 대한 강조 등으로 나타난다. 청소년의 정서조절, 감각추구, 중독 등에 관련된 행동의 기저에 놓인 신경학적 기전을 밝히는 연구결과들이 소개되면서 청소년기 부적응 행동에 대한 이해와 중재 전략을 모색하기 위한 이론적 근거를 제공하고 있다. 자기조절 능력과 전인적 건강에 초점을 두는 뇌기반 상담은 치료적 생활변화와 적응유연성 증진을 위한 신경과학적 전략을 제시하며, 청소년을 위한 외상경험 치료, 집단상담, 진로상담 등의 중재 장면에도 적용될 수 있는 가능성을 시사한다. 인간 행동의 작동 기전에 대한 신경과학적 설명은 상담의 이론 체계와 임상적 접근 방식을 변화시킬 것으로 예상되며, 심리상담의 전통적 접근의 장점을 유지하면서 신경과학적 접근의 장점과 유용성을 접목시킬 수 있는 통합적인 접근이 모색되어야 할 것이다.

영어초록

Advances in neuroscience over the past decade have increased our understanding of the neural mechanisms involved in cognition, emotion and behavior. Newly introduced are neuroscientific perspective and explanatory models on human development, and it is available to utilize more empirically validated approach to human behavioral problem. Psychological development described by traditional concepts is now explained in neuroscientific terms, and some mental health professionals are incorporating brain-based intervention for adaptation and maladjustment issues. Counselors working with adolescents need to be familiar recent literature to be more effective in their work so that they can provide developmentally appropriate counseling services. So, this article aims to review and explore neuroscientific approach related the integration for adolescent counseling. The current trends in brain-based approach in mental health field are the political and institutional support for neuroscientific studies, the academic publication and discussion on detail subject area, and the emphasis on the neuroscientific knowledge and skills in counselor training courses. Researches have proved emotion regulation, sensation seeking tendency, and addiction were related with neurological structure and function, providing the understanding of adolescent maladjustment and the rationale for effective intervention strategies. Brain-based approach focused on the self-regulation and well-being of clients suggests the neuroscientific strategies for therapeutic life change and resilience enhancement. It also implies the possibilities of applying neuroscientific strategies to the treatment of traumatic experience, group counseling, and career counseling of adolescents. It is expected that neuroscientific explanation will change the theory structure and clinical approach in counseling, and it now requires an integrated approach connecting the merits of traditional counseling and the usability of brain-based counseling.
