한국 텔레비전 정치광고의 서사구조 분석: 2002년 대선과 2004년 총선의 예를 중심으로 (The Narrative Structures of Television Political Ads)

초록

이 연구의 목적은 한국의 2002년 16대 대통령선거와 2004년 총선기간동안 텔레비전을 통해 방영된 각 정당의 텔레비전 정치광고를 대상으로 이들 정치광고들이 당과 후보자를 선전하기 위해 구체적으로 어떠한 서사구조와 영상 및 언어기호학적 요소를 사용했는지를 밝히는 데 있다. 특히 공적 인물인 정치인이 개인적인 친밀감을 높이고 시청자의 감정이입을 유도하기 위해 어떠한 서사전략과 기제를 사용하는지를 살펴보려 하였다. 열린 우리당의 ‘탄핵’, ‘민생’, ‘눈물(민주당)’과 한나라당의 ‘위험 대 안전’, ‘국민은 우리의 어머니입니다.’, ‘여성과 교육’ 등 총 6편의 광고를 대상으로 서사구조 연구가들의 스토리․담화 분석을 통해 정치광고 서사구조의 특징을 밝혀내고 이름 짓고자 하였는데 결과적으로 레비 스트로스(Levi-Strauss)의 이항대립 구도를 닮은 편 가르기 전략, 시점 샷을 사용한 개인화 전략, 관조적 카메라를 사용한 친밀감 조성이라는 세 가지 특징을 도출하였다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to analyse the narrative structures of Korean Television Political ads. 3 ads from 2002 presidential election, and another 3 ads from 2004 national election are chosen for this study. The binary oppositions of Levi-Strauss are used to suggest the basic narrative structure of political ads, and Roland Barthes's myth-making theory by developing the artificial relationship between certain signifer and signified to explain how certain image connotes certain meaning.
These contradictions of two parties(Uri:Hannara)are expressed best in terms of binary oppositions in 'Impeachment' by Uri party, and "Risk VS Safety' by Hannara party. 'Impeachment' transfers several images of struggling members of Uri party into black and white, and leaves the members of Hannara side color including the smiling face of Park Kunhae. The choice of words of narration and caption and editing use to stress the contradictions of two sides. Hannara's choice is making up the story of two opposite bus drivers and show the different endings of two buses.
Second, the use of point- of - view shots to build personal relationships between viewers and ads. Three ads including 'Impeachment' of Uri Party adopt several point of view shots encouraging the personal engagement into ads. The cross editing with the struggling members and citizens transits the public action into personal happenings and evokes the emotional agreement. Hannara's ads usually use the objective camera angles so it's hard to engage emotionally as Viewers.
Last, Uri Party uses the strategy of observing camera by minimizing the camera movement and use of the narration, and adopting lots of real images in the real places. By making the viewers to believe that there is no camera between viewers and ads, the viewers assume that they can judge the images by their own without any disruption from image makers. Contrary to Uri, Hannara uses artificial settings, lighting, and actors so the viewers can recognize the distance between ads and viewers.
