초록

For Calvin, the authority of Augustine who is one of the representatives of the Western theology is so immense. In many respects Calvin follows the theological line of Augustine. Calvin, however, rejects Augustine's doctrine of the Trinity, i.e., a psychological trinitarianism. Rather he opts for the Eastern model of the Trinity which is the predecessor of the modern social trinitarianism.
The social trinitarianism is the popular alternative to the Western model of the Trinity. It traces back to Cappadocian Fathers via Calvin. Uzzimura Ganzo indicates Jonathan Edwards as an advocator for the trinitarianism. Irrespective of their tradition like Calvin and Edwards, many contemporary theologians including J. Moltmann and W. Pannenberg take the social trinitarianism as theirs. But the social trinitarianism still has a weakness to defend the unity of three persons in the Godhead in spite of its strength to unfold the salvific aspect of the Trinity. So we still need the Western model which begins the Trinity with the unity.
The trinitarian understanding of Korean church mainly focuses the Western model of the Trinity. Nowadays, however, there are so much concern on the salvific aspect or practical characteristic of the doctrine. This phenomenon rightly reflects the Calvin's doctrine of the Trinity.
The fact that Calvin takes as his doctrine of the Trinity not the Western model but the Eastern has some applications to Korean church. First of all, the most important authority for us Christians is the Bible. It is not a tradition. In this point, however, we are so careful not to discard the tradition itself. It is not a Reformed perspective to neglect the church traditions including Reformed tradition as a whole but Anabaptist. In Korean church there should be more attention on church traditions as well as on Calvin and Reformed tradition.
