북한산 이계구곡(耳溪九曲)의 위치비정과 집경(集景) 특성 (Studies on the Assumption of the Locations and Formational Characteristics in Yigye-gugok, Mt. Bukhansan)

초록

본 연구는 이계 홍양호가 설정하고 그의 손자 관암 홍경모가 경영한 이계구곡의 향유거점을 문헌 및 현지조사를 통해 실증적으로추적하는 한편, 구곡의 형식 및 집경방식에 나타난 특징을 검토하는 것이다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다.
1. 우이동은 조선시대에 도성의 영역에 속한 땅이자 지금도 행적구역상 서울특별시에 위치해 있는 곳이다. 따라서 이계구곡은예나 지금에나 수도에 있는 유일한 구곡이었다는 특별한 의미로 받아들여진다. 이계구곡은 우이천 상류의 만경폭을 제1곡으로 시작하여계곡을 따라 제2곡 적취병, 제3곡 찬운봉, 제4곡 진의강, 제5곡 옥경대, 제6곡 월영담, 제7곡 탁영암, 제8곡 명옥탄, 제9곡 재간정으로구성된다. 이중에서 만경폭, 찬운봉, 옥경대는 그 위치를 확정할 수 있을 정도로 특징적인 경물상이 명확히 드러나 있었으며, 진의강, 월영담, 명옥탄, 재간정 터는 구곡기의 묘사와 현지의 지표상황을 통해 유력한 추정지를 찾을 수 있었다. 그러나 적취병, 탁영암의경우 비근한 영역 내에 기문의 내용과 유사한 복수의 지점들이 나타났는데, 지형ㆍ경관ㆍ경물의 현황을 종합적으로 고려하여 제1의추정지를 판단하였다. 이로서 1곡에서 9곡까지 총거리 2.1km의 선적 경로와 구조를 파악할 수 있었으며, 이러한 점은 구곡이 5리(약1.96km)에 지나지 않는다는 관암의 설명과도 근사하다.
2. 18세기 말에 설정된 이계구곡은 홍양호가 우이동을 풍산 홍씨의 소유로 귀속시킨 뒤 선영의 묘소가 있는 터전을 가문의 공간으로만드는 일련의 작업에서 비롯되었다. 이계구곡은 구곡이 상류에서부터 하류방향으로 전개된다는 점과, 거점지가 8곡에 위치하는등 구곡의 일반적인 형식과 적지 않은 차이점을 나타내고 있었다. 이는 가문의 영역을 우이동 초입에 위치한 타 가문의 세력권과분리시켜 우이동을 점유하려는 원심적 구성으로 해석되지만, 한편으로 우이동을 대표하는 경물인 미륵폭포[만경폭]부터 계곡의 주요승경에 곡의 순서를 매기고 8곡에 위치한 자신의 거처를 사실상 구곡의 지향점으로 삼는 구심적 공간 만들기의 결과로도 판단된다.
3. 이계구곡에는 여타의 구곡에 비해 설정자와 경영자가 남긴 기문과 시문이 다량 제작된 반면, 구곡도, 각자 등 동반되는 시각적매체가 전무하다. 그러나 관암의 문집에 수록된 「이계구곡대자첩(耳溪九曲大字帖)ㆍ발미(跋尾)」에는 각자를 새기려고 했던 시도가있었음이 나타나 있다. 본 연구는 송시열 글씨로 알려진 국립중앙박물관 소장 미공개 필첩이 홍양호의 구곡명 유묵을 성첩한 「이계구곡대자첩」이었음을 확인할 수 있었다.

영어초록

The purpose of this research is to empirically trace the junctures of Yigye-gugok managed by Gwan-am Hong Gyeong-mo, a grandson of Yigye Hong Yang-ho who originally designed Yigye-gugok, while reviewing the features of the forms and patterns of gugok. The results of the research are as follows.
1. Ui-dong was part of the domain of the capital during the Chosun dynasty, which also is located in the city of Seoul as a matter of administrative zone. Likewisely, Yigye-gugok is taken as a special meaning for it was one and only gugok.
Starting with Mangyeong Waterfall as the 1st gok, Yigye follows through the 2nd gok of Jeokchwibyeong Rock, the 3rd gok of Chanunbong Peak, the 4th gok of Jinuigang Rock, the 5th gok of Okkyeongdae Rock, the 6th gok of Wolyeongdam Pond, the 7th gok of Tagyeongam Rock, the 8th gok of Myeongoktan Stream, and the 9th gok of Jaeganjeong Pavilion. Of these, Mangyeong Waterfall, Chanunbong Peak, and Okkyeongdae Rock are distinct for their locations in as much as their features, while estimated locations for Jinuigang Rock, Wolyeongdam Pond, Myeongoktan Stream, and Jaeganjeong Pavilion were discovered.
However, Jeokchwibyeong Rock and Tagyeongam Rock demonstrated multiple locations in close resemblance to documentary literatures within secretive proximity, whereas geography, scenery, and sighted objects were considered to evaluate the 1st estimated location. Through these endeavored, it was possible to identify the shipping routes and structures for the total distance of 2.1km running from the 1st gok to the 9th gok, which nears Gwanam’s description of 5ri(里), or approximately 1.96km for gugok.
2. Set towards the end of the 18th century, Yigye-gugok originated from a series of work shaping the space of Hong Yang-ho’s tomb into a space for the family. Comparing Yigye-gugok to other gugoks, numerous differences are apparent from beyond the rather more general format such as adjoining the 8th gok while paving through the lower directions from the upper directions of the water. This gives rises to the interpretation such that Yigye-gugok was positioned to separate the doman of the family from those of the other families in power, thereby taking over Ui-dong. Yet, the aspect of the possession of the space lends itself to the determination that the location positioned at the 8th gok above Mangyeongpok Waterfall representing Wooyi-dong was a consequence of the centrifugal space creation efforts.
3. While writings and poetic works were manufactured in such large quantities in Yigye-gugok whose products of setters and managers seemed intended towards gugok-do and letters carved on the rocks among others, there is yet a tremendous lack of visual media in the same respect. ‘Yigye-gugok Daejacheop’ Specimens of Handwriting offers the traces of Gwanam’s attempts to engrave gakja at the food of Yigye-gugok. This research was able to ascertain that ‘Yigye-gugok Daejacheop’ Specimens of Handwriting was a product of Hong Yang-ho’s collections maintained under the auspices of the National Central Museum, which are renowned for Song Shi-yeol’s penmanship.
