떼노츠띠뜰란 내부 구조와 왕위 선출 간의 관계 (The Relationship between the Internal Structure of Tenochtitlan and the Selection of the Successor to the Throne)

초록

본 연구의 목적은 메쉬까가 뜰라또아니 체제를 도입하게 된 배경과 떼노츠띠뜰란의 내부 구조를 분석하는데 있다. 그리고 이를 바탕으로 시기 별로 왕위 선출방식과 계승체계를 규명한다. 떼노츠띠뜰란의 뜰라또아니 체제는 왕을 중심으로 구성된 중앙조직과, 다양한 집단으로 구성된 4개 지역 깔뿔리로 이원화되어 있었다. 그리고 왕의 모계 혈통을 비롯해 왕비의 혈통에 따라 중앙조직의 권력 집단이 변화했고, 중앙조직과 4개 지역 깔뿔리 간의 관계 또한 바뀌었다. 1-3대 왕 시기에는 이주 과정에 형성된 집단지도체제적 특성이 강해 왕의 선출과 국정운영이 이원 체제 간의 합의에 따라 결정되었고, 왕위 계승은 전통적인 부자계승을 유지했다.
4-5대 왕은 아스까뽀쌀꼬 연합체와의 전쟁을 승리로 이끈 이쓰꼬아뜰과 목떼수마 일루이까미나가 차례대로 왕위에 올랐고, 또 다른 전쟁 영웅, 뜰라까엘렐은 씨우아꼬아뜰 직위를 차지했다. 그리고 이쓰꼬아뜰 왕 시기에 왕실위원회가 만들어져 왕이 될 수 있는 혈통과 자격을 제한했다. 6-11대 왕들은 3인(이쓰꼬아뜰, 목떼수마 일루이까미나, 뜰라까엘렐)이 맺은 밀약에 따라이쓰꼬아뜰 왕의 아들과, 목떼수마 일루이까미나 왕의 딸 사이에 태어난 후손들에서만 형제 계승방식에 따라 왕들이 선출되었다. 반면에, 4개 지역 깔뿔리들의 정치 영향력은 4-5대 왕 시기부터 약화되기 시작해, 이후에는 왕권 경쟁을 비롯해 왕위 선출과정에서 소외되며 전통적인 집단지도체제적 특성을 상당 부분 상실했다.

영어초록

When México-Tenochtitlan was built in 1325 and Acamapitztli was enthroned, mexica broke from collective leadership and adopted the tlatoani regime. Afterwards, a total of eleven kings ruled Tenochtitlan until it fell to the spanish conquerors in 1521. Tenochtitlan, which was a citystate mainly made up of a group of people that moved from the northern region, had its succession to the throne including its selection of a royal successor developed in a distinctive manner, when compared to the other members of the Triple Alliance (Texcoco and Tlacopan). The purpose of the study is to analyze the background of the adoption of the tlatoani regime and the internal structure of Tenochtitlan and thereby discover and establish the royal successor selection method and the succession system. After the first king was created from the mexica-culhua line, the early migrant group grew dominant by the queen’s lineage or the new mexicatepaneca group dominated the central organization. However, remaining under the influence of the calpulli of the four regions, the kings including the fourth monarch(Itzcóatl) could not appoint his successor, who was selected through agreement of the central organization and the calpulli of the four regions. After the victorious war with Azcapotzalco, Moctezuma Iluicamina, who with King Itzcóatl led the war to their victory, was selected as the 5th king. From this period, the centralization strengthened whereas the political influence of the calpulli of the four regions began to dwindle. The kings from the sixth Axayacatl to the 11th Cuauhtémoc were selected according to the regulations of the royal committee, which were created during the reign of King Itzcóatl. However, as the regulations were based on the secret pact among the three persons (Itzcóatl, Moctezuma Iluicamina, and Tlacaelel) who led the victorious war, only those offspring of the son of King Itzcóatl and the daughter of Moctezuma Iluicamina, and their descendents became eligible for the throne.
